Carnival Freedom 6 Day Review with Pictures 01/22/2012

Your review has been wonderful so far. It's so nice of you to take the time to do this. I will be going on my first cruise next month (on the Freedom), and I'm getting a little nervous about how easy it will be to find a deck chair to relax on during the day.

Can you offer any advice on this from your experience? I don't need to be near a pool or the buffet or in one of those snazzy-looking clam shells. I'm happy to sit anywhere...in the middle of nowhere, but I'm beginning to wonder if there will be a place to lounge at all by the time I get up on deck around 8:30 or 9:00. Any recommendations you can give on locations to try on the Freedom would be greatly appreciated.

I came back to the room and my DH was ready for breakfast, so we headed to the dining room. Breakfast is held every morning in the Posh dining room.

I ordered pancakes with blueberries, bacon, and hash browns.

DH ordered an omelette and hash browns.

We're not really lay out on deck people, so take my advice with a grain of salt. But I noticed on sea days that there were plenty of available chairs throughout the ship. The pool and serenity areas were packed, but there were plenty of chairs throughout deck 10.

We got off in Key West around 9:30am. Our plans for the day were to walk down Duval Street, head over to the Southernmost Point, and then back up Whitehead Street. This was our first time going to Key West, so we just wanted to see the touristy areas.

These were all taken at a museum in the port area.

I had seen a gorgeous banyan tree in a review on here before we left and I knew I wanted to find the tree. When you are at the museum, walk towards the road. Cross the road and then turn right and it will take you right to the tree. It was huge!

After we found the tree, we went on the search for Duval Street. If you have never been to Key West before, I highly recommend you have a map. It took us a little while to figure out where we were going.

These pictures were all taken while walking down Duval Street.

After we were done at the beach, we backed track up Duval about a block and took a left on South Street. You walk a couple more blocks at end up at the Southernmost Point. There was a line of about 20 people that were waiting to take pictures. A lot of people kept just walking up a taking pictures, completely ignoring the line. It made the line take a lot longer than it should have.

The people that were in line behind us didn't speak English, so we didn't have anyone who could take a picture of the two of us together.

We started walking back to the pier on Whitehead Street.

Across from the Hemingway House, we came across the cutest kitty. Not sure whether he escaped from there or whether he was someone's pet.

It really does look like it escaped....look at the 6 toes on its left front paw. Poor baby. I hope it finds it's way home :-(

That is probably one of the cats that inhabitat the area, that are decendants of Ernest Hemingways cats. They all have that extra toe thing.

Loving the review so far! We've been on the Freedom once, going again on the 8 day eastern in June, then going on her AGAIN next January on the cruise you were just on! We actually saw her as we were flying out of KW on the day you arrived, I believe - January 23rd? We were there for a long weekend. Love that place!
