Where have these people been for the last two years?

Just waiting to complain before the tow. And now want to know what will happen. Oh brother

Has she come up any more this morning? I am trying to keep an eye open but I am so far behind in my laundry. UGH

At the news conference it was mentioned that the earliest to expect the tow would be Tuesday.

No surprise in that as we know there has been a 10 hour delay at one point and probably some other smaller delays. Just looking at today the ship hasn't really come up very much since earlier in the day.

Found this article and I think it probably provides a fairly accurate account of what to expect.

I noticed that sponson S4 is now sitting lower. It is being lowered as I type this.

Yes, there has been a boat working that area all day. Now another boat has just come in too. It seems to have been checking the forward sponsons.

Plus there was work going on port side.

From the looks of things the raising has been delayed. It's pretty much remained in the same position as it was much earlier today. A tweet posted about 4 hrs ago on TPP site said that there are still 2 meters until bow is up.

Chains and cables weighing 30 million tonnes? Can this be true?

David.

That's something I've been trying to check out. Been hoping to find an article that breaks it down into pounds.

This may help:

http://www.wisegeek.org/what-is-a-metric-ton.htm

Or do we have any math geniuses on here? Not my strong point and I can't reach my math teacher daughter-in-law.

My DIL just called me back. She did some calculating and the answer just seems way to high. I would say that's a typo.

It's dark but workers were just shining a light over the bow. It is becoming visible.

Yes, the bow is coming up. I suspect there will be at least another deck above water by tomorrow morning.

Pretty sure the bow is emerging. The rail seems to be visible here which puts deck 4 just a few feet to go.

30 million tons (I am assuming metric) is an impossible figure in this project. That would be 30,000,000,000 kilograms or 66,120,000,000 pounds. 66.1 billion pounds. Someone meesed up the units in that article.

This article says this:

The biggest Italian passenger ship ever built, it was two and a half times as heavy as the Titanic.

That is probably true by the time Costa Concordia was built. That didn't last too long because in 2008 Fincantieri built the first of the three Dream Class ships for Carnival (Carnival Dream) followed by Carnival Magic in 2011 and Carnival Breeze in 2012. They are 306 m long. Costa Diadema due to be launched soon is also based on the Dream Class and will be the same size. Carnival said at the time that the Dream was the largest ship built in Italy. Don't know if this still holds true.

Luis, thanks for adding the pix. That will be nice for Clive when he checks in.

Yes, the article said metric. My daughter-in-law came up with your answers which was why I said it couldn't be right.

What is strange is when I entered the question on google, using what was in the article (30 million) to calculate it into pounds it came back with 66,120 lbs. I do wonder if it should have just been 30 metric tons?

CG, yes, now that it's light in Giglio we can really see the bow instead of just the shadow of it.

Still looking for a better idea of the weight of the chains and cables but no luck.

However I did find another article that I'll link here because it shows a picture of how the Bridge looks now. The pix was released by the courts. Most everything else in there we have seen.

A fairly large Italian patrol vessel called CP941 U.DICIOTTI now sitting just beyond the 4 tugboats in the mist.

Assuming she will escort CC on her final voyage to Genoa on Tuesday?

Thanks to everyone for all the links/photos over the last few days!

The difference between a ton and a metric ton is not too much. A ton is 2,000 pounds and a metric ton is 1,000 kilograms. Therefore a metric ton converted to pounds is 2,204 pounds.

That's true. I always think the main difference is the metric ton has an e on the end.
