Oh well after starting out so well onboard this voyage and having the Captain and 2 of her Officers join our M & G, when on a tour in the skywalk forest in Costa Rica I slipped on some loose gravel on a dry path just a few steps from the end of over an hours walk and broke my ankle:eek: both my tib and fib.

Had a hunky guide who helped get me to the road where our taxi was and the driver was fantastic and got some ice then we went to the local hospital where he got us some quick service as he seemed to know everyone and thank goodness we had him for translation.

We were less than 2 hrs in hospital having xrays seen a specialist and having a plaster cast put on and there was no charge! The hospital was very run down with peeling walls and chipped tiles but they were doing the best they could with what they had. It was fairly busy and seemed organized. The locals are grateful for it all and I think they have a similar system to UK where they have a deduction from their wages of about 13 to 15%.

The taxi then took us right up to the ship ramp where the ship staff brought a wheelchair for me.We then went straight to see the ship Dr and as we didn’t have copies of x-rays went through the process again and got some much needed painkillers. They took the plaster off even though it was sufficient and could be x-rayed with it on as they have the preferred option of the boot with the inflatable bladder, which is lighter and more comfortable.

Great facilities and service, even though I would prefer not to need them. So now I am set to enjoy this luxury convalescence for the remaining voyage, from wheelchair level. Thank goodness for the disability rights the bathrooms on board are a godsend. I am very annoyed with myself and having never broken any bones before I must say it flippin hurts

We have just passed through the first lock of the Panama Canal which I watched from the cabin (obstructed ocean view) on TV and DH has been up top in the crowds to take pictures. It is pretty hard to get to the rails as the early birds have hogged them with chairs and tables. I will go out soon and hog a place with my wheelchair.

The pursars desk just called to ask how I am, and said to call 24/7 if I need any assistance. The staff have been great.

The on board fees so far have been $800 and will be a bit more as having blood thinning jab for a few days just to be safe from blood clots.

Rumour:rolleyes: has it I fell from the skywalk I did not but if anyone asks I will say I did a double somersault landed on left leg but the right leg broke.

Another passenger fell on the church steps in Huatulco and broke her arm, and the medical staff had a couple of disgruntled passengers giving them a hard time, no pleasing some people, and I was there and the staff were very accomadating and the pas were very rude.

Off to attempt to wash my hair, did you know you can fit the chair in the bathroom!!!!!

Julie:D

Good heavens! You have been in the wars haven't you. But it's great to hear that you were so well looked after both off and on the ship. And you never spoke a truer word about convalescing - I can't think of a better place to do it than on QV!!! Hope everything mends soon.

So sorry to hear about your accident, but it is good to know that the medical team are on top of things. When we did the sky walk in January it was very slippery and I was concerned about taking a tumble. We watched some of the Canal transit from the Commodore Club, I am sure you would be able to get a front row view if you ask!

Hi Julie,

Many warm wishes from Margaret, Pam, Geraldine, Jackie, Alan, Jim, Henry and me and of course Jess and Rolando! Emlyn was kind enough to share Mark's e-mail news with us so we all continued to send you good thoughts. We are all hoping all went well in St. Thomas and you were able to make it back to NY without too much hassle or pain.

It was truly a pleasure meeting you guys. So sorry you weren't there when Alan finally opened up and regaled us with tales of his wild adventures.:)

Hope the leg mends quickly and relatively painlessly.;)

Best,

David

Julie -- so sorry to hear about your accident. I sprained my arm a few years back when I was on a RCI cruise -- not a very fun way to spend your vacation. Best wishes for a quick recovery. Hope to see you again on a future Cunard voyage. Katherine

good afternoon julie.

I did not see you to say goodbye before I left the ship yesterday. For some odd reason Cunard had me off BEFORE the luggage was in the terminal.

Finally arrived back in Florida , to miss my family at my arrival, very worrying , but we all finally made it 30 mins later.

News from condo still not at all good. in fact it is unlivable at the moment, so I am staying at my daughters house, and will be for at least 2-3 weeks. Am using her computer but my addresses remain the same, wonders of modern science.

I will be able to stay in touch with my e mails and banking etc. but could have cried when I saw my home today, it is so "destroyed"

Still I do have the Aug cruise to look forward to, I enjoyed meeting everyone at the meet.

Best wishes to all

Lynn

Hi Lynn

That is bad news about your condo, i felt sure they would get it all done in 17 days. I am sure it will all be worth the wait and nice and new when finished.

We had to leave:mad: the ship on Mon in St Thomas as i had to have an op as the bones moved. I had it on Wed and flew back to NY on Friday. Very painful:eek: but easing off now. I cant walk for 6 weeks and have my leg elevated.

It was nice to meet you and maybe again on another voyage

Ask the Maintence Officer to get your hubby a pair of work gloves when he pushes you around, although it might be too late if he's got blisters.

Keep your leg up! :D

Thats a great idea that we didnt think of:rolleyes:

No blisters though and we got back to NY on the 16th so no more wheelchair pushing. Just waiting on:D while i sit with my leg elevated.
