Shall we go for an aft on Nieuw Amsterdam?

Currently we have a VA port balcony for our Med cruise in July. I have just seen on the HAL website that an aft cabin is available on deck 4 and we are tempted to go for it. Any advice on aft cabins on NA and on deck 4 in particular.Another odd thing is that the cabin is classified VB.Any particular reason for this?

Please help soon as I don't want to miss the cabin if we decide to go for it!

You will find that people who have an aft wrap around balcony absolutely LOVE them, that is the SC category. The VB although an aft cabin is not wrap around. When people on this forum rave about the aft cabins it's usually the wrap around one's they are referring to.

There are several categories within the "V" series of staterooms. I'm not really sure why, but I think the second letter just designates more desirable locations.

Note that you will feel more movement in the aft cabin than a mid ship cabin. I don't know if this is your first cruise or not, but that may be something to consider.

Thanks for the helpful comments. We've taken the plunge and gone for an aft cabin on Nieuw Amsterdam. We have managed to get 7138 which looks to be a great cabin looking at deck plans and the excellent pics and info posted by OVGirl on Joanie's website - longer than other cabins and with that exciting view of the wake:)

You will LOVE IT!!!!

The 4, 5, 6, 7138 and deck 8 equivalent are about 1 inch longer (or should I be saying wider??) between the foot of the bed and the wall. There also appears to be 1 inch or so more on the verandah width wise in those middle aft staterooms, though you cannot tell it from the deck plans themselves.

Have a great cruise:)

LOL! Okay, a one inch difference is something that 99.9% of passengers would never notice.

All I can think is that you were trying to get a wheelchair or other item with very tight clearance through that space to even be aware of a one inch difference. :)

Nope not me, I had friends in the VA middle stateroom who measures the space for me and they told me. I always book the SC Aft Wraps:)

Remember some of those cabins have obstructed balconies and if that ok, go for it!

I must say I was expecting the cabin to be more than an 'inch' bigger!

I suppose the question must be - bigger than what?

By what I've read here people who've been in these aft cabins on deck seven are comparing them with standard verandah cabins on port and starboard. If we make this comparison I feel we might be talking of feet rather than inches.;)

As for obstructions on these aft balconies - obstructed by what:confused:

Friends of ours had aft cabin VA 4182 on the Nieuw Amsterdam and we were in VD 4143 (forward starboard). 4182 had more space and was 'longer' by a few feet. The balcony was smaller than ours but the VDs have deeper balconies. I would still rather take the VD ;)
