dress pants and nice shirt is for formal nights. other than that you can get by w jeans and a nice shirt on the rest of the nights. as far as chops, it's formal every night there.

Have a good time!

Chops is not formal every night. It's the same dress code as the MDR.

Hi, Brian. Welcome to the RCCL board.

Are you planning to wear the dress pants and skirt at the same time? :D I kid! Yes, dress pants and skirts are great for dinner in the MDR. Chops will also observe formal nights, so a suit and tie is appropriate, but I don't think they will refuse entry if you only wear a dress shirt and tie without the suit jacket. I'd suggest a dark dress shirt in that case. Though they 'suggest' suits and tuxes on formal nights, they don't really enforce it like they used to. You're bound to get some different answers on this topic, as you know.

I hope you enjoy your first RCCL cruise.

On the Freedom of the Seas, the Cruise Compass listed the dress suggestion for Chops and Portofino as "Smart Casual" every night, including the two formal nights.

Neither of these posts is correct.

The dress code in Chops 100% of the time is "smart casual." This means nice, collared shirts with nice slacks at a minimum for men, nice dresses or dressy slacks at a minimum for women.

Would never wear "jeans" in the MDR and thankfully very rarely have seen jeans in the MDR in the last few years....K.O. outside of Philly

Our experience has been just the opposite. Jeans are a very common sight in the MDR at dinner now.

To me:

Formal attire always meant a waistcoat, tie and tails;

Evening wear always meant a tux

Business attire always meant a suit;

Smart Casual always meant sport coat, dress shirt, tie;

Country Club Casual always meant you could 86 the coat and tie, and substitute a collared polo shirt for the dress shirt;

And then there's tractor pull casual, which apparently means anything north of naked.

But then I'm old:rolleyes:

They won't even deny you entry to Chops if you dress in a collared shirt without a tie. Suggested dress is "smart casual" and your definition of what that means is probably as good as anyone's. Jeans are not and, to the best of my knowledge have never been,on RCI's list of clothing items that aren't suggested for wear in the dining room If you are clean and neat you should not feel out of place in any of the dining venues.:)
