Sapphire Princess: Laundry?

We are going on a 7-day Alaska cruise on Sapphire Princess. Do they have laundry machines available for use during the cruise, or do we need to pack lots of clothing? We are trying to keep our luggage limited to what we can carry on with us on the plane trip, without having to check in bags.

Thanks for any information on this.

Yes, all Princess ships have passenger laundries. If you take a look at the deck plans for your ship, you'll see they're on all passenger decks, except Lido, I believe. Very nice facilities: clean, well-lit, several machines, irons, ironing boards, soap machines, and change machines.

Depending on your itinerary, there will be a brief period when they'll be closed, I think for Glacier Bay?, but that will be announced in advance.

Washer and dryers are $2 each per cycle.

Laundry rooms not available in Tracy Arm and some Alaskan ports and waterways.

No laundry on emerald deck.

We are taking 1 carryon +1 29" bag between hubby and me.

No air travel for us

Wearing our hiking boots on.

I have done laundry while in port. On a back to back. the day of embarkation for the next cruise. It was a great time to do it. Had it all most to myself.

That is my plan - will do laundry just after we "report" for our next leg.:D

Will plan to use drycleaning services also. :)

Just wondering, why would the laundry be closed while in port or in Glacier Bay? Would they not store the dirty water etc. till farther out to sea etc?
They can only store so much water and waste. The ship doesn't go far enough from shore for long periods of time to be able to discharge the treated gray water. I believe the ship must be at least 12 miles from land. Not possible when sailing the Inside passage.

Most decks with cabins have at least one laundry room . Go to the Princess website and look up the deck for the Sapphire .Ther you'll see the laundry locations.

I think they are asking the same as I in going to Alaska we keep reading how much the laundry rooms are closed due to the regulations so I think we are both seeking info from others when they are opened so we can do our laundry.

So if you do not want to do laundry on your cruise does sapphire offer packages you can purchase ? Price?
Because most passengers use the self-serve laundries, Princess offers a "all you can stuff in a bag" special only very occasionally. It's usually on longer cruises and perhaps only once or twice. When they do, I think it's $20/bag. If you're on a 7-day cruise, I wouldn't count on it. You can always send out laundry at the regular prices, which are pretty reasonable.

Does anyone know if laundry is opened at turnaround day in Whittier? We will be on the Sapphire.

I was on B2B, starting June 2 in Vancouver. The laundry on Baja deck was open turnaround day in Whittier. I checked it out because I had seen reports on CC that it could be closed on this day. I'm not sure about Glacier Bay, but don't remember it being closed anytime during the cruise.

We are just off the Sapphire Princess on Emerald Deck (Deck 8). There are laundry facilities on this deck. Several machines, very tidy, very efficient.

Oh such good news. Thanks so much for responding. That is just what we were hoping for since there doesn't appear to be much to do at Whittier and we are there all day and part of the evening.
