I just received an answer from the Seabourn-Club to my question about the new Luggage Tags for our Spirit cruise in August. We just got the old one.

 

"Thank you for your recent correspondence with Seabourn. The luggage tag benefit will begin in the Fall of 2012. The tags will be sent out each time you sail in the final cruise document packet.

 

We apologize for any disappointment caused by the fact that the tags are not yet available. Thank you for your patience."

We love Seabourn and have been loyal to this line going back to ’95.

 

Regarding the SB Club; we gotta say it’s too little and a big disappointment.

 

A frequent cruiser club is to incent cruiser loyalty and reward them with meaningful dividends for that loyalty. But over the years SB has reduced the incentive from 14 days reward to 7 for upper level 100+ night cruisers.

 

In comparison with other cruise line reward clubs, a comp bag of laundry at SB cruise prices paid by the more loyal cruisers is…well it’s like giving loyal members of Augusta National Golf Club 3 complimentary golf balls.

 

SB’s competition (e.g; Regent) gives unlimited internet for an entire cruise at just 21 nights and most cabins include use of an Apple i-Pad with wifi all over the ship in addition to garment pressing, newspapers, phone use...@ just 21 nights.

 

Other premium cruise lines upgrade your Club status aboard ship if you go over a breakpoint number of nights while aboard ship…SB won’t count your new level till your next cruise.

 

At 100+ nights on Seabourn (averaging say $1k per night cost) a couple bags of laundry and 6 hours of internet connectivity...are you serious?

 

We love ya Seabourn but you missed your corporate Club target here by a very long distance.

You are forgetting one very important element. After 140 days you get a free seven day cruise with Seabourn and after 250 days a free fourteen day cruise. I'll take that over some more free laundry any day.

Correct me if I'm wrong: When we first started to sail on Seabourn and for many years there after, the attractive SB Club benefit awarded 14 days loyalty comp'd when one reached 140 nights aboard ship.

 

Now, SB has reduced the 14 comp days to 7 days comp'd at 140 nights paid...7 less days for a few bags of laundry?

 

Less is not more.

 

Nor does Club SB incent us as it used to.

I am a regular traveller with Seabourn and am not at all bothered by free gifts or incentives that might or might not be offered.

 

I look forward to every trip,choose a particular suite,pay the price and that's it.

I am not looking at what Seabourn will give me for sailing with them,I think there is enough value with what Seabourn include in the price of the cruise.

 

Now I suppose some people are different to me and look to getting every penny out of Seabourn or whoever thier chosen line is.

 

Good to have two different views and choose which one suits you.

I am very pleased with the loyalty program of Seabourn. It is not merely an incentive program, by the way, and I view it as an added bonus to what I consider the best line on the seas in terms of the Odyssey, Sojourn and Quest with their generous appointments.

 

I read somewhere that the president of Ohio State University has a sign on his desk as follows:

 

If you do not like change you will like irrelevance even less

 

So with change afoot and that includes the change about 140 days for a one week free cruise and the new 250 for 2 weeks, one might as well look at the glass half full. We are not talking about rolling with the punches either, just to put the Seabourn loyalty program in perspective.

I know of no other luxury cruise line that gives you a free seven day cruise after 140 days. If you really don't like the benefits no one is forcing you to accept them.

I have to agree with Henry. The new SB Club benefits are "value added", not take away.

I agree with Stephen, Henry and Dan! Yes it was a pity when they changed the 140 days into 250 for two weeks complimentary (we hope to make ours September 28....:cool:). But as loyal club members we now get another extras as well. I remember one 14 days free cruise we had over Christmas and there were just too many of us taking advantage of that. You would understand they have to make some money;)!

Then what happens? Your travel agent will do the booking and charge for any days beyond 14 e.g. in the case of a cruise of 16 days. That is what I have arranged on Odyssey for February.

 

I would like someone, anyone!, to tell me what cruise line offers a better loyalty benefit on its own terms and what ship offers more space per passenger with all the luxurious services and appointments than Seabourn Odyssey, Sojourn and Quest.

 

Any takers?

How is the extra charge beyond 14 days calculated? Is it based on the average daily cost of the desired cruise x the number of days over 14?

You know, I never asked nor have I even checked! But as your formula makes sense I cannot imagine anyone trying another formula to take advantage of the moment!

 

A call to a specialist cruise travel agent who deals with Seabourn regularly and on that basis has done these bookings recently will reveal what is what.

Your suite assignment for the free cruise is allocated based on the category you have most often booked. For instance if you have mostly booked an A1 on the triplets that is what you will get. If the cruise is longer than 7 or 14 days you will be alloted the per diem cost of an A1 for the length of the free cruise and charged the same for the extra days. If you book a higher category for your free cruise you will still be alloted the rate for an A1 and have to pay the daily difference for the higher category for the entire cruise. Similarly on the large ships if you have mostly booked a V1 it will be calculated in the same manner. I hope that's clear. It is in my head but not so sure it translated on to the page.
