Carnival Secrets they usually don't tell you about #2

We like to take rootbeer with us and fill our cups with the softserve ice cream and make rootbeer floats!

I always do the same (although often I bring Birch Beer instead - birch beer floats are better, IMHO... :D ). Bring it in a can and chill the can in an ice bucket from your cabin steward before you make it - that way the root beer crystalizes better when it hits the ice cream.

JH just announced on Facebook yesterday that they'll be carrying Barq's root beer on all ships starting fairly soon, so you might not need to bring your own in the future.

Another tip - in addition to the free Carnival cards you can get at Guest Services, you can also buy used Casino cards at the casino desk for $1 a deck. These are excellent quality, and Carnival notches the edges instead of punches a hole, so they're easy to handle. They often sell these out early, but if you get there on the last day of sailing, they often have a new stock. One less obvious thing -- by default the decks they sell only have the basic 52 cards, but you can ask for the Jokers if you want them, as they usually have a huge stack of those laying in a drawer.

I love rootbeer floats also. But on my last cruise in Sept. on Fascination, first day I was going back to refill my lemonade and had to walk by the ice cream station to get to the drinks. Well, I just dispensed about 1/2 a glass of vanilla soft serve in my glass then filled it the rest of the way with lemonade. Oh my goodness, that was GOOOOOD!

My traveling roommate and I then had to have this at least once a day (sometimes twice a day) the rest of the cruise. Those lemon slushes were very refreshing! I think I may try it with the strawberry frozen yogurt next week on Breeze! :D

I have no idea if this will work again. One night on Triumph my husband bought alcohol from the cruise gift shop and asked if he could take them back to his room (small bottle gift set). The cashiers said yes and to hide them as he is walknig back to the room with them.

A few nights later he tried it again with a different guy and the guy told him no.

I understand this might have been a one time thing. But my husband said he will always ask because just one time it might happen again.

I don't know if this is something anyone will find useful, but I did it on our last cruise and will do it again in June (our family found it extremely useful). I bought some wet erase markers (or also called chalk markers) and on one of the mirrors, I wrote out what we had planned (time, event, where). I would look through the Fun Times the night prior, and write out our "schedule" - that way if we split up, one would just have to go to the room and see where the others are. Just let your steward know that you will be writing on the mirrors and and not to erase it and will have it cleaned up for them at the end of the cruise.

Can someone help me? I thought I'd bookmarked a post that referred to how many days of free laundry Platinum members get on cruises over 7 days, but I can't find it. I think it contained a link to an FAQ that addressed this. I've also tried various searches of the Carnival website and can only find references to the number of free bags of laundry that are available for Platinum cruisers on cruises of 7 days or less, but nothing for longer than that. HELP !!!

Complimentary Wash & Fold

(2 bags on a 3 – 6 day cruises,

3 bags on a 7+ day cruises)

Thanks. Someone on another thread also found the following:

Love this thread making me even more ready for my cruises in Jan and June. One thing I always find helpful is "decorating" my door that way I can easy find my cabin also carpet colors are typically different colors depending on forward or aft and port and starboard easy way to know where you are in the middle of cabins.

Most of these I've learned from others on CC.

1. Email a scanned copy of Passport, travel guard information & credit card to self before cruise. That way if you loose everything....... this info can easily be looked up.

2. Bring a couple clothes hangers to hang on line in shower to dry multiple items at once. Might be able to get some from steward.

3. Purx 3 in 1 sheets to do laundry (mind you I haven't been able to find these yet, but many suggest)

4. In Europe carry your own TP.

5. (This one is mine) Going to make cards with names of places I'm going in Europe to hand to Cab drivers or others we are trying to get directions to. Also, looking for App for kindle.

6. Be careful what you put in $15 laundry bag. It is all washed & dried on hot.

Have a great cruise:D

If you have younger kids, Camp Carnival will give you a cell phone to use for the duration of the cruise (even if your kids don't go to camp every day, you hang onto it). The phone will only work on the ship, but you can call it from a stateroom or house phone (it has its own extension) or use it to call a stateroom. On one cruise we had two phones - one for me and one for my husband - we could call each other easily if separated. You just have to remember to return it before disembarking!!!

We got them on the Triumph, but they did ask to make sure you were using the slot machines.

I got them on the Triumph also. There was a man standing outside the Casino entrance closest to the elevators handing them out, as well as punching cards.

I asked for mine as well as 4 for my children who was at the kids club orientation with their father and they had no problem giving me 3 blk ones for my sons and a purple one for my daughter.

Wait until towards the end of the cruise to do massages and such in the spa. They have them discounted big time compared to the beginning of the cruise.

Also, wait until the last day or so of the cruise to buy T-Shirts and such as souvenirs (or for yourself) as these are also discounted!

I learned the hard way, buying that stuff in the beginning of the cruise and being disappointed when I could have gotten the same stuff for much cheaper if I had waited til the end of the cruise.

  • 1 month later...

Apply for the Carnival credit card on the ship. There is usually a table set up w a member of the staff there. You usually get a carnival bag and lanyard when you apply. You can always cancel the card if you are accepted. They don't put the paperwork into the system right then and there, you just fill out the info. Just a great way to get a free gift.

We make "Dream-cicle" drinks. Using orange juice from breakfast, vanilla ice cream and vodka from Bon Voyage. Soooo good. Make it a virgin for the kiddos.

There are so many things you can do with the free ice cream. Probably wouldn't do this particular option, but as others have mentioned, using ice cream with the lemonade, using it with coffee for a frapuccino type drink, bringing on root beer for root beer floats, getting some milk and making milk shakes.

I bought an inexpensive binder and some of those clear plastic page sleeves. I printed all my necessary paperwork for my pre-cruise hotels, airline tickets, all my cruise docs, excursion info, etc. Everything for each day was in one of the sleeves. I also included a stack of lined paper and a few pens and I took notes every night (for my review but also so I'd be able to answer questions about the ship and remember little things for myself as well!).

We brought insulated cups and used them all the time. Filled em to the top with ice, just a bit of water, and a crystal light pack and were good to go for at least a few hours!

Also each had a shoe holder thing but we hardly used it.

I found my cabin window was a great place to store things. LOL

I do the same thing with the binder. I also print out a calendar page for each day to show what time the ship arrives, what time we need to be where for our excursion and what time the ship leaves that day. At the end of the day I review what is on the calendar for the next day. There is a great benefit to having all the necessary documents in the right place when you need to access them quickly.

Thank you for restarting a new thread. The old was was too long and out dated.

The thread evolved from "Carnival Secrets" to alos include tips and ideas from seasoned cruisers. I found those actually more helpful than the "Carnival Secrets"

Heres one i started doing on my last cruise. With Digital cameras, we all end up taking hundreds of pictures. My problem was that after the cruise when I got home, I would go through my pics and have a hard time remembering where a pic was taken, when, and what it was!

So now each morning, before I leave the cabin, I take a picture of the front page of the Fun Times. It has the date and port of call on it. I now know that every pic taken after that one is in sucn and such port and taken on such and such date. Makes organizing our photo albums much easier.

This is an awesome idea....you know how many times we look at our pix and dh says this was at ???? and I say not there but ????

will def be doing this in March
