Mara Suung Posted August 30, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 30, 2012 I'm already thinking about a cruise early next year. Does anyone know when most of the Texas Spring breaks are, so I can avoid those cruises? Want to use Port of Galveston.:)

am588 Posted August 30, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 30, 2012 I cruised out of Galveston this past January (3rd week) and there were less than 50 kids on the cruise
5waldos Posted August 30, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 30, 2012 See when the prices jump up- good indication that the schools are out and famiies are going to be cruise booking.
firefly333 Posted August 30, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 30, 2012 Doesnt Princess go out of Galveston.. if you want to avoid kids, not sure why you are doing a family friendly cruise.
lastone/off/the/boat Posted August 30, 2012 #6 Share Posted August 30, 2012 spring break for houston is March 11-15.
bplazo Posted August 30, 2012 #7 Share Posted August 30, 2012 Doesnt Princess go out of Galveston.. if you want to avoid kids, not sure why you are doing a family friendly cruise. Because there are not alot of cruise lines going out of Galvaston. I just think that all the ships should have more adult area only areas.
codeblue0827 Posted August 30, 2012 #8 Share Posted August 30, 2012 spring break for houston is March 11-15. Exactly! And you will notice as someone mentioned the prices jump quite a lot that week. I have been looking at that week for the exact reason you are avoiding it!
Crazy4Koko Posted August 30, 2012 #9 Share Posted August 30, 2012 October.... First week in March..... no young kid vacations around then, either... Took our girls in October 2009... less than 100 kids on board...!!
firefly333 Posted August 30, 2012 #10 Share Posted August 30, 2012 Because there are not alot of cruise lines going out of Galvaston. You really think a waterpark isnt going to attract a lot of kids.. and the rope course etc.

Holders3 Posted August 30, 2012 #12 Share Posted August 30, 2012 Both April and March are Spring Break times. Different states and different school systems, colleges, etc equals quite a spread of spring break.
DebJ14 Posted August 30, 2012 #13 Share Posted August 30, 2012 People will keep their kids out of school if the price is right so there is no safe time as far as we are concerned. School started in TX Aug 27, yet this week on the Magic there are 700 rugrats. People from the NE who's kids don't start untll after Labor Day are onboard. Ruined our plans for a quiet vacation. firefly333 Posted August 31, 2012 #17 Share Posted August 31, 2012 We went the first week of April once.. who knew it was spring break in Mexico. This was a RCL Cruise out of Galveston. We had 1200 Mexicans onboard, I kid you not. And one of our ports was Roatan, spring break there too, so we were not allowed to park in West End. We had to promise to just drive thru. The worst part was the delay getting thru customs afterwards. My theory is you never can tell so dont worry about it.
golfb4cruzing Posted August 31, 2012 #18 Share Posted August 31, 2012 A little time on Google and there is a site that lists schools and Spring Break. I don't remember it and Princess is a good suggestion. Great trips and enforced Adult Only areas.
misstopgun Posted August 31, 2012 #19 Share Posted August 31, 2012 Its all the "home schoolers" They can pick up and go anytime since there parents are the "teachers". This and other things we dont we dont even think about. We were overrun in late October about four years ago. When we asked a couple of kids why they weren't in school, the said they were on "fall break". What the heck is that? We must be getting old and out of touch. We now plan our traditional fall cruise for the first week in Oct.

I think they are somewhat affordable and less "kid focused". The big slide on the Magic sure looks like fun, though. 64 days and counting....:)
momto2inkc Posted August 31, 2012 #22 Share Posted August 31, 2012 My kids spring break is the Thurs, Fri, Mon and Tues around Easter. They get Presidents Day and the day after off in Feb (Feb 18 & 19). We're cruising that week out of Galveston. I'm assuming there will be a good amount of kids our week. Mara Suung Posted August 31, 2012 Author #23 Share Posted August 31, 2012 Doesnt Princess go out of Galveston.. if you want to avoid kids, not sure why you are doing a family friendly cruise. Because we got an incredible deal! I don't hate kids, just want some adult space, too. Not a gambler or a bar junkie, though. My river cruises have had very few children (very well behaved), and reading these boards I'm hearing about kids running everywhere, diapers in hot tubs, etc. Am definitely going on my first mega ship with an open mind and pre-planned tolerance built in. Minor issues won't get in the way of my adventure! :)
m*u*g* Posted August 31, 2012 #24 Share Posted August 31, 2012 You may also want to check on large party quince cruises. I try to avoid those also.

Its also the one ship that has a adult area out of Galveston for Carnival.
