MrFunInTheSun Posted September 13, 2012 #29 Share Posted September 13, 2012 Wahoo! Another Grady review! Thanks for taking us along with your excellent trip aboard the Ecstasy! You got that right with the rooms much bigger on Carnival Fantasy class ships vs. the Monarch.
DarthGrady Posted September 13, 2012 Author #30 Share Posted September 13, 2012 Ecstasy’s public areas were in very good shape for a twenty year old Fun Ship. I didn’t find any major maintenance issues. It appeared that her disco had been totally renovated and looked very modern. The Chinatown Bar on the promenade was definitely the most intricately themed lounge on the ship. I was disappointed to find out that cigar smoking is no longer allowed in the Society Bar. A relaxing conversation in a nice lounge over drinks and good cigars is an integral part of the cruise experience. A hot, windy pool deck does not suffice. Our first drink on board (faces have been blurred to protect reputations LOL) The Atrium Lobby and Guest Services desk Chinatown

DGP1111 Posted September 13, 2012 #33 Share Posted September 13, 2012 Glad to read you had a grand time, DG!!! :D . :D . :D I was sharing Nassau with you on Friday (was on Disney Dream). It appeared your ship was being delayed a bit while waiting on some missing passengers . . . . or was that you. :p . :p . Looks like the Sensation was docked at the new terminal #6 and not Ecstasy? I thought it was the other way around? Carnival Sensation will now routinely dock at the new terminal, and that will cause Carnival Ecstasy to occasionally have to start/finish at different locations (thankfully they are next door to each other). . DarthGrady Posted September 13, 2012 Author #37 Share Posted September 13, 2012 explain this open bar to me... As I understand it, it's a perk that can be had by large groups, but all cabins have to buy in. It has to be approved through certain channels, and not all groups get approved forit. It also jacks the price of the cruise up by about $50 a day, so it might not be worth it for some. I was given info on the group back in 2010 from a friend of mine, and we've been going each year since. Apparently CCL is starting a trial program where anyone can buy it, so hopefully it takes off. So Sensation is always at #6 and Ecstasy uses it when Sensation is not there? I would assume the only overlay would be Thursdays correct? I sail Saturday and was hoping to get a peek at the new digs. DarthGrady Posted September 13, 2012 Author #41 Share Posted September 13, 2012 The Stripes disco. Unfortunately its far too small for the number of people that pack into it. The Fantasy Class discos used to be twice the size, but CCL converted the aft halves of them into meeting rooms several years ago. The Society Bar, formerly (and sadly) the cigar lounge. Carnival Dream utilizes the new terminal every Saturday, which would indicate you boarding at #5 . . . but . . . if Dream is out of the picture for a while doing drydock, you might get your wish. Sorry for the hijack, DG! :o . .
