QCNash09 Posted September 28, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 28, 2012 We have a Friday evening before our cruise leaves on Saturday to enjoy the local flavor so to speak. Any suggestions/recommendations as to where to eat in the area. We don't want a super fancy place ($$$) but not fast food either. Any good ones on the beach possibly?? Thanks! karabear15 Posted September 28, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 28, 2012 When we are down in Ft Lauderdale we always have dinner at the Oasis Cafe. It's right across the street from the beach, and its not traditional dining. Most of the seating is outside, and you sway in gliders. The food is delicious but just the overal atmosphere is what hs us returning each year.

rkacruiser Posted September 28, 2012 #4 Share Posted September 28, 2012 If you have a car, consider Old Florida Seafood House. It is not in the tourist area and seems to have mostly local residents as guests. Huge portions and prices, at least at my last visit a couple of years ago, were very reasonable for what one received.

ragtiki2004 Posted September 29, 2012 #8 Share Posted September 29, 2012 Was just at Gilbert's this past Monday. Great blue cheese burger, the homemade fries are to die for and save room for the key lime pie for dessert. They close at 9:00 P.M. and also do not open on Sundays. Rare JamesEM Posted September 29, 2012 #11 Share Posted September 29, 2012 There are several good places to eat along the water front in the Los Olas section of town.

I've been to Ft Lauderdale a ton of times and my friends lived near it and I ate there all the time. Great food in a basket with a piece of wax paper. On the intercoastal and cheap! Also waxy oconnor's irish pub is amazing!

ragtiki2004 Posted October 6, 2012 #19 Share Posted October 6, 2012 Great burgers at Gilbert's. Also tried Le Tub in Hollywood for the biggest burger ever. It is near a water taxi stop. Bob:)
Putterdude Posted October 6, 2012 #20 Share Posted October 6, 2012 We tried Le Tub in January, it was fun but maybe a bit over-rated, we had a waitress with a bit of an attitude. We were staying in Hollywood Beach but I wouldn't spend $30 each way for a cab from Fort Lauderdale. http://www.theletub.com/default.asp
ragtiki2004 Posted October 7, 2012 #21 Share Posted October 7, 2012 My waitress was not the best either. Some foreign girl who did not seem happy to be there. Had a hard time understanding my order. Service was very slow, took her forever to come and take my order. Bob:)

royalcruz Posted October 7, 2012 #23 Share Posted October 7, 2012 We'll be in FL for 5 days pre-cruise. Will definitely try out some of the suggestions here. Thanks guys ;) Some very popular and fun restaurants around Ft Lauderdale right now are Asia Bay, Dapur (noisy), Mangos, YOLO, Casablanca Cafe, Coconuts and the new G & B Oyster Bar next door. These are nice places to go if you are looking for a vibe and not just food. Coconuts is the most casual because it is on a marina. There are also some very popular new gastro-pubs (very young crowd) on Las Olas: Royal Pig and American Social.
tenmile Posted October 8, 2012 #24 Share Posted October 8, 2012 I love Gilbert's too, glad you enjoyed it. Have a great cruise. Is Gilberts within walking distance from the Renaissance or Embassy Suite hotels on 17th Street? This restaurant seems to be a favorite!
