My "Dream" Double Birthday Cruise September 22-29, 2012

Recommended Posts

Hey All, just off the Carnival Dream today. This was the first cruise fresh off of drydock for the Dream.

We went on this cruise to celebrate my husband's birthday (Sept.22nd) and mine (Sept. 23rd).

Who Joined Me?: DH, DM(Mom), and myself.

Location: DH and I had the cove (7C) room 2349. Excellent location..no noise loved loved the location. DM had room 2351 (inside) which was across the hall

Itinerary: Eastern Caribbean; Nassau, St. Thomas, and St.Marten

Things We Did out of the ordinary? We chartered a boat to go deep sea fishing in St.Thomas:D

Hopefully, i can get this review up and running with details and pictures as soon as i can figure out how to post pics. Why do i wait to learn how to post pics?:p:D

For pictures, the easiest way is to open an account on Photobucket and upload your pictures there. Then, when you want to include a picture into your post you type in what ever text that you want, then add a blank line and then go to photo bucket and put your mouse over the picture in your album and a set of links will pop up. Click on the link labeled IMG Code and it will be copied. Then come back here to your post and paste the link, add another blank line, and either add another picture or type some more.

You can also compose your post including the picture links in Word and then cut and paste the whole thing here.

okay thanks for the photo review tips..i'm going to upload the pics tomorrow...hubby and i took over 1700! So bare with me. I promise to finish this review this week.

Also if anyone have any questions shoot.

The Dream got the "Taste Bar", "Red Rum Frog" Bar, "Blue Iguana Bar", and "Cherry on Top". The "Taste Bar" is located next to the coffe shop. It's on deck 5 mid ship. The new bars are located on the Lido deck by the pool.

And the "Cherry on Top" is located on deck 5 right outside the casino and smack dab in between the Fun Shops.

Oh yeah i slept with a celebrity!;)

Already packed. Of course out of 1700 pics not one..nada was of the food. We did eat ALL of it if that's any indication of how the food was. It didn't stay long enough on the plate.:p:D

Look forward to your review. The Dream is a beautiful ship but its been a couple years since we sailed her. With the dry dock and upgrades it must be amazing. I'm sure there may have been a couple minor glitches from dry dock but they certainly shouldn't have dampened the fun on the Dream. I'm sure you got pics of the new "stuff". Can't wait to see them.

Hope you had a great Birthday! This was for my husband's and my 17th Anniversary. We had a few problems, but they worked out in the end. In all the cruises we have been on, this was the first one we had problems on. So I guess we have been lucky! Can't wait to see what you did in the ports! I always like to know so when I go back I want to do something different.

I think i'm going to do the review and then try to add the pictures later. Photoshop and my computer are having issues...I don't want to leave everyone hanging so i'll do a day-by-day review and try to post pics as i can. DISCLAIMER: Most of the pics are unedited and i'm no photographer! LOL

Friday September 21, 2012

We woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed ready for our 8:55am direct flight to Orlando. I slept like a baby the night before but with a big cheesy grin on my face. My husband, Gerald, on the other hand spent the night before cleaning and packing. Why do men always wait until the last minute to do their check list? I on the other hand was packed and ready to go 2 weeks beforehand. That may have been why when I weighted our luggage the night before we had 1 suitcase at 46lbs and another at a whooping 62lbs!! Remind you we were flying and the max is 50lbs per luggage. Up until this point we were trying to decide whether or not we were going to upgrade to 1st class.

So anyhoo, we wake up to a phone call from my excited Mom making sure we were up and about. The time was 6:15am. Mom picked us up and we drove to the airport. While in the car I did a documents check. You hear all those horror stories of cruisers leaving their passports and birth certificates behind. I was determined that we would not experience that fright. When we got to the airport and proceeded to check-in with the AirTran agent I casually asked, “Are there any 1st class seats available?” I just knew they were going to be sold out. FYI: You can purchase 1st class seats, if available, 24hrs before the flight for only $69pp online or wait until you check-in at the airport. The agent was like, “yep, for $69pp”. I was debating should we shouldn’t we when my mother stepped in and was like, “we’ll do it!” Love my Mom. No baggage fees and no worries about my 62lbs luggage!:D I love AirTran even more because once I mentioned it was our birthday weekend, the agent knocked off $50 from the price for all 3. All I have to say is once you go 1st Class it’s hard to go back!

AirTran: 9/10

Our flight was uneventful and we landed in Orlando at 12:55pm. Next on our list was to grab the rental car. We decided to use Budget. I give them an 8 on price but a 0 for their check-in process. We waited in line for close to an hour to get to the desk to check in for our car. It wasn’t like the line was so long. There were only 3 families in front of us. I felt so bad for the Porter who was assisting us. We gave him a nice little tip. We received a full-size SUV (Ford Edge) with taxes/fees for $79.00. We used the discount code Y937800. We needed it we each had 1 20inch carry-on and 1 25-28inch suitcase. If you just need a compact car this code can get you one for as little as $30 including taxes/fees. We found our car and tipped the porter. You will see a trend starting here.

BUDGET: 5/10 only due to the horrendous check-in process. Car was great and check out was great and fast.

We proceeded towards Cape Canaveral and our hotel. The drive was easy and very short, 528 East. We were all excited and chatted away. It was about 30-45mins later and we were in Cape Canaveral. Our home for the night was going to be the Residence Inn. Now this is where we could have possibly saved money. LOVED! LOVED! LOVED! LOVED the hotel. Can you tell I really LOVED the Hotel? My hubby and I could have done with the basic hotel. Hey it’s only for one night but my mom has this fear of bed bugs and thinks the more expensive the hotel the least likely the bed bugs. Since she paid for the rental hubby and Hubby & I were responsible for the Hotel, so after reading many reviews and the Mom stamp of approval;) I chose this one. Would I stay here again Most Definitely!!

FYI: Hertz Rental is literally in the parking lot of Residence Inn and Comfort Inn(?-it may be Country Inn I keep getting those 2 mixed up)

Residence Inn: 10/10

Excellent start so far, thank you for taking the time to do this. So happy to hear you had a good time so far because one of your fellow cruisers that week has been making a big stink on these boards about how horrible the Dream was for them post-dry dock. Looking fwd to another POV!

Agree about Residence Inn; we always stay there, and we rent through Hertz as well. Super convenient.

We stayed at the Country Inn and it was really nice, almost everyone on our cruise who stayed overnight was there or at the Residence. Nice places and really convenient for the car rental and some restaurants and the port!

I was on that very same cruise. Wow, what a great time. I don't want to hijack your thread but I am already planning my next Carnival cruise, if that tells you anything. I am glad you had a good time and happy Bday X2.
