Interior or Ocean View

"Worth" is 100% subjective. What is worth it to one isn't to another.

Size of cabin depends on the ship. On many, the OV is the same square footage as an inside (Fantasy class and Spirit class are).

I almost never pay extra for a window. I actually prefer an inside because I love it to be pitch black when I'm sleeping. I've even been known to put a towel along the bottom of the cabin door to keep that sliver of light out.

For me, paying extra for a window is a waste of money. That $80 would go toward the tips or buy a couple of bottles of wine or go into my casino budget.

You decide what is important to you. I'd rather have a midship, lower deck inside cabin than an OV in the bow, under the galley or over the disco.

I couldn't have said it better. Did a b2b on the Fascination (same class as Fantasy) and did an interior room the first week and an ocean view the next week. Same square footage only with a window. Not that big of a deal to me.

I would use the extra money for something else because it wouldn't be worth $80 to me.

My wife is claustrophobic, so we always get at least an oceanview cabin. I think I would miss seeing the ocean from the cabin if we had an inside anyway. To me, $80 is definitely worth it, but everyone's different. I won't pay a premium just to be on a higher deck, so being one deck lower isn't an issue for me.

For me, I would. The only time we had an inside was because at the time, it was that, or nor cruise because of cost. Still look back fondly as one of our favourite cruises, so the inside didn't detract from that.

But as said, what works for me doesn't necessarily work for you.

Again, difference of opinion! I wouldn't pay the extra. I cannot stand seeing the ocean rushing past (makes me nauseated!) and have kept the curtains closed the entire cruise! We love the interior darkness! Cheaper = more cruising!

I'm for the ocean views. There's nothing like seeing the beautiful ocean and scenery when you wake up and looking out on it in the privacy of your own room on sea days. If you'll be on the riviera deck, its more quiet and you have easy access to your room on port days - no waiting for elevators.

As you can tell from the responses so far, it's a personal thing. I really enjoyed our OV on the Valor. It was nice to be able to look out and see the water or the port. But, you have to decide it it's worth the $80 for you. Personally, for $80 I would do it, but that's me.

Right now we are booked in an interior cabin, midship on upper deck. The $80 would be for ocean view, midship, main deck. OR we could go on the R deck for $50. (On Carnival Fantasy.)

This is our first cruise EVER so I don't know what we would like more.

I had an interior stateroom on my first curise and swore (no matter the savings) I would never do it again. Pitch black (which the cabins are day or night) is beyond claustrophobic and having to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night is pretty daunting without totally waking up your cabin mate. I couldn't stand being in that cabin for anything other than changing my clothes and have found, since, that going to a cabin with a window invites me to take the time to sit and relax and read my daily schedule and make plans.

Besides, I have gotten sick on a cruise and had to stay in my cabin for a day. Can't even begin to imagine what that would be like in a black hole.

It is a personal choice. We always go with oceanview or balcony cabins because we love the serenity of looking at the ocean. We don't live anywhere near the ocean so this is a big part of our cruise. If you feel that you would like to be able to look at the ocean, then $80.00 is a great deal.

I agree with several, 80 bucks is good money, that could go to tips, a BV bottle, a shore excursion or in the bank for the next cruise. You signed up for a interior, so it's not like your being sent forcefully to one. We only get interiors, with a young daughter (8), it's bedtime at 8:30/9, so any outside light could keep her up. Plus, we are frugal. And, we are one of those never in the room, I am out of the room at 5, my wife and daughter by 7. On port days we are back at 5PM, eat dinner then almost time for bed. On Sea days I may make it back to the room once before 5PM to refill a flask or something.

Paying more than ya planned? Doesn't make sense to us. And, if you are on Riviera already, ya got the best deck in my mind. Nice and quiet and nice and easy on and off the ship and away from the Lido craziness.

Our first cruise, on one of the sister ships to the fantasy, was in an ocean view. Walking down the corridors I saw for myself that the interior cabins on that class were identical (except for the window) and we took our second (and most of our subsequent) cruises in interior rooms.

We did get some enjoyment from the window. On the lowest deck, we were able to watch as we left port, looking down into the water, and see stingrays swimming, which was thrilling to us midwesterners. But we didn't really use the window very much, so figured we could get along without it.

On the newer classes of ships, where the ocean view cabins are bigger, there are more factors to consider. I love having the sofa for lounging in the cabin, so will pay a modest amount to upgrade to an oceanview. If there were more than 2 of us sharing the cabin, I would also strongly consider an oceanview for the additional space.

Whatever you decide, you'll have a great time!

Go with the Main Deck, the decks below you and above you are passenger decks which means you will have a quite location. Midship is also good because you will feel less motion reducing your chances of sea sickness.

I have done interior, ocean view, cove balcony and regular balcony. I have enjoyed all my cruises. What you need to decide it where do you want to spend your money. A lot of people do not care about their rooms since they will only be sleeping in them. My husband and I on the other hand do spend some time in our room reading, napping, or watching a movie. I enjoy seeing the ocean and when I have a balcony I enjoy sitting outside feeling the breeze.

Interior rooms are very dark at night and it bothers me to not know whether it is daytime or still the middle of the night. I have woken up many a time in an interior room thinking it was 6am when it was really 9am and vice versa. I once did leave the TV on (with no sound) tuned to the live deck camera but it was not anywhere near the same as a window.

Just bear in mind that this being your first cruise will determine what you will do for the rest of your cruises, and you will get hooked! :D If you get an OV for your first, then you probably will not downgrade for your next one (unless you go with a group like me and had to get a room next to my elderly DM). Whatever you do, you will have a wonderful time. Just overlook any minor issues and have a great time. :)

My first cruise was an interior room and while it didn't stop me from have the time of my life, I did wake up several times during the night worried about the time. The OV is going to be just as dark in the middle of the night so going to bathroom will still be an issue, however, you'll know what time it isn't when you look out the window and it's pitch black.

My second cruise was an OV and I loved it. I didn't spend a lot of time in the cabin, obviously, but there's nothing quite like gazing out at the ocean when you first wake up and seeing your port outside your window when you wake up is so exciting - except debarkation day.

My next cruise will have a balcony and even thought it's just a 'baby' balcony and will barely fit one and half people, we will love it.

So, if money is super tight, stay in the interior but if you have $80 to spare, try the OV.

Whichever you choose, have an awesome cruise!!
