What do you do with your luggage before you hve access to your cabin?

On ships that have the FTTF program all Plats can go to their room as soon as you board. Others have stated that it is a perk of being a Plat already while another group says NO and if you go drop off your luggage you are breaking the "rules"...

So as a plat this upcoming cruise I will see what happens.

This was our first plat cruise last week and we just walked to our cabin dropped our back packs off and it seemed to be ready(our Bon Voyage things were their)

The best part for us was 20 minutes from arriving at port to eating a guys burger

Second best was getting my clothes washed (I only used 2 bags not the 3 we are allowed)

Its great to come home and open my suitcases and put clean clothes away :)

We tend to pack light these days, so usually only carry-on a laptop bag and the snorkel bag. This year I am not bringing the laptop so I am hoping for a smaller bag. Since we usually sail in November or December we typically head straight for the sports bar, grab some beers and watch some football. Last year on the Liberty we just went and parked ourselves in the Red Frog Pub area since we are not big college football fans and it was Saturday.

We have divised a plan that works for us. We each have a small rolling suitcase and a carry-on backpack or beach bag...we check nothing on the lane or with a port portor. So 3 people 6 pieces total. W\

We eat a big brunch before boarding to avoid the over crowded loud Lido deck. Once on board I find a lounger on an upper deck above Lido or dependent on weather, a nice inside window seat. I watch all 6 bags and pop open my carry-on wine bottle and crack open a book. Officially vacation begins. The girls go wandering and ship exploring. We avoid Lido on day one until evening dinner at the buffet.

My plan is since Im platinum Im on first before the crowd hits the buffet, I get first crack at it. Good plan to me.

Seriously think about what you are carrying on. Otherwise (even if you do a carry on suitcase for a flight) you can hand that off to a porter to be loaded onto the ship.

All you need in your ship carryon is your docs, meds, swimming suit and sunscreen. Everything can wait til it arrives at your cabin.

You may be right about "all you need", but we also carryon any valuables, cameras, jewelry.

These things are put in the carryon for a reason. Handing them off. Nah!

We will be doing the same except for Guy's... Dream did not get one:( BUT will be eating something after dropping off carry-on with water/wine/etc.

Our routine on boarding is we carry our carry-ons with us to the Lido to eat; after we get done eating, we typical explore the ship and walk around quite a bit. This means that we'll probably be fairly close to our cabin a couple of times--if our cabin has been serviced or the door is closed already, we will drop off our carry on luggage even if it's before the time that they advertise having access to cabins. This typically means we get rid of having to carry that with us before we were technically told we could.

Thanks for the replys. We only use the scanner size, roller type, since we are very light packers. I think we will try the "one watches the two bags while the other fetches" option. Our cruise is coming up soon and I didn't know if there was a corral (sp) or something for temporary parking till cabin access.

This made me laugh since geese do this, I always

see one eating grass while the other one has it's

head up high looking around for predators.

I am so sorry you cannot experience the guys burgers. It may be good for you though I gained 7 pounds this cruise(and we only ate in the MDR twice and I had the indian vegetarian entrees both times).I would assume guys was the culprit lol

Me and hubby alway's go to our cabin first and drop off our thing's,even if it's not done yet,but we make sure to see our steward first to tell him a few thing's,then we tip him a little something and we are on our way to lido to get a bite to eat and do some exploring afterward's.We also make sure none of our stuff are not out in the opening for everyone to see, just in case the steward isn't done yet and we put a lock on it as well. Then by the time we get done eating and exploring we head to our room where we have a complimentary fruit and cheese basket waiting and some extra ice for our complimentary champagne and wine that we brought.

You may want to get that in a printable email from the casino. My $250 in cash was waiting but the fruit and wine basket never showed up in our cabin.I had the email but I refuse to beg the casino host for a $25 fruit basket(that we really dont even eat)

LOL - well you gotta pick ONE and blame it - Good way to think about it for me. I hope to leave with the poundage I came with, hopefully a bit less. I walk some at work (IT) but on the ship I end up walking way more than at home/work.

On Carnival we haul our stuff to the Lido, one sits with it while the other grazes, then we reverse roles. By the time we're done getting lunch for both of us and maybe making a phone call or two it's about time for the rooms to be ready. Not a big deal. On a cruise ship I go with the flow:) m--

Too bad they don't offer folks to drop off their carry-ons in a holding area with an employee. We went on an NCL cruise this past Spring and they offered in one of the lounges a place you can drop off your carry-on and they give you a ticket and put the other ticket on your carry-on. You write your cabin number on it and off you go. As long as you pick up the carry-ons by a certain time, which was shortly after the cabins were ready for everyone.

With this cruise, we will just carry our stuff with us until we can get in our cabin. But then again, we won't arrive from the airport until probably about the time the cabins will be ready.

WOW you must be good ,I never heard of anyone just getting casino comps without contacting them and we usually gamble around $5000 per cruise

We carry our carryon bag with us until it's time to gain access to the cabin. We are Platinum and I have asked John if we can go to the cabin early as Sgt Schultz always posts that it's a platinum benefit.

John said that we should NOT be doing this as the stewards are cleaning cabins etc. I know on Dream the doors are closed but there are many who feel they can just open them and drop off their stuff. John stated that once FTTF is on the ship, we can go to the cabin immediately and that for other ships, they are trying to get the cabins for ALL ready earlier.

Our experience though on the 4 times we have sailed Dream is that the cabins aren't ready until 1:30 and then anyone/everyone can drop off their things.

I will have to see what happens with our November cruise on Dream. Personally, I don't think it's fair that on some ships people don't have to cart their stuff around and on others we are told we have to do so. Either Platinum guests can do it on all ships or none at all. JMO.

Since making Platinum... I normally carry both our carryon bags to the room and DW goes to the Lido, secures a table and orders 2 drinks.;):D

Works for me.

Until then we did the schlep to lido and one sit and watch the other fetch. Being as we normally cruise with friends some one is always at the table watching bags.

First we make sure it is on wheels. Diet Soda and water are heavy but $2.50 a twelve pack is way better than $5.00 minimum for 12 ounces! :D

We go to Lido and sort of "park". We people watch. It sort of sets the mood for us. We eat with one at a time going for food, we drink and we just watch! Usually smiling the whole time! :p
