Had a call last week from Princess and the caller identified himself as our PCS, and followed it up with an email. I think this service is very useful, as if you have a problem or a question, you don't have to go through the whole story talking to a different person every time you ring. A good innovation.

They're good if you don't have a TA you know and trust. The downside is that they can't discount, offer you group fares, OBC and perks. :)

Most agents in the UK all sell at the same price. Occasionally you might get a good offer, but we tend to book direct with Princess as we use our FCC's and shareholding for the OBC's.

You can still use FCCs and get shareholder OBC if you book with a travel agent.

While some have had good experience's with PVP's the ones (3) that we have had contact us have only lasted for a few weeks each before they quit of went to other departments.

I would be a little miffed if I had dialogue with them and then had them dissappear. :(

I've booked "a few" cruises directly with Princess and I've never been in contact with one of their Personal Cruise Specialists. So far I've never had a problem doing it "on my own", nor do I know if I could have gotten any perks from them.

Our upcoming Cruisetour is our first experience with Princess or their CVPs. We went the route of using a CVP because we'd had a good experience with a similar role at a different line. Our experience at Princess has been mixed.

Our first CVP was on the earliest shift, Pacific time, and was difficult for us to reach from Eastern time after work. We then switched to a different CVP who would be available to us in the evening. A few weeks later she changed shifts and became less available. Not that she was easily reachable any time of the day. Every phone call that we made to her went to voicemail, and was not answered for several hours. Emails were dependable, but not exactly prompt. I also got the impression that she was not very knowledgeable.

Our previous experience with the other line was just the opposite. Their representative was always (during his working hours) available by phone or email and was very knowledgeable.

What I fear is that this is an entry level type position hence all the movement. :(

How did you manage that? Was it before or after final payment date?

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Before final payment, but a different promotion than we had booked under. We lost shore excursion credit, and photo credit, got more OBC and a lower price.

We didn't do it, our PCS did :)

Obviously different in the UK than in the USA.

We have had the same contact for over two years, and he is very knowledgable about both itineraries and life onboard.

Our PVP has been with Princess for 9 years and is very knowledgeable.

We got two new FCCs applied to prior bookings without having to cancel and re-book those two bookings (the normal CSRs could no do this).

It's the luck of the draw as for finding a good PCS/PVP or a good TA. I'm happy for those of you who have found someone you can trust and is available for you but I chose to go it alone, do my own bookings and be responsible for my own good/bad decisions. I've not had good experiences and now reluctant to give it another try.

Sure, maybe you can get more on-board credit from an agent but unless someone can recommend and GUARANTEE that I would do better with them than on my own, I'll leave it as it is. And yes, I know that we are not allowed to share that info here on these boards.

I'm with Pam. If you want to book directly with Princess this is the way to go. However, you will get a better price, OBC, etc if you book with a travel agent.

I don't think its different, some are just lucky to have a stable person as do some here in the US as well.
