one thing i am noticing in most of these replies most of the dislikers seem to be from My side of the pond

most of the likers from the american side

is it a cultural thing perhaps?

he appeals to an american audience more than a british maybe?

i guess i will get to see for myself in 2 weeks time

be interesting to actually have a point of view on this debate

From the couple of u-tube videos i can't see me spendign 14 nights watching him but maybe be amusing for a wee half hour?

maybe not :)

I also just left the Eclipse, more's the pity. Sue Denning had not yet arrived. I think the ship just didn't know what hit them at first.

Perry was in great form and played to a packed house every night. many in the audience had booked this cruise to see Perry again. But there were also "virgins" who were addicted after their first time and came very night.

I stopped telling people how much fun he is because I didn't want them taking up seats which were in short supply. Can't imagine how 600 fans will fit in on this next cruise..

I have never seen such a talented performer at sea and would gladly pay to see him at a club in New York.

Perry if you are reading this, Barbara and Barry from Brooklyn thank you again.

No, I am from the US and I have been on several cruises with Perry Grant. I cannot see what people see in him. I have tried a couple times and couldn't last. To me it was like cheap slapstick. - Just my opinion - I went to one show of his in the theater and about 5 to 7 minutes into it, about 1/2 the audience left. That explains it - 1/2 the audience stayed too. He does have a following that decorate their cabin doors, yell for him, pick their cruises because he is on them, and act like "school girls" around him. It doesn't affect us, so I really don't care what the fans do, however, when they start to usurp the enjoyment of others by having other evening venue options cancelled, I will now schedule my cruises on ships I know he is not on.

LOL -he is like a camp Larry Grayson or Dame Edna(:D)....harmless entertainment who 'picks' on members of the audience; he is a good singer - sort of Neil Diamond ol' fashioned sing-alongs. For a Brit it does help if you have had a few drinks before hand (or DH says you should be ver' ver' drunk..) and then just go with the flow.

Seriously you should see him at least once. He does throw himself into it, every night. You have to admire him for that.

Positions Please....

Very well said,our thoughts exactly.

Some like Perry Grant, some like The Walking Dead; some like baseball, some like hockey; some like country music, some like rock.

Not everyone likes Perry, and just because some do not is no reason for him to not be booked on a ship.

How boring the world (or a cruise) would be if we all liked the same things.

Just discovered Perry Grant is on Eclipse. Have been booked on the Eclipse for the past 9 months for the March 9 S Caribbean. Really have not been looking forward to it, but now am very happy to be able to see Perry again. Sailed serveral times on Constellation because of him and really did not like the Constellation, so happy with the change.

Absolutely wrong assumption.

Perry, being British, has a lot of fans from over the pond side. Mostly he appeals to people to has sense of humor and like to have a laugh, listening to a good music...

We are off the Eclipse today. We are dancers and were very disappointed to find the Sky Lounge occupied nearly every night by either Perry Grant or a private party. About the only dancing we found was in the foyer, which is terribly inadequate for dancing.

While I enjoyed the Eclipse the lack of suitable dance floors would prevent us from sailing her again. We have enjoyed WOODEN dance floors on most of the other ships we have sailed along with a variety of dance music in different locations in the evening. This did not exist on this sailing.

I was on the Equinox last Spring and found vertually only 2 dance areas. One was the disco which was usually empty and an open area on deck 5 (I believe) with a 3-4 piece band playing very conservative music. The dance floor was occupied every nite by a "Fred Astaire" couple that swept across the dance floor every nite. It was lovely to watch for about 5 minutes; but my point is that there iwas very limited dance areas & other music venues for dancing on the Equinox. I will experience the Eclipse 4 wks from now & check out the dance areas. As a single traveller, I am usually limited to the disco which of can be fun if there are other singles present; but usually this is not the case.

As far as Perry is concerned, if he has biting humor & engages his audience, I feel that is a combo that I feel compelled to explore. One needs to be open to experience new types of entertainment; the option is quite simple really: Move on if he is not your "cup of tea". Sailormateforyou

I have been on the Connie with Perry for 2 cruises. I was just curious at first, but then I got hooked and went every night to see him.

He is a wonderful entertainer and he makes me laugh myself sick.

I will be on the Eclipse in 3 weeks and can't wait to see him perform.

But...I really wish he would get some new material.

Yesterday, I just came off the Eclipse's 2 week sailing and Perry Grant was indeed in the Sky Lounge. Personally, I didn't think this was the right venue for his show since it is a huge room, much too large for the atmosphere needed for his show. I saw him several times during the second week and I didn't think the room was packed at all. He had put the chairs close to his piano to try and give it that intimate feeling but it didn't work for me. Also, and this is no fault of his, the nights that I was there the audience members he picked just didn't click - and he feeds off these people for humour. When he asked about their bedrooms, granite counter tops, # of bathroom sinks... it was getting boring. The second night it totally bored me. His singing was good though and several people did get up to dance.

Sue Denning came on board mid-sailing. The Eclipse celebrated its 100th sailing and we had a bit of a festive evening where the captain cut a large cake and there was dancing. Sue Denning was there dressed in a lovely red gown, and it was so nice to see her big smile again. She will be a huge positive addition to the Eclipse. The only complaint everyone had about the Eclipse was the poor entertainment - almost all the shows were dreadful.

As for the cruise - the ship was incredible; clean, shining and beautiful. The food was absolutely wonderful, we never had a bad meal. The alternative restaurants were great, but the main dining room was so good that there was no real need for the specialty restaurants. The days were picture perfect - absolutely a wonderful two week sailing. But best of all are the passengers - everyone is just so nice and wants to have fun, no bitching and no pool chair hog problems.

And lastly, the elite cocktail coupons, in my opinion, worked perfectly. We sat at the Martini Bar every single night and I have never met so many great people at the bar where everyone was happy and mingling. Never ever did I see mingling like this upstairs on the happy hours, so I hope Celebrity considers changing to the coupons on all their sailings.

We have done this sailing for the last 4 years and are already booked for next Jan. 25th.

Dear Ruthk

Could not agree more! All those coupon naysayers..try it before you knock it...I was hugely disappointed when we were advised that on our TA this past December that there would be coupons..BUT WE LOVED THEM..only hope we get them on our April 6th Eclipe sailing.

Which shows did you like? Our group found all except the Elton John impersonator entertaining.

Hi RuthK,

Thank you for your comments. Glad to hear that Sue Denning is onboard Eclipse. She's the best. I wish there was a better solution for Perry on the Solstice Class ships, but I've examined this upwards, backwards, and every other way.... and the only venue I can see working for Perry on the S-Class, is the Sky Lounge.

While I totally love nearly all aspects of the S-Class ships, I will never understand Celebrity's lack of creative vision on the odd, L-shaped design of Michael's Club. It's been a disappointment to many Celebrity fans since day 1 of Solstice. We all knew it, and yet ? they built 4 more Michael's the same way. I give Celebrity a pass for Solstice, but must give them a Fail, for repeating the mistake 4 times. What they should have considered, was taking some of the huge amounts of wasted space in the areas surrounding Michael's Club, the Ensemble Lounge, and the hallway connecting the Specialty Restaurants... and put it all to MUCH better use. I've designed offices from raw space twice in my career, and earned huge accolades for it. Sadly, nobody at Celebrity envisioned what I see, and what could have been, in a fantastic (and enlarged) Michael's Club, but it's not meant to be.

IMO, the best solution, is for Constellation to return to longer sailings, and have Perry return to his "home" (or if need be - another M-Class ship), though I have no idea if it's feasible at this point. Though it's early, from all indications, Perry is very happy on Eclipse, and may not have an interest in returning to Connie, even with an ideal itinerary. Only Perry & Celebrity can answer such questions. With that said, I hope the opportunity presents itself, when the 2014/2015 itineraries are announced in March & April.

When Celebrity creates their next Class of ships, I truly hope they design a slightly larger version of the M-Class Michael's. It's a classic, and would likely make their Guests extremely pleased.

Hi Isabella and Host Andy,

You are both so very correct on your observations. Never were there people in the Cellar Master and I didn't see anyone in Michaels. They also had a disco nightclub past the casino and never where there people in there either. We ate in Qsine and Murano because they were offering it at 1/2 price - food was excellent, but the main dining room had excellent food during our cruise also. The first formal night we decided to opt out of getting dressed up and ate at the Bistro on Five and we were the only ones in there. The 2 wk southern Caribbean is an older crowd and someone said the average age was 73, which I could believe. The passengers were all great and everyone was happy. The one thing I did notice is that the formal nights were much more formal than when the Constellation did this itinerary. I loved the Connie and did miss her, but must say, after a couple of days I loved the Eclipse and especially how quickly you could get to where you were going because of the elavator locations and everything seemed so central. I would also add that most people congregated for dancing around the 3rd Floor with people watching from several floors above. The most popular bar seemed to be the Martini Bar. The casino was also very active. As for the entertainment it was not very good and if you looked around there were many people nodding off - even during that Cirque-type performance. We love this itinerary and sail it every year at the end of January and are already booked for next Jan.25.

Sorry to all the Perry fans but I'm not happy about this. I am not a Perry fan and we've always enjoyed listening to, and dancing a little, with the Party Band up in the Sky lounge several nights on our cruises. If Perry is taking over that lounge it might be good for the Perry fans but bad for others who do not like his unusual form of entertainment.

I agree!!!!!!!!

Our sailing had so many Elites that they did not have a place for all of us - I heard there were 700 Elites. What they did instead of a cocktail lounge was that every evening as they did turndown service we received 6 coupons in total for free drinks for the next day. These coupons were only good between 5-7pm at most of the bars (exeption was molecular bar; Cellar Master and a third one I can't remember). We found the Martini Bar to be the most popular and everyone mingled and it was relaxed and fun. I would definitely say there was much more mingling going on with the coupons at a bar then going upstairs and sitting down and people watching. I, for one, hope they look into the coupons on a continual basis.

Also I had heard that all the Michael's Clubs will be changing but I have no more details on that. Also someone told me that they were talking to a head office person who said that Celebity is working on revamping the requirements for Elite or taking it to a higher level.

We love to attend piano bars... if the entertainer is good. We have thoroughly enjoyed two of these entertainers.. JP Nadeau on a HAL cruise, and Perry on the Connie. We were spoiled by both of them.. so much so that we are targeting our next cruise on the Eclipse so we can see Perry again.

We look forward to his voice, his choice of music and his audience interaction... not crass at all.. just plain fun!!!

See you soon Perry! Positions please!

I am having my NEW granite countertops, built-in microwave, and stainless steel appliances installed NOW! :D :p :o

Still have my formica...might get sprayed again :) :p

Perry is definately not for everyone but he sure is for me. I haven't laughed that much in a long time, or stayed up that late on a cruise. We were introduced to him last Feb on Connie and he saved the entertainment experience for me on the ship. Looking forward to it!! I knew he was concerned about the size of Michael's Club on Eclipse (being smaller than on Connie) so I guess that is why he is in a larger venue.

I would expect those who love to dance will have the opportunity.

Maybe X should move CellarMasters into Michael's club - since it is almost empty every night and convert CellarMaster into a lounge with a piano...just a thought..........;)

Please, PLEASE, *P*L*E*A*S*E* submit your resume to Celebrity...

Your common sense, logic, and customer awareness skills are OBVIOUSLY severely lacking at their Corporate HQ and you would be of great benefit to the company!

(Could you get them to fix the music while you're there?!?)
