turquoise 6 Posted February 11, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 11, 2013 I have heard that when the QM2,QV,&Queen Elizabeth are in port, there are individuals and groups invited to Lunch before sailing. I know that a Cunard travel specialist ,on board the QM2 has invited former passengers to lunches while in port in Brooklyn. Does anyone know how one can get an invite to this luncheon?

Often, these invitations are NOT for the line you usually book, but for one the TA thinks you might like to try.
Jimsgirl Posted February 11, 2013 #4 Share Posted February 11, 2013 The lunches in the MDR, on the day of disembarking/embarking , are usually for travel agents, media travel writers . The menu is upscale from the normal fare, in order to impress , if you are on board, you will read that the MDR is closed for lunch, however I have found that if you are doing a back to back, a quiet word with the Maitre D' will sometimes result in you being allowed to dine in MDR rather than going to the buffet. I have no knowledge of how you could get to this lunch if you were not already doing a B2B.
Ab Ovo Posted February 11, 2013 #5 Share Posted February 11, 2013 Sometimes Cunard charters out a Grill Room for a "special event" lunch when a ship is in port. CBS Sports has done this. As has NBC news. Too, Cunard itself has done "fam trips" for invited media and travel agents it wants to court. All going on board have been vetted by the organizing group. These may be the lunches you've heard of. It is tougher these days, but a really good NYC travel agent doing good business with Cunard can board, with you in tow. Especially when as in showing off high-end suites to clients for selection for future cruises. Yes, the ship sales staff/travel specialists on board can invite people on. And do. Too, some senior staff can get people on; it's not a luncheon, but you can wander the ship and use dinning open for those in transit. Know anybody on ship? E-mail them and ask. I once was on with the parents of a ship printer! As with much of the world, it's not the done thing, going on a Cunarder until "last call" just because she's in town. But it can be done. MCC retired Posted February 11, 2013 #6 Share Posted February 11, 2013 TA's are often invited to onboard luncheon/ship inspections by their Cunard Sales Reps . Often they may allow the TA's to their invite potentional Group Leader clients. Been there , done that many times when I was a TA. If you have a that TA books Cunard regularly, let them know that you are interested.
rubrrick Posted February 12, 2013 #7 Share Posted February 12, 2013 I have done the same with Royal Caribbean and Celebrity. I would guess that it's more of "who you know" than what you know. If you are a frequent traveler with a certain TA or cruise line, ask the TA or cruise representative for a tour, and hopefully lunch will be included. And, yes, when lunch is included.......it's above average!!:) Rick
