Buffet

During the first two days of every cruise everything is served to you at the Lido. That's when the ship is under Code Orange, and they are trying to minimize person to person contact.

After that, there are many foods which are self-service, but the hot foods are still served to order.

Most is a full buffet (other than the first 48 hours). Parts are not - sandwiches are made to order - omelet station is made to order - that type of thing.

It just makes it better as it is HOW YOU want it:D

pizzaAnd salads were all self service after 488 hours as we're the pastries. The hot foods and sandwiches as well as burgers were served. Very sensible. All too often I have seen people lick their hands and then grab a serving spoon. They don't see any issues with that. I much prefer how HAL does things

On the Zuiderdam I remember we had egg omelets for breakfast one morning that we selected what went into it and was cooked to order for us. We mostly ate in the MDR, so not sure what else there was.

HAL also makes the waffles and pancakes at breakfast (besides the omelets, eggs benedict) . After the first 48 hours, the roles, breads, fruits, cereals (hot and cold).

At lunch time there is roasted chicken some days, carved beef, etc. that the cooks place on the places for you along with various sides like mashed potatoes, green beans -- lots of varities of vegetables. The pasta area is never self service as they prepare those dishes individually -- some thing in the Asian area.

Just some examples listed above.

There is lots of variety on HAL ships.
