Another year and again through the cruise critic forums I have been able to see next years itineries for RCI, Princess, Celebrity and Cunard. P and O need to keep up with the others or they will miss out. Those still working need to plan ahead to book leave and budget accordingly. It seems P and O just do not care as certainly in the UK it pays to book early with RCI and Celebrity as this year there fares have only gone up for peak season sailings.:confused:

Could you tell me where you saw the Celebrity itinerary? I haven't been able to find it.

 

Followed the advice of someone on a Celebrity thread. Internet searched Celebrity Europe 2014 itineries and it flagged up the eskimo house website which had Eclipse and Infinity from the UK.

Tell you what though, there is only one 17 day cruise there - all the others are 14 or less

I see Queen Elizabeth is based in the eastern med for a large proportion of the summer. I wonder why P&O don't base a ship there as 17+ days from southampton must restrict the number of potential cutomers. Or maybe Carnival just think use our other mid market line Princess?

I'd love to be proved wrong, but I think that not having P&O and Cunard competing too closely with each other is a part of it. Especially as P&O would appear to have ships more suited to this: Oceana if you want to be cautious, or Ventura if you reckon it's a winner.

Yes, I was thinking the hot summer holiday crowd, especially families, would find Cunard a bit too formal. Or it could be that cunard is aimed at the american fly cruise market.

 

I still wonder if P&O are missing out somewhere with so many sea days to get to the hot areas, nine days at sea if you want to get to the adriatic.

 

I would have thought that with times being hard there would be more empahsis on shorter cruises rather than the longer voyages.

 

Ventura does not appear on the 2014 Gibraltar port schedule. Perhaps she is doing the baltic etc for which she is more suited than Azura because of her covered pool. Then of course you would have the least formal ship cruising in the most formal area. Perhaps they might swop the Ventura/Azura dress codes :)

I'm delighted that Cunard are putting the Queen Elizabeth in the med for ugh summer fly cruises..about time, I can't wait...personally cruises over 14 days aren't for me, it costs too much in kennel and Cattery fees on our return for one thing! P&O have lots of ships which they can't fill unless they give knock down prices, I'm sure a ship based in the med would be popular..a lots of us are fed up with their ships going to exactly the same places year in, year out!

I have to say we really enjoyed our 17 night cruise to Venice on Ventura in 2011. We had calls at Malaga (1/2 day), Cephalonia, Dubrovnik, Venice (two days), Korcula, Corfu, and Vigo, and 8 1/2 days at sea. What was best about it was that after embarking, crashing & decompressing, then coming round a couple of days later, there were still two weeks left! Wonderful feeling.

 

But I take the point about the cost - that was stretching things a bit for us. And I think we discussed the changes to the 2013 programme a couple of months ago - P&O had replaced several 12 to 14 night cruises with a succession of 2 and 3 night ones.

It looks as if in some cases a 14-nighter and a 7-nighter on QE in the Med can be combined. Of course, you've got to not mind the flying...

Yes Tom, don't do flying any more. Happy to have sea days at the beginning and end of the cruise. It's part of the enjoyment for me.

We will be booking our 2/3 cruises again. We have some deposits to use up:rolleyes: not that we need the excuse.

 

I want to do a back to back. Arriving back in Southampton and not having to get off is sheer bliss. :cool:

Ventura is not calling in Gibraltar in 2014 because she is based in the med and not in Southampton, as far as I am concerned a very bad idea.

Very much dissagree; itis the best thing P&O have done for years. It opens up Venice and other ports in that area without the long voyage from Southampton.
