Breaking New Ground with the Breakaway!! (Pictorial Review!)

Okay, let's get the heck out of the room and check out the Haven! The Haven bar (we'd find ourselves here daily!):

Note the tables set up for dining. We usually ate out here most mornings and afternoons...hence I didn't get pictures of the Haven restaurant itself. It's a smallish restaurant found to the left of the bar.

The Haven Courtyard (the artwork on the second level has been finished!):

Comfy seats...great for reading and napping!

On to some of the restaurants...killing two birds with one stone here...the Cruise Critic Meet and Greet at Cagney's (amazing turnout!):

Cagney's neighbor, Moderno:

Entrance to Le Bistro:

"Outside seating" for Le Bistro. At first glance I liked that the decor resembled a real French Bistro...but when offered those seats for dinner, we all agreed that we didn't want to dine in the hall. I do think that they could do something fun with that space in the afternoon. Offer baguettes with cheeses...a crepe station...something.

From the other side...notice that the door is opening into the hall! There were several times that we couldn't get into the room because we were pushing on the door!

Won't the door opening INTO the hall be a problem for people walking down the hall? I can see it now, people being hit by doors being opened as they're walking!

No, it's fine. The doorways are recessed (which actually makes the halls feel wider). Unfortunately I don't have a picture of the hallway.

Thinking about this just reminded me that our balcony cabin had a doorbell! I've only seen this on suites previously.

Restaurants continued...

For some reason they split up the Asian themed restaurants. Teppanyaki is all by itself on deck six, Wasabi (the sushi restaurant) is on deck eight with Ocean Blue and the Raw Bar (although Wasabi is not affiliated with either) and the noodle bar, Shanghai, is on deck seven crammed next to the casino.

The view of Shanghai's from the casino:

Granted it's not in the smoking section of the casino, but I don't think the slot bells ringing will add to the atmosphere.

Ocean Blue, the Raw Bar and Wasabi nestled on deck eight:

They were filming everywhere on this voyage (in fact we were told that one of the things being filmed was another episode of Mighty Ships!!!)...

Hi Cubechick,

Wonderful review--can you please confirm if there is a pull-down bunk in the smaller bedroom--looks like it in the pic, can't tell from the floorplan. Thanks!

Yes, there is. :)

I will post more after work (boo). :)

Thanks for the photos and info. I will be on Breakaway in three days, leaving May 12th.

My husband really wanted to try a newer ship. I am undecided because I usually go for the tried and true! So we shall see.

This is extremely surprising to here. I thought almost all building codes required doors open in- that way someone can't barricade the door from the outside and trap you. Guess that doesn't apply to ships- but I'm paranoid, it would terrify me to have an outward opening door.

Thank you very much for your review and pictures.

Looking at Tappenaki, it looks like the table holds 8. I've been asking

this question about how many it holds since our family of 10 would

like to do this the first night. Many said that TAppenaki holds

10 at a table, but maybe it was on other ships. Does it look like

the table is for 8 or am I missing two place settings? If it is 8, do you think

I should book 5 and 5 and ask to be seated together at two separate connecting

tables or book for 10 and have us split up 8 and 2 although the 2 won't eat at the

same time since one chef cooks at a time.

Can anyone please give me some insight on what they would suggest.

Thank you.

Hey JS....

Book it for 10.... based on my past experience they will accomodate you. We were on the Gem, 3 of us, and we wanted to eat there but it was fully booked. The HD said he would take care of it and get us in and he did. He made them add extra settings to the table. So it was a bit cramped but worked out fine... especially since the whole group will be your group being cramped.

sorry, yes the HC cabin is 12910. I was looking at my confirmation instead.

We are booked in 12910 next year! Was a toss up between this and a spa balcony.... Always wanted an Aft, so this sailing was a perfect opportunity, and a great room.
