Kiwi Kruzer Posted July 18, 2013 #183 Share Posted July 18, 2013 It looks like they are not visiting Thorshavn, Faroe Islands today It will be interesting to see what the blogs say to why they missed Thorshavn from Westbury Travels Blog.... Faroe Islands NO GO! We arrived in the bay off the port at Torshavn just before 8.00a.m. but captain made a decision not to go into the port. Tried to anchor but no good! Even if we did anchor OK he said it was too rough to have tenders take all the passengers in. It was blowing around 37 knots and blowing us into the port and he couldn't safely get the ship into such a small port with such high winds. It was 11 degrees and you could hardly see anything, very pea soupy!!! Captain Bill said the ship and passengers were his first priority and safety paramount (thank god for that!d)- so we will now be 7 days at sea!! BOO WHOOO!! The fog horns are going off about every 3 minutes. Was so looking forward to seeing some of the Faroe Islands
Fletch1 Posted July 19, 2013 #184 Share Posted July 19, 2013 On their way to Thorshavn, Faroe Islands: Has anyone here been to or heard of Thorshavn before?? This must be a new stop for Princess We were in Thorshaven last year on the Crown Princess....lovely place and we did a local tour on a sail ship around the local bay. Don't agree with their annual slaughter of dolphins in the bay though.....very nasty if see it on youtube.
Impressionists Posted July 19, 2013 #185 Share Posted July 19, 2013 On their way to Thorshavn, Faroe Islands: Has anyone here been to or heard of Thorshavn before?? This must be a new stop for Princess This is not a new stop for Princess. We docked there in 2007 on the Grand while on the Viking cruise. Very interesting place. Loved the houses with sod roofs. they also had lovely botanical gardens, cruised to Iceland, Greenland (had to miss Newfoundland due to tail end of hurricane) then onto New York. The weather in the North Atlantic can get very choppy but by now everyone who sailed from Sydney should be 'old salts'. Regards Lorri H.
