dziorns Posted May 20, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 20, 2013 I heard Carnival did away with the sushi bar on Dream? Is this true?? I always look forward to sushi at 5Pm on all my Carnival cruises!
FireEater Posted May 20, 2013 #2 Share Posted May 20, 2013 Yes it went away. Read a review yesterday from a family who just came back. I am booked on it in September, I was hoping it was still there....o-well....

spencercoop Posted May 20, 2013 #5 Share Posted May 20, 2013 The ships that don't have sushi bars anymore are still supposed to have sushi up on the lido deck.

maggieworkman Posted May 20, 2013 #7 Share Posted May 20, 2013 It has become the "taste bar" where they have samples of items from their pay restaurants. There is supposed to be sushi on the lido buffet in the evenings to replace it. Maggie

bobsfamily Posted May 20, 2013 #10 Share Posted May 20, 2013 Dream had the "taste bar" last Nov. and would much rather have the sushi bar back... there was sushi on Lido deck but you best be quick. It seems that the taste bar is on ships that have for pay restaurants. They are "showcasing" something available from the steakhouse each night... and some of it can be strange! I understand all Fantasy class ships still have sushi...
spencercoop Posted May 20, 2013 #11 Share Posted May 20, 2013 The Taste Bar is on the following ships, which means that the sushi is up on the Lido deck. Carnival Breeze , Carnival Conquest, Carnival Dream, Carnival Glory, Carnival Imagination, Carnival Inspiration, Carnival Legend, Carnival Liberty, Carnival Magic, Carnival Miracle, Carnival Sensation, Carnival Sunshine and Carnival Triumph. CanWeGoYet? Posted May 21, 2013 #12 Share Posted May 21, 2013 Even though the Inspiration has no steakhouse or other pay option dining venue, they still got rid of the sushi bar. It was a taste bar for a restaurant that was not on the ship (blue iguana cantina). There was a small station for sushi at the lido, but it was not available for long at all. I think I made it to the spot it was served once during a back 2 back when it was out and available to be served.

Elmo31 Posted May 21, 2013 #15 Share Posted May 21, 2013 Each day the taste bar showcases sample appitizers from different places on the ship. I don't care for sushi so I'm excited to try the taste bar. For your sunshine lover's it should be on the lido buffet.

Actually it is available for an hour longer at the buffet than when it was at the sushi bar.
CanWeGoYet? Posted May 21, 2013 #18 Share Posted May 21, 2013 Rosefloater I must have gone too early. I always have late dining, so maybe that was the time it was available. In the past when there was a sushi bar, I would stop by when it first opened around 5. I don't think it was being served at that hour on my last cruise. It also seemed to be the people wanting to be a chef in the steakhouse as they were very exact in what they did with someone overseeing them. dziorns Posted May 21, 2013 Author #22 Share Posted May 21, 2013 OK, so sushi is now on the lido buffet. Are they making it fresh to order like they did at the sushi bar? And what about sake?? I so enjoyed my evening sushi and sake on the promenade deck while hubby played in the casino before dinner! And the sushi was always good! Oh, well, no use crying over spilt milk.. I'm going on a cruise!!! :D
jules1121 Posted May 21, 2013 #23 Share Posted May 21, 2013 I was on the Sensation at the end of Feb and they had replaced the Sushi bar with a Taste Bar . I def. preferred the sushi bar! But I did get some good sushi rolls at lunch in the main dining room on the sea day on that cruise at least (we did the behind the fun tour so we saw them making it and we made a bee line there after the tour) :). Oh, well, no use crying over spilt milk.. I'm going on a cruise!!! :D The sushi was never made fresh to order. It was rolled/prepared beforehand in one of the kitchens and then rolled out in a multi-tray cart to the sushi bar. It was only plated to order. There is no sake at the buffet. Sake might be at one of the bars. You can still get the sushi upstairs and then go down to the promenade area to eat it.
JawjaFatBoy Posted May 22, 2013 #25 Share Posted May 22, 2013 We were on the Fascination last December and they still had the sushi bar, but we wound up eating more from the station that was set up in the Lido deck buffet. Same selection, but you could get several pieces without having to go back through the line! I was disappointed to find out that there was no sushi bar on the Liberty for our cruise this December, but as long as they have it at the buffet I will manage nicely!:D
