Sunshine cruise cancelled

No wonder they're bringing contractors onboard. Obviously still plenty of work to do...

The Casino is on deck 5, must have looked like something from the Poseidon Adventure for rain water to have come in through the ceiling. ;)

LOL

Either way... they obviously were pushing it (the makeover) too close to the wire and got caught with their pants down.

Tom

Pretty shocking , one would think that with all the issues / pr that they were going thru they would have realy hit a " home run " with this retro fit

I know the make over / rebuild was pretty extensive , not sure if something was done like this before ... But to sail with that many issues ??

I was thinking that it was basic cc drama and it wasn that bad

But as now there are three sailings , we get some real info vs the whiners and cheer leaders

Sad really

On top of that, it was reported that water came pouring in from the ceiling of the casino a couple hours after a heavy rain. Does not look picturesque to me!!"

Ah with you. Maybe it's on the face page. I will post and see if anyone replies.

Though many times... you get what you pay for...

True but think this shipyard has built quite a few ships for Carnival with good results.

Someone who was part of the building team made quite a few posts on CC and management of the yard was apparently out to lunch for this entire project.

Would have thought that Carnival would have had more clout with them to make them do the work properly.

Which shipyard was it?

Interesting that there were reports during the work that they were not giving 100%. I had not been following reports during the dry dock.

This was certainly a BIG undertaking. Many things that could go wrong if not executed with precision...

Believe it was fincateiri. Was an incredible series of posts by a fellow that worked at the shipyard detailing what was going on.

Wish I saved it.

We were a group of 6 meant to be sailing on the sunshine on the 7th. The worst part for us was that when we tried to phone Carnival to find out about compensation, we were told by many staff that Carnival would never phone passengers to cancel like this, and that we had been involved in some sort of scam. Obviously we were a bit dubious about this but they seemed so confident that we actually got our hopes up. Then we were told for the second time that it was in fact cancelled. Poor customer service on all fronts!

Very interesting - thanks! (I missed all the "fun" apparently)!

Tom

unfortunely, the "fun" lives on for those having to endure this ship. their stories are eyeopening. the lucky ones seem to be those continuing to be bumped off the ship in order to house the emergency repair crews.

Apparently the shipyard doing the work raised incompetence to new levels.

I don't think it was incompetence at all. If anything, some of those contractors were VERY competent.... in their criminal behavior.

Posted by someone else in another thread. Very interesting read.

Just saw that someone else posted the link before I finished reading :)

Looks like that thread has recently been CLOSED.. and trimmed a bit.

Gailjen,

These are NOT my opinions, these are texts and a call that I received from a friend that is currently on the Sunshine. We were both originally on the Apr 24th sailing of the Sunshine before our cruise was cancelled. My friend rescheduled for the May 26th cruise and I rescheduled for the Oct 11th cruise. She has been texting me and called me once from Italy briefly about the conditions that she has personally witnessed. Her cabin has had no problems, but all that have been in her tour groups have reported the problems that I have listed. The last post I received from her was about the water coming in from the ceiling over the Casino. She will write a complete review upon her return, and I am waiting until I can talk to her in length before I cancel my Oct 11th cruise on the Sunshine.

Since that yard has done a lot of good work for Carnival, I wonder who was behind the sabotage.

Probably some of the sub-contractors. Maybe they were getting shorted and wanted more. Well, the easiest way to get more (if you can get away with it) is to wreck stuff and then have to do it again or bring more of it.

Thanks for the reply, look forward to reading the report when they come back., would be interested if she could post which third of the cabins are ok as at the moment there are plenty of rooms I can move to.

Probably not until late next year or in spring of 2015 but I can't wait to go on the Sunshine. Take away the issues due to it not being 100% ready to sail due to sabotage, and everything sounds like a great time and that she is a great ship.

ya might have to be a littlke quicker than that. last time carnival tried being new and innovative and renamed their own ship (fiesta marina), it was sold within a ywar. and it wasn't even listing.

I am on the same sailing as Gail. I look forward to reading your friends report. We still have 7 weeks to D day, but time is running out and they don't appear to be getting through all of the problems very quickly. We will be on deck 8 forward and there aren't many cabins that we can move to, unless we go to 2. Fingers crossed deck 8 is okay.
