4-27-13 8 day Breeze review- a bed, my birthday and leisure sickness

Recommended Posts

That's what I'm wondering as well.

Did they somehow know there was a "bug" problem in that room (maybe from the previous sailing) and sought to relocate the OP without quite letting on what was realling going on?

I'm thinking bed bugs were discovered when the steward was turning the room after the previous guest vacated.

Perhaps they try to pass it off as just "a (nondescript) bug found in your suitcase" and just get you out of there ASAP and give you free laundry service so you can't blame the cruise line if the room really did have bedbugs.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Carnival is not exactly known for upgrading, especially over a single bug. Had you gone and complained about the bug you would have probably gotten the run around and very little resolution.

I'm guessing bed bugs were discovered in this cabin from the previous cruise, and a deep cleaning and bug spraying were required. Sort of pathetic they blamed it on you, as who was observing your bag in the first place to notice the bug and how could they be sure it came from your bag. Sounds very odd, but no doubt a great way for Carnival to make it look like they were doing you a huge favor.

I loved the piano bar and DH said he would come for a few minutes with me to piano bar, even though he insisted he did not think he would enjoy it, it was not his thing. But first he insisted we go back to the room.

DH had them decorate the room while we were at dinner. I was surprised. We then went to the piano bar. I had my tiramisu martini. My husband enjoyed himself, after an hour he said he was going to the pub. He was back a few minutes later, he hit the 15 drink limit on cheers. After 15 they will not serve you nor allow you to purchase a drink. I understand the reasoning, but would think they would then cut everyone off after 15 drinks.

Anyway after a while we went to bed. What a great birthday.

Loving your review!

It's clear they had a bug problem before and ZOMG IS THAT A BUG ON YOUR CARRYON tried to blame it on you while they "checked it out".

What I love, however, is that in this age of people running into their cabins and wiping everything down with Lysol wipes and checking their mattresses out with portable black lights you guys were like #bqhatevr and went and got a burger.

I think I love you guys.

I love that you eat separately, no problem, and are totally into bingo.

Carry on. :)

Thanks for the feedback, it is nice to know people are viewing it.

So after the sail away and drinks at Red Frog Pub and maintenance was in our room waiting for us. Oh no, we just got here what could we have done?

They showed us a bug that they put in a glass and covered to show us. They said it came from my husband's carry on. Before I could even say anything the maintenance officer (I don't know if that is the correct title) whose name was Rosa, who was great, said that everytime this happened people got upset and said it was not their bug, so I didn't bother. They said they were going to check out the room and requested we come back in an hour.

We went to the Taste Bar, I planned on going every night they were open, but this was the only night I made it. I had the meatball and bruschetta with ricotta cheese, they were good, the meatball was a little spicy. We went to the casino, I like to gamble mostly the slots and roulette once or twice during the week, it is my husband's favorite bar, because he can smoke there. I have also noted most of our favorite bartenders have been at casino bars.

We return to the room, they say we need to wait for our luggage, still not there, FTTF would have been a good idea here. We were to call them when it arrived and we would dump everything on the white sheets to see if there were any more freeloaders.

We normally eat about half of our dinners together, I like people to bring me shrimp cocktail and steak and he wants to stand and eat a sandwich at 10 at night, we eat together half the time and enjoy our dinners together much better. This was one of the nights where I was dining solo, originally I was debating between the dining room and Bonsai Sushi, well it was about 7:30 and no luggage, I was going to the buffet and when I got back DH was going to take his turn, but for liquid refreshment.

When I got back Rosa was there, they were going through all of our clothes, no new friends. They were going to take all of our clothes and suitcases and have them sent to the laundry and washed for free, just in case. Ok, but it would have been better at the end of the cruise so I did not have to do all the laundry when I got home.

We were told to gather clothes and they gave us a clear plastic bag, they were moving us to another room for the night. It was on the 7th floor, it was an upgraded room, plus it was right outside the midship elevators. We then had to go to guest services and get a new card, they put the cheers card on the cards and told us they emailed the spa and they would give us new stickers when we went there.

We are huge bingo players, DH more than mine, I scheduled a massage on the Glory and he said, but its during bingo. I like Bingo, but not as much as I like a massage. Bingo was at 9:30 and at this point it was after 9, we skipped bingo and went to the casino for drinks and slots. We went back to the room on 7 (7343) and went to sleep, it was a long day, we got up at 6 for all the flights and other traveling.

I often have time sleeping, but that is one of the things I love most about cruises, it is the best sleep, I feel like someone is rocking me to sleep. DH said I was out after 30 seconds. Next Day 2-Sea Day.

Regarding the bit that I highlighted in red: I could not imagine dumping all of my clothes out of my suitcase and onto the bed for strangers to rummage through, especially with myself not being present. For a fact, though, I would never let them launder my clothes on the ship, as many of my items require hand-washing and line-drying. My instinct tells me that they found bedbugs in the room before you occupied it, and they tried to insinuate that YOU brought the bugs onboard ( in your carry-on) to deflect blame from Carnival and thwart any rumor of bedbugs being on the ship.

LOL, I was thinking this very thing. I wash most of my clothing in the machine in Woolite but line dry most everything (even T shirts).

The dryer shrinks, twists, and basically beats up your clothing.

In the face of bed bugs, though, I guess I'm not sure what I'd do.

Op, loving your review, though! You have a very positive attitude!

This was a wonderful surprise that your husband gave you. I am wondering, though, who was the piano bar singer on this cruise? I apologize if you already mentioned this, but I missed it. Thanks.

I love your review, and the pics are great. Can't wait for tomorrow for more, thanks for sharing.

I actually had never heard of the cheers program before reading your post. Did you feel it really was worth it on port days?

Ron Pass, I think if he is still on the Breeze he is not going to be there much longer. He has quite a following.

Ron finished up last week. He's in Idaho now - at the Clark House.

I think it depends on what you like to drink and how much. I drink martinis and most of the drinks I had were $8.75, so 5 drinks you break even and six you are ahead, it also includes soft drinks, and normally at the slot machines or after I was done drinking I would have a coke, so at $1.95 that would also add to the total.

I also think it depends on the ports. I would not do it for Europe where you are often on excursions from 8-8, except for Curacao, we were back on the ship around 2 if not before. If you go to bed at 10, that's 8 hours and a drink an hour is not a lot, and you would come out ahead.

But the other thing you have to consider are the exclusions, the martini tasting, the wine from the machine in the library bar, buckets of beer, shareable drinks, any drink over $10, wine or the special margarita at Blue Iguana.

It is a big hit to the sail and sign at once, but if you feel like you would spend the money anyway, it is good to budget it in.

I am getting my breakfast burrito and arepa:

Thank you for posting the arepa picture! I've been trying to find a recipe for it and have failed. They were soooo good.

I liked them too, plus food always tastes better when someone else cooks it for me and does the dishes.

I really do not understand people! Why would a parent let their kids run wild on a cruise ship or for that matter anywhere!!!! Nothing makes me madder then bad kid behavior!!!

Sounds like you had a great vacation and I like your writing style!

These are the same parents that let their kids run around the grocery store, and don't you know they always complain when you hit their kids with the grocery cart!

This is my biggest pet peeve on the ships.......some parents take no responsibility for controlling their kids.....I don't dislike children but I don't want them bumping into me while they are making themselves dizzy going round and round on the dance floor.

Why do parents think that everyone is as amused and delighted with their kids as they are?

Love the review. Can you tell me what nights are formal night? Trying to figure out when we should book restaurants. Thank you!!! :)

Formal nights on our 8 night cruise were the second (Sunday) and seventh (Friday) both nights we went before 6:30 and were seated right away.

We, everyone we told the story to and everyone that has responded on CC have all come to the same conclusion, the bug was a pre-existing condition. I'm not surprised they tried to play it off, but when they kept contacting us 4 days in a row to make sure we were ok, that is when we felt our suspicions were confirmed. Wished we could have gotten moved to a wrap around balcony. We were just so glad to be on vacation, bug or no bug, it did not matter.

LOL- and I shouldn't have used my favorite term, bqhatevr, without a reference: http://gawker.com/5979218/scott-browns-message-to-the-haters-bqhatevwr

On the 15 drink Cheers issue, I've seen some people say that they start paying for drinks after their 14th cheers drink so they won't be cut off.
