Upgrade fairy called for Breakaway sailing 6/9!

Just got a call from the upgrade fairy over at NCL for my sailing on the Breakaway departing in 4 days!

We were moved from an inside cabin on deck 5, category IB, to a family balcony on deck 12, category B3!

I was already pretty excited for this cruise but this is quite the icing on the cake. :D

CONGRATULATIONS! That's one heck of an upgrade.

So it was an Upgrade, not an Upsell right?

I'm in an Ocean View deck 5 on the June 16th sailing.

This is my first time as a Casinos at Sea guest. (Just paid Port fees and taxes, and the difference from an inside to an Ocean View)...Is it too much to hope for an upgrade, or is that unheard off when a CAS guest?

Wow, what a wonderful surprise and congrats :)

Hubby and I are on this sailing in a CAS comped spa minisuite on deck 14.

Brenda,

I have never read here of anyone who has a CAS comped cabin getting a call from the upgrade fairy, but you never know. You may want to give CAS a call to see if there are any higher category cabins still available that you may be able to upgrade to. This late in the game you may be able to upgrade at a very reasonable price. Good Luck.

Yup, upgrade, not upsell. Didn't pay a penny extra!

About 2 years ago I had a comped Oceanview cabin and was called the day before my cruise and upgraded to an aft balcony. I have been on many cruises with NCL and this was the only time this happened and it was a comped cruise too so I was shocked. It does happen but I think it is not the norm.

Wow! Congratulations!

Did you book through NCL? Do you happen to remember the phone number when they called you? (Like was it an 800#) The reason I ask is because I screen my calls. :)

We booked through a travel agent. And I don't know the number they called from :(

Woo Hoo! Yours was definitely an upgrade. Sometimes a change to a higher category is not really a better cabin. That's a good reason for studying the deck plans and cabins. Then if a call comes, you won't need to stammer and try to think is this good or not? Would hate to miss a "good" upgrade.

That is so awesome! :)

I have a question about the upgrade fairy...if you get a call but don't want to upgrade (lets say you're in an aft suite who would give up that balcony??) so you decline...would they give you an OBC or anything instead? Or are you pretty much looking a gift horse in the mouth if you say no? (seriously, with the size of those s6 balconies, the only thing I'd even consider as an upgrade would be a DOS lol)

This upgrade story does not make any sense. Cruise lines will upgrade when they want to free less expensive cat's to increase sales.

The ship is wide open for that sailing with the exception of the top suite cat's. Why would they even need to upgrade and inside> OS > Balc.

this is when an upsell, comes into play, to increase revenue. Why would the dispatch dept. give an upgrade? there is no need.

Any TA's able to answer that?

They won't give you anything, they will just move along to the next cabin. They are usually trying to free up the lower level cabins to sell them.

OP, great deal :) I wonder if someone wanted your cabin for some reason or perhaps they are doing some work in there. For whatever reason, have an amazing cruise!

Thanks!

I believe they said there was a group, and something about needing cabins that held at least 3 people. Whatever the reason, I'm not complaining!

It doesn't look "wide open" now.

Probably the balcony couldn't hold 3 people.

Whatever....enjoy!

Her agent might have called for an upgrade and she doesn't know it. If she paid a higher price for her inside a while ago, before final payment and now the balcony cabins aree going for the same price she paid for an inside, they would give it to her and sell her room.......

1. He.

2. I watch for fare drops. The fare of a balcony today was far more than what I paid for the inside cabin.
