Breakaway Suite 11908 ~ Suite Life in an S6

Recommended Posts

As promised, an in-depth look at our Breakaway S6 on Deck 11. This suite has a different layout than most other suites. Deck 11 and Deck 14 are the only decks to have this configuration.

I will begin with some photos and will try to embed some you tube videos at the end. I know many of you are eager to see the photos, so I'm trying as quickly as possible to get as much info out here as I can.

Our cabin was 11908. When you first open the door to your suite, you will notice the doorways are very narrow, and the door is very heavy. Directly ahead of you will be the "small bathroom" or half bath, as it is called. It was tight, but my teen DD had no problem using this and it had plenty of space for all her toiletries. The small bathroom has a shower, some shelf and some cabinet space, is also appointed with Elemis products. You will not find a soap/shampoo wall dispenser here. Back of the door has 2 hooks for hanging clothes/towels and there are 2 cups hanging on the wall. It is pretty tight for counter height space, but toiletries fit on the lower shelves next to the toilet and a shelf behind the toilet. Here are some pictures of the "small bathroom". I know they were hard to find here in the past.

Turn to your right, and you will be entering the dining area. Our first impression was both "Wow!" AND "This looks bigger in photos". However, even though it was a bit smaller than I imagined, it was roomy enough for the 3 of us AND about 20 guests that came to our cabin crawl.

232323232%7Ffp54387%3Enu%3D56%3A9%3E387%3E256%3EWSNRCG%3D3484%3C578%3B3347nu0mrj

Attached to the dining area is the living room. It's also the bed where our DD would be sleeping. Beyond that is the sliding glass door to the balcony.

Grrr....I just finished a full page and photos of MB and it deleted the whole thing when I went to backspace! Sorry for the delay...starting again...

The master bedroom was Awesome. Very roomy and storage galore!

The deck 11 and 14 bedroom configurations seem larger, if you look to the left side of the bed, you will see plenty of room between the bed and the wall.

Now, in comparison, the other deck configurations (Sorry, I boosted this from another thread).

Disclaimer: This is not my photo, this is the deck 9, 10, 12 & 13 bedroom!!!

OK, back to 11908:

Okay, Ladies....and Gentlemen. I present to you, the MB storage space...and it was SWEEEEEET! I am a clothing and shoe junkie, and I couldn't fill this storage if I tried!

232323232%7Ffp73476%3Enu%3D56%3A9%3E387%3E256%3EWSNRCG%3D3484%3C788%3C5347nu0mrj

The master bedroom closets were enough to send some of the NYC dwellers from our cabin crawl into shock and awe! Plenty of hanging and shelf space.

232323232%7Ffp73474%3Enu%3D56%3A9%3E387%3E256%3EWSNRCG%3D3484%3C79%3A37347nu0mrj

Storage cabinets and drawers above and below television. Above: one large cantilevered cabinet. Below: 2 small shelves (we used for camera, glasses, etc) 2 small cabinet doors (one housed the safe) and two large drawers. At least 4 of our suitcases fit under the bed (I told you I am a clothes junkie)

232323232%7Ffp5439%3A%3Enu%3D56%3A9%3E387%3E256%3EWSNRCG%3D3484%3C7899%3A347nu0mrj

Vanity area, with one small desk drawer, two wall shelves and plenty of room on the table for make-up and toiletries. Also had a magnified makeup mirror and a spot underneath for the blow dryer. A caddy on top held cotton balls and Q-tips. There is also a lint brush on one of the shelves.

232323232%7Ffp5435%3A%3Enu%3D56%3A9%3E387%3E256%3EWSNRCG%3D3484%3C79%3A38347nu0mrj

232323232%7Ffp543%3A7%3Enu%3D56%3A9%3E387%3E256%3EWSNRCG%3D3484%3C7899%3B347nu0mrj

But one fabulous feature about the bedroom was the door out to the balcony. Only decks 11 & 14 have this option, which we LOVED! Never had to tiptoe past a sleeping teen to get out to the balcony.

232323232%7Ffp54383%3Enu%3D56%3A9%3E387%3E256%3EWSNRCG%3D3484%3C79%3A39347nu0mrj

It had a handle and opened out in lieu of a sliding door like the living room. It was much easier to open, as the sliding door is very heavy. For those with young children, both doors have a safety lock way up high, so door cannot be opened inadvertently by a child (or a really, really short adult).

GOAL!!!!!!! Thank you soooo much OTGM. Your photos make me want to cry with happiness. ;) The best cabin DH and I have ever had was a Sky Suite on the Celeb (older) Mercury. Three sea days in this suite, (opposite side), are going to be sweet! Thank you for all your effort, I know it's tedious.

I loved this cabin layout when I sailed in May. My sister had her own bathroom and slept on the pullout and I never bothered her as I went out onto the balcony in the early morning and enjoyed the view. I had the deck 14 which has a smaller balcony area but the space I had was more then enough for 4 people.

Did see the other layout and preferred this one. Changed from a deck 12 to a deck 11 for my Getaway next year.

Thanks for the pictures and the review.

Ah, the balcony! Even some fellow travelers from deck 16 haven suites were amazed at the size of those aft balconies.

Balcony...you had me at "Hello"

This was one of the best aspects of this suite. We took great pleasure in having some meals served on this spectacular balcony. Our butler was wonderful, and obliged us each time.

As we understood it, our balcony was neither the largest or the smallest and ranged in depth from deepest to smallest as 9, 12, 11, 10, 14 & 13. However, I didn't pack a tape measure! Our balcony contained 2 lounges with cushions, 2 deep seating chairs with cushions and side table, dinner table and 4 wicker chairs.

Did you happen to get a photo of the bed in the living room when it was made up to sleep in?

This is the only photo I have with the bed open. It's zoomed in pretty tight, so you cannot get a sense of the space entirely. I can tell you that my 5'6" DD could fit either direction, and not have her feet hanging off. I think it is approx. a queen size when opened (or possibly a king). We had our steward bring a foam topper, but truth is, it could use 2 toppers side by side if you have more than one person sleeping in that bed. There was still room to walk around bed by the TV.

232323232%7Ffp73477%3Enu%3D56%3A9%3E387%3E256%3EWSNRCG%3D3484%3C78992347nu0mrj

When opened, the bed came to about the end of the club chair in the photo below (if this helps visualize the space used). The ottoman/coffee table was moved out of the way. You can see the 2 end tables on each side act as nightstands when bed is opened and there is a small headboard in the picture above when the bolsters are removed.

On to the Master Bath. This was well appointed and extremely roomy. Nearly perfect in design. I will explain the "nearly" at the end of this section. The bathtub was much larger than the diagonal ones shown in other photos. I did sit in it, and my feet still had another 18" or more until the spigot...and NO I didn't take a photo of me in the tub, although it was a request before I embarked (fully dressed in empty tub, of course) as this was how another traveler complained about the small size of the tubs in the S4.

232323232%7Ffp54358%3Enu%3D56%3A9%3E387%3E256%3EWSNRCG%3D3484%3C78994347nu0mrj

The shower was wonderful, with the rain shower head and body jets as well as hand-held shower head. Never a problem with temperature control. Handy cubbies for shampoo, soap, etc., and a foot bar at the bottom for assistance when shaving legs. One of the flaws in my "near perfection" comment above was because if you turn on the shower from a position outside the stall (like most do to regulate temperature before entering shower) and it is in the "body jet" mode, the water would shoot out at you, and across the bathroom (LOL, those jets are powerful!!!) Just a complete shocker the first time it happened (yes, I'm a slow learner or maybe just too hung over, so it happened more than once)...so make sure it's only in rain shower mode when you turn water on!

232323232%7Ffp73485%3Enu%3D56%3A9%3E387%3E256%3EWSNRCG%3D3484%3C78995347nu0mrj

232323232%7Ffp734%3A7%3Enu%3D56%3A9%3E387%3E256%3EWSNRCG%3D3484%3C79%3A33347nu0mrj

Toilet was a stall directly next to shower, and was roomy enough not to feel claustrophobic when stall door was closed. Had heard some complaints on these boards about flush button being hard to push, but that was not an issue here. No problems at all

232323232%7Ffp54386%3Enu%3D56%3A9%3E387%3E256%3EWSNRCG%3D3484%3C78996347nu0mrj

The wall between the tub and shower has a hanger for your robe, a large cubby shelf unit and two towel bars. It also has a curtain that draws across the entryway of the bathroom from the master bedroom.

232323232%7Ffp54377%3Enu%3D56%3A9%3E387%3E256%3EWSNRCG%3D3484%3C79%3A32347nu0mrj

Again, scads of storage space here, but herein lies another "flaw". If you prefer a shower to a bath, you must walk past the dreaded curtain to get to both the towel bar and the robe hook. As both are closer to the tub than the shower. The glass door of the shower opens out to the left, so when sopping wet, you make your way out of the shower and TRY to shimmy past that curtain on the right without your wet skin sticking to it on the way to the towel! There is no place either inside or just outside the shower to place the towel. And on the floor in front of the shower is the typical size terry bath mat, but then you have another 8-10 feet to go to get to the robe/towels without sliding on the lovely tile floor. So I would use one of the extra bath towels to remedy this. Just felt bad making more laundry for the steward to clean up. The curtain also blocks the main light switches for the bathroom, and you must reach behind it to turn it on.

These are both minor inconveniences, as this bathroom is fabulous!

Across from the shelves and towel bars is the double sink. This double vanity spans the entire length of the master bath from the toilet to the tub. Had an unbelievable amount of storage. Pure luxury in this area. Wish I had this much counter/sink space in my master bath at home. Shelve under sink bowls spans entire length for storage, extra towels, scale and pool towels are found here. Drawers have touch latches for storage and trash bin cantilevers out on bottom corner. Of course, all Elemis products for this bathroom as well.

Hi Peg, music from H20 wasn't loud really, in fact, one night we TRIED to hear the music from the balcony, as we were out there lounging with drinks and it was tough to hear what song they were playing. We also had no issues with the thumping from the bass as others spoke of on higher decks. The music did get louder for the glow and the 80s parties, but I was in H20 for both of them. DH went back to the room and said he could hear the music on the balcony, but not in the cabin. You would not be able to see the fireworks from 11908 because it is on the starboard side, and they shoot the fireworks off the port side. We enjoyed the view from H20 but you could also watch from any pool deck or the freestyle deck.

Are you guys doing any of the 2-nighters on Breakaway? We had a blast with that whole crew on the Jewel and the Star.

The Deck 11 staff was wonderful. Marlon was our butler, very efficient, although I did write everything down for him, so there was no room for confusion (I'm a bit OCD...alright, truth be told my DH says that I am the evil spawn of TV's Mr. Monk and Martha Stewart, so yeah, I'm a bit particular, so I wrote down EVERYTHING).

Our room steward was Joemar...OMG! I love Joemar! How lucky we are to have him on the Breakaway. We thought we would never outdo our beloved Gigi on the Gem, but Joemar was just as AWESOME! When we first went to our room, there weren't any inaugural season tote bags on the bed, so we asked and were told that they ran out. I told Joemar that I was looking forward to getting one, he found one and when I arrived back at the room later, it was there. He took time to find it for me, even on a busy embarkation day.

Devon was the floor supervisor, and when I told him what a fabulous staff he had on Deck 11, he was pleased and when I arrived back at our suite later that day, there was ANOTHER tote bag and book for us, compliments of Joemar & Devon.

232323232%7Ffp734%3A8%3Enu%3D56%3A9%3E387%3E256%3EWSNRCG%3D3484%3C78287347nu0mrj

SpongeBob and Me, With my favorite new tote bag!

Our butler, Marlon, brought us several meals and set up on the balcony for us. Breakfast from the Haven Restaurant was our favorite meal to enjoy there. Easy to jump in the shower and get ready while the food was being delivered.

Marlon also set up for a small cocktail party for our cabin crawl. He found some peach nectar juice for me to enjoy some Bellini's with our sparkling wine, delivered some movies for my DD and brought some requested afternoon snacks.

I just emailed my PCC to switch us to your S6 for our Bermuda cruise Sept of 2014. I don't know if we'll do either of the 2 night CTN's on the Breakaway since there is only one at the end of our 12 night cruise on Jan 5. Would definitely do one before it but there isn't one. If they get cheap enough - who knows. :D

I was hoping to be able to hear the music as long as it wasn't until 3am.

Michele, yes, this was just like the one we saw on 14 during the 6/9 cruise's cabin crawl. Great suite. I like this setup a lot. Then went back to my "just a BA balcony" cabin!

Those black pumps on your balcony photo on page 1--look familiar! I remember you modeling them on the CTN in the winter! :)

Those loungers were the best seats in the house, no chair hogs here! Although, they were a bit soiled when we first arrived. I asked Joemar for some clean cushions (remember...Monk/Martha evil spawn) and he removed them, had them cleaned, and placed them back on the deck the first evening. Such wonderful service!

Hi Lori!! I don't think I would ever be able to do a regular balcony room on this ship after having this suite. I really loved the set up for deck 11 & 14 and was glad I chose that deck long before any info surfaced for it.

And, yes, you have a good eye. Those ARE the Christian Louboutin's I bought on Madison Ave. on my way to our 2-nighter on the Jewel!! LOL! :)

For the "big" parties (glow, 80's, Fabba) you can hear music on the balcony, but ALL the parties end at 1 am. They continue in Bliss after that.

Gosh you started this review like an investigative reporter capturing all the details of your cabin. I think if anyone had any questions about which S6 to pick, you won them over to your suite. Love how the bedroom has the separate door to the balcony so not to disturb the living room guests. Great thinking NCL ;)

Bravo! I cant wait for more. I am already suffering from withdrawal symptoms :)

Wow, you have to reach behind the curtain to get to the light switch and you can't reach the towel bar from the shower in the master bath? That shower looks kinda small to me, too. What up, NCL???? Breakaway obviously needs to go into drydock for corrections ASAP. ;)

Hee, hee, hee. Just kidding. Thanks so much, Michelle. I about fainted when I saw your balcony photos. I do believe I'm having the vapors! Guess I'll just have to tough it out come next May. Glad you had a great cruise and thanks again for being such a great CC member and sharing so much. :D
