Have fun..I don't hit it until June 1. Since I just booked, that will give me a little time to figure out what to do in all the ports (I kid myself, I know I will be snorkeling every chance I can get ;) )

Excellent! Have you done a "helmet dive" yet? I did one in Bermuda a couple of years ago (my very first solo cruise) and it was awesome! I really felt like I was in a huge aquarium with the fish swimming around me. I even got to touch a big fish, which was so amazingly soft. Who would of thought?! :p I plan on taking another helmet dive in St. Thomas and then snorkeling in Half Moon Cay. Getting so excited!

My itinerary is different then yours, I love going to Half Moon Cay. I am doing St Martin, Grand Turk, San Juan, and St Kitts. I haven't been to the last two, so I am looking forward to new experiences. I have been to Grand Turk and just enjoyed the beach there...but this time I am going to do a snorkel excursion (have it narrowed down to two).

The snorkeling is excellent in Grand Turk. Went on a snorkeling excursion through Carnival (Ultimate Snorkeling I believe it is called.) & it was awesome. Thinking about doing that again when I go back in November. Enjoy your cruise. :)

HI all!

I'm going on my 14th & 15th solo cruises in May out of a total of 29 so half of them. I have also sailed with DH, Dsis & 2 travel companions but really like going alone. This way I make all the decisions.;)

Try it, you might like it, many of us do!:D

Hi! I'm Jennifer! I am in the planning stages of my first solo cruise in November in Liberty of the Seas. I've cruised and vacationed with family before, and I took a solo trip in preparation (I LOVED it!!!). I can't wait!!!

Next solo cruise for me is on Celebrity Silhouette July 3 from Venice. Anyone else put there. Roll call with very little movement . Would like to book shore excursions with other solos and maybe someone else would like to book 4 specialty dinner package together as well .

Hi, laedw. (and others) This will be my first cruise ever, and first time to Alaska as well. 'Interesting that you won't be booking any excursions. I've been looking at all the Cruise line's excursions offered, and have booked several. I've been thinking, though, that maybe I should leave some time to just explore on my own. I'm in a quandary about this. Part of me thinks that I may never have the opportunity to go again, so want to jam-pack the experience with the unusual things to do (Dog Sledding on Mendenhall Glacier, for SURE!) The other part feels that I need some "hang out" time to get a feel for each port. Since I'm going solo, and I've never even been on a cruise, the unscheduled time might feel awkward.

What are your thoughts???

Find excursions you really want but give yourself some downtime to explore. You won't regret it and you won't be exhausted. Have a great time in Alaska. I loved that cruise and most definitely will go back.

I won't be booking any excursions because I have been to the ports on this sailing so many times I have done all the excursions that interest me. That being said, I would definitely book excursions if I was cruising to Alaska for the first time! I would book a few excursions but leave some down time. I usually book early morning excursions that end early enough to give me time for shopping or time to come back to the ship and relax before sail away time. The unscheduled time will definitely not feel awkward. If you do not feel comfortable walking around town, you can use that time to explore the ship!

Hello! I'm a new cruiser. I grabbed a room on NCL Pearl for the repositioning from LA to Vancouver BC. The deal was too good to pass up and I had the time off work so I booked it late last week, giving me just about 1 week to pack and get ready for my very first cruise! For the past fews days I have been reading and researching on this website and watching all the Youtube videos about my ship that I can. Now I just have to wait until this work week is over and I can begin my first crusing vacation!

I travel solo all the time and have great adventures. Cruises have been something I've been wanting to do for years but the double-price for solo travel has always kept me away. Really glad I found this deal when I did. I have no doubt that being a cruise addict is in my near future.

I signed up for the Rollcall for my trip and see there is one other solo cruiser who will be at the Meet & Greet. Leaving on Saturday May 3rd and I'm very excited! I'm already packed and ready to go!

Hi

You will absolutely love your first cruise. I recently did my first one on NCL Spirit and am now smitten with cruising having booked more !!

My advice would be to look on the daily sheets for the Solo Travellers meet up. I went and met some lovely other cruisers plus the two entertainment guys who looked after the group so well. Anytime you are walking around if you meet them they are interested to know you are happy.

Keep your packing light most are in swimsuits and cover-up during the day and smart casual at night so go for mix and match items.

Have a wonderful time and do take time to relax.

Yep, I have seen that look, but since I am so excited to travel most people change that look pretty quick. I have traveled solo enough now that I get less frequent looks. After doing a week long catamaran trip with people I didn't know, I figure a cruise ship should be easy as pie, so much to do and so many people to chat with, and there is always a Serenity lounger and a book calling my name.

Scott, I too get that look more often than not. Which is weird to me because my friends know that my DH doesn't travel much due to his MS. The look usually comes from people that don't know me/us well (acquantences, coworkers, etc.). Sometimes it bothers me, but I'm good at just ignoring people, so that's what I do. I'm actually surprised YOU get that look since you're a guy. It's much more common for men to travel alone than women, but I think that's changing some now that women are becoming more independent (both in themselves and monitarily). I also find that some people just don't understand the whole concept or the attraction of solo traveling. I find that THOSE people (usually women) are insecure and tend to ride on other's coattails, so to speak. We all know those kinds of people and/or couples. Those that can't go to a movie by themselves or out to eat at a sit-down restaurant alone. They also seem to be glued to their spouse/sig other whenever they go out or travel. I just feel very sorry for them in that they're not comfortable with or love themselves enough to be alone for any period of time.

BTW, you're going to LOVE solo travel and don't be surprised if it becomes an addiction. ;)

Good luck and have fun! I sail on my solo cruise in just 10 days!! :D

Second solo! Loved the first, but I really do have to learn to talk to more people!

Have heard so many people with good things to say about this ship, had to book it to see for myself.

Wanted the itinerary with Half Moon Cay, another thing that gets rave reviews. Can't wait!

Hope the other lines follow Carnivals lead and make these solo sales easy to find.

Hi! I am booked for a solo on the Pride... but not for a long time.. September 2015! ARGH! But I just went on the Pride earlier this month and loved her. Not sure how I am going to wait the next 500+ days. I hope you will post a review of your experience. Also, I would strongly encourage you to eat at David's Steakhouse. It is work the money. I know that even if I wind up eating there with just me and my Nook Color, I am doing it ;-) LOL! Have a great time!

Hi there! I'm Tracey and I took the plunge and booked my first solo yesterday. My first solo trip ever! Eeepp! I figure after the last 2 years of spending my vacation healing from an accident and watching my father pass away from bone cancer, I'm taking this chance to escape reality. Granted I'm not escaping for another year but it's something to look forward to. s a 40 something single mama...I deserve this. 've been on another message forum before and have met some wonderful and amazing people and I am still friends with quite a few of them. I do hope that will be the case this time. Even if we aren't sailing at the same time there is always the chance of sailing on another trip because I don't intend on only taking one cruise. Looking forward to meeting y'all or at the very least making some great online friendships. :)

Hi Tracey,

I, too, and in my mid-40s but have no kids. However, all of my previous vacations have involved juggling other people's needs and desires above my own. So, I, too just booked my very first solo and I am over-the-top excited. Again, like you, mine is not till 2015 (September -- how am I going to wait?!?!?!) But in the future, I would love to travel with fun other solos, particularly for poolside chat buddies and fun dinner companions. And fellow casino troublemakers if so inclined! LOL!

I just booked my first solo cruise....and I leave MONDAY - that is only 5 days away!! My husband will be working all week - so why not...I'll go play :-)

This will definitely be a new experience! My past cruises have been doing what others wanted - this is my time!

I just booked my 3rd solo cruise and my 14th overall. This will be my first MSC cruise. The ship looks stunning and I love the Italian touches. Plus the price was amazing. In reading others comments it is nice to see that I am not crazy because I love going solo. I have travelled many times with friends and family and always had a great time. However there is something liberating about going solo and meeting new people. I mainly decided to go solo this time because I want some R&R where I set the schedule. I can't wait :)

Congrats on your upcoming solo cruise. Btw, welcome to your new addiction. At first the looks bothered me, but now I see them as a sign of jealously from others that I am able to have a good time & travel by myself.

Have fun on Splendor. Going on solo cruise #4 on Splendor in November.
