I just booked my first solo cruise....and I leave MONDAY - that is only 5 days away!! My husband will be working all week - so why not...I'll go play :-)

This will definitely be a new experience! My past cruises have been doing what others wanted - this is my time!

Hi, I hope you have a wonderful time:) I have been cruising solo for

11 years this month:D....it is the only way I cruise....and one big tip

I will give you? Be prepared to become addicted;)

Hi -- I know I am starting this discussion SUPER early. However, I cannot contain my excitement. This will be my first solo cruise. It will be on the Carnival Pride Sept. 20-27, 2015 sailing out of Baltimore, Maryland. I am from Virginia, so this cuts down significantly on my costs as I can drive there. I am single, no kids, and love to travel, especially by ship! As many of you probably can relate, I have spent my last 7 cruises catering to other people's agendas and itineraries. I enjoyed my sailings, but I cannot say how excited I am to travel by myself. That said, I am very outgoing and social, and would love to meet other solo passengers (or fun couples/groups) to dine with or enjoy all of the amazing evening activities. To get a sense of how I enjoy my days onboard:

  • Wake early

  • Get coffee

  • Lay in hammock (if not taken) on Serenity Deck and read

  • Go to breakfast when hungry

  • Sit by pool most of day (or bingo/trivia if weather is ugly)

  • Have pre-dinner wine or cocktail

  • Enjoy dinner

  • Go to evening show

  • Casino

  • Evening Comedy Show/live music

If anyone is interested in any of the above or in this sailing, let me know! I love to plan way ahead and then I have something to look forward to!

Sorry for the re-posting, but the format of my 1st turned out wrong and hard to read!

Sounds about my typical day on board. I have similar stats, mid 40's, no kids, single. Like you, I have always seemed to cater to everyone else's likes, wants, needs, etc....this year I said enough. I booked a week on a catamaran by myself and just enjoyed...it was WONDERUL, I didn't have to take care of everybody's travel plans, only my own. I have done two vacations since then, and am realizing how much others expect me to plan their days and figure out the details, etc. I just booked a solo cruise (Carnival Freedom June 1), I can't wait to do what I want or do nothig when I want.

I was on the Pride last year for a little 2 day cruise when it got stuck in Port of Baltimore after Sandy. Nice little ship, showing a little wear and tear, but overall good experience.

Hi Mel!! I hope you have a great time on the Freedom! I agree with you about Pride, though she will be dry-docking this fall, so I will get to sail with the upgrades :-) I am dying to try Guy Fieri's Burger Joint!! You will have to tell me if traveling solo is as amazing as I think it will be. I am okay eating alone (I have my Nook Color with me at all times as I love reading), but I imagine that I will want to have dinner with people. Usually, I have traveled with family. My last cruise, I found myself being irritated that I had to wait to meet family for meals, and my parents said they "couldn't find their way" so I always had to escort them everywhere. I love them, but can't wait to be able to meander and never look at my watch except for the activities *I* want to do!

I look forward to hearing about your time!

Hello fellow solo cruisers,

I am sailing solo from Long Beach, CA to Mexico and Catalina Island on the Imagination back to back May 29-June 5, 2014. Who is sailing with me?

Both these cruises have NO single supplement for solo cruisers enjoying their cabin to themselves!

Looking forward to meeting other solo passengers on these 2 cruises. If you are reading this and you haven't booked yet, maybe you should. I would enjoy having someone to play billiards with in Ensenada. Last time I was there I found a place that offered cheap pool and cheap beer! Must admit I would be a bit nervous about walking to and hanging out at a pool hall by myself in Mexico.

Happy cruising, Yamaha

I booked on the NCL Star, for the North Cape in Jun 2015. Haven't cruised solo since 2010 , been doing land vacations solo, which I equally love. The North Cape has been on my bucket list for some time. NCL, even with 200% supplement came out less expensive than HAL and Princess, but if princess comes down in price I'll book that instead, only because I prefer the itinerary.

I am booked solo on the Carnival Splendor June 17 out of NYC to the Eastern Caribbean. My 50th birthday is the 16th so this is my present to myself. I originally wanted to go to Alaska (have done it before, BEAUTIFUL!), do the Mayor's Half Marathon and then take a cruise back, but timing and finances made this the better choice. I really can't wait to go. I have a balcony cabin and am looking forward to a lot of reading, ship life and indulging in an adult beverage or several (well, it IS my birthday!). Looking forward to the time by myself and really couldn't care less about the ports of call though I guess I need to get more excited about them. In a perfect world I would have taken a TransAtlantic crossing, but this was better for my budget. Any solo females on that same cruise, feel free to contact me.

Hello,

Will anyone be sailing on the NCL Star 01/04/2015 or the Getaway on 01/24/2015 with me? These will be my 3rd and 4th solo cruise. It's the only way to cruise.

Give me a shout if you are on either of these.

Thanks

Just booked the latest of many solo cruises. This time will be sailing from Fort Lauderdale to Bermuda on August 18th. Is a 10 day cruise which is ideal for me. Was shopping for a transatlantic but decided to do this instead. Price was just too good to pass up. Also is very rare to find a Bermuda cruise that sails from FTL. Wanted to book a balcony but none left so I ended up in a large interior. Still hoping a balcony will open up. Itinerary is very nice as it stops in Charleston SC, 3 days in Bermuda then on to Nassau & Coco Cay, the line's out island.

It has never bothered me to cruise solo as I often traveled for work & got comfortable with doing things on my own. I'm retired now but many of my friends are still working, don't have the money or a spouse who won't "let" them go. Learned a long time ago if you wait for other people to do things you will grown moss. I have gotten to the point where I actually prefer going by myself, setting my own pace & having a cabin all to myself. Wish the cruiselines would be a bit more considerate of solo travelers with regard to single supplements but, it is what it is. I mainly travel on Royal, Princess, Celebrity & Holland but I have done many others as well. There is no such thing as a bad cruise but the MSC experience comes close. Beautiful, spotless ships & great prices but atrocious service & the food is beyond awful. Whoever heard of charging for water @ dinner!

Hi! I'm Jennifer! I am in the planning stages of my first solo cruise in November in Liberty of the Seas. I've cruised and vacationed with family before, and I took a solo trip in preparation (I LOVED it!!!). I can't wait!!!

jayblue RCCL cruiser

Liberty is my favorite RCCL ship & I have been on almost all of them. Have sailed on her 5 times, including a transatlantic which was fabulous. You will have a wonderful time.

I'm going solo on the 10-night Palm Trees and Pink Sand Cruise on RCI Vision of the Seas, June 9-19, 2014, leaving from Fort Lauderdale. I am actually looking forward to treating myself to a much-needed break.:)

I am booked on this same cruise for August as June was sold out. Be sure and write a review or come back to this thread. Would love to hear your feedback. Was going to go on a transatlantic but rare we have a Bermuda cruise leaving locally so I jumped on it.

I just put a hold on a balcony cabin for this 7 night cruise that ends in Barcelona. I am stoked, an aft balcony to myself and time in London and Spain.

I am not sure how I am going to put in the year & a half.

Got a great price on the BOGOHO sale, from what I can see, no real upcharge for being solo.

Anyone else doing the solo thing on this trip? I'm a female in her 60's, and this will be my very first cruise. I hope folks will register for the Connections party so we can meet the quota.

I am also a female in her 60's and have just completed my first cruise and cannot wait till June for my second. I am so happy NCL. Have studio cabins for solo travellers at single prices too. You will absolutely love cruising because you meet some lovely people and can do so many things onboard have fun and yet feel safe and not lonely. Join the roll call for your cruise is the best advice and join the so travellersmeetup once onboard. Enjoy yourself x
