Greetings, I'm Patrick a 75 year old widower from south Florida. My wife and I cruised generally twice a year for about 15 years after she retired. Since she died in January I have taken a solo seven day Caribbean cruise in May and a seven day New England/Canada cruise with my grandson last week. I am currently booked on the transatlantic cruise on the Celebrity Infinity in October from Harwich to Ft. Lauderdale. Although I have not yet booked any cruises for next year I am probably going to take a HAL 31 day Med cruise in April.

Greetings, Patrick. I'm sorry for the recent loss of your wife. I cannot imagine.

'Wonderful to be able to take your grandson with you on a cruise. Here's to a terrific transatlantic cruise for you!

I took my first-ever cruise to Alaska last month. 'Never cruised before, nor had I ever been to Alaska, and I went solo! It was the most fun I'd had in years. Met so many delightful people. The helicopter flight over the glaciers was one of the most awe inspiring events of my life.

I am HOOKED!

The Caribbean cruise was on the MSC Divina and it was so-so. The accommodations were fine, the ship was in good shape, the food was good (not exceptional) and the entertainment was good. The down side was the number of passengers - 4,000! Neither my wife nor I were keen on large ships and were not too keen on seven day cruises in the Caribbean. Why then you may ask, why did I take it? Because it was dirt cheap and I needed to get away. Would I do it again, probably yes but only as a last resort.

Hi, I am sorry for your loss.

Glad you are still getting out.

My grandmother refused to get on a ship or really go anywhere.

We went to Las Vegas once.

For years she sat at home and now her health is failing.

Just makes me love hearing about people that are getting out.

That's what happened when we started taking fairly long cruises after we were both retired - we were hooked. Prior it was generally a Caribbean cruise in either Spring break or the Summer as my wife was a school teacher. We have been to some very exciting places and I plan to continue doing that.

My name is Christina and I just booked my 2nd solo cruise on the Carnival Glory sailing 8/30! My very first cruise was back in 2011 was solo and I have met some wonderful people that I have been on several cruises since with them. In fact my November cruise is with a few of those great cruise friends and in fact I dragging two friends along with me on that one. I just can't wait till the end of November. hehe!!! So I decided to go ahead and book a solo cruise! This is a long thread and I have not been able to go through it all yet, so if anyone is on the same cruise just let me know. I did join the Quiet roll call as well!!!

Hi all, I'm Rob (27), cruising solo on Breakaway on 7/20/14. I've cruised quite a bit with my family growing up, but this will be my first solo cruise. Is anyone else going to be on this sailing? Anyone who has cruised Breakaway in the past have any advice for solo cruisers or must-do's on the ship or in Bermuda?

I loved the breakaway and I was trying to n go on it again, but carnival won out with price. My favorite night hangouts were the Howl and the Moon piano bar and fat Cats. I thought the talent on that ship was amazing. For reaturants Le Bistro was fantastic. What I did not get to experience was the waterfront as I went in Feb out of NY and the weather even in the Bahamas was not nice during that cruise, but it seemed like a super cool hangout! I am going on the Getaway in November can't wait to try it out.

I am sure you will have a blast!

It's been a while since I've sailed on Carnival. I usually sail on NCL but I couldn't resist the price! :D

Hi everyone,

This is my first posting on this site. I, too, am a solo cruiser since becoming a widow. The cruise is with Holland America on the M.S. Volendam. I'll be leaving L. A. on 9/27/14 for Hawaii, visit more islands in the Pacific, then onto Sydney, Australia, circumnavigate it & then heading North thru a lovely area to eventually disembark in Singapore for the flight home to the Seattle, WA area. My last solo cruise was 21 days, in the Caribbean, with HAL; it was my first solo cruise & most enjoyable.

Anyone going on this adventure ? !!! I have also posted on HAL's website threads for the above trip.

M. B(arbara). as Gt.DanesRGR8 :)

Hopefully I can find this site again to see if there are replies.

I am a single mum in my mid 40s with 2 grown up kids and I love cruising. I have went on a singles cruise last Halloween and will be on my 2nd singles cruise on Sept 14, 2014 from Barcelona on Norwegian Epic. Will be having a studio cabin. So excited and looking forward to it.

Hi Tracey,

I, too, and in my mid-40s but have no kids. However, all of my previous vacations have involved juggling other people's needs and desires above my own. So, I, too just booked my very first solo and I am over-the-top excited. Again, like you, mine is not till 2015 (September -- how am I going to wait?!?!?!) But in the future, I would love to travel with fun other solos, particularly for poolside chat buddies and fun dinner companions. And fellow casino troublemakers if so inclined! LOL!
