O I see now Thank Thank You Mucho Gracias :D

so no gift cards and do NOT buy OBC
COPY DAT!!!
Cash is king ;). I only use cash on my S&S but paying ahead of time was easier so I didn't have to carry so much cash with me. I'm glad my bank doesn't charge me for travelers checks since now I have to purchase more.

Carnival works the same way. You put either cash or credit card on your account and you use your room key/sign & sale card for all the purchases you stated. At the end of your cruise, Carnival will charge what you spend to your credit card or deduct it from the cash you put up depending what you use.

You do have to set up your account with something. Carnival doesnt give you the option to settle your bill at the end.
Maybe because of the all the OBC specials they are running lately? That is stupid though if you bought it ahead of time! Why can't you get it back? That is your money, not some special.
Yes it is stupid that it is non refundable but he purchased it from Bon Voyage and it clearly states on the website that it is non refundable. It has nothing to do with OBC specials Carnival has been running lately.

Cruise Cash provides an immediate credit to a guest's Sail & Sign account. This credit is good for any charge made to their account including taxes and gratuity charges. Cruise Cash is valid for a single voyage and cannot be transferred to future bookings. Cruise Cash is non-refundable and any unused credits will be forfeited.

I have a cash account ready for me to apply my Carnival Gift Card I purchased. Any money left over at the end of my cruise will be returned to me on another Carnival Gift Card for future Carnival purchases. This is how I prepay my Sign & Sail without using a credit card and not have to carry a lot of cash with me while traveling. I did use my Carnival credit card to purchase my gift card so I got the double points. :D Edited by shawne71

I feel sorry for people when they get taken advantage of, shame on Big Business that looks for ways to steal money.

You can't really say that they've been taken advantage of when it clearly states "Cruise Cash provides an immediate credit to a guest's Sail & Sign account. This credit is good for any charge made to their account including taxes and gratuity charges. Cruise Cash is valid for a single voyage and cannot be transferred to future bookings. Cruise Cash is non-refundable and any unused credits will be forfeited." It's posted right there where you click "ADD TO CART". People need to stop and take the time to read all the details before purchasing. It's nobody's fault but their own. ;)

So you can purchase a Carnival Gift Card from the CCL website and then load money to that account? Do you load it when you get on the ship? Here's what I found about gift cards???

General Description

Carnival® offers closed loop prepaid cards (Gift Cards) to customers. Standard Gift Cards are defined as Gift Cards

purchased by a customer. Promotional Gift Cards are defined as Gift Cards provided without charge as marketing or

booking promotion

Standard Gift Cards have no expiration date. Promotional Gift Cards may carry an expiration date which will be printed on

the Gift Card.

Gift Cards do not incur dormancy fees for non-use.

Gift Cards are not credit, debit, or charge cards, and have no implied warranties.

Gift Cards have no value until activated at time of purchase, and Gift Cards will not be activated until payment is verified. Gift

Cards will be activated when delivered, and will be active upon receipt by the customer.

Gift Cards cannot be reloaded, meaning funds may not be added to Gift Cards after activation.

Once activated, Gift Cards may not be resold; resale or attempted resale is grounds for seizure and cancellation of the Gift

Card without compensation.

Gift Cards are not refundable or redeemable for cash, expect where required by law.

Carnival®

may refuse, cancel or hold for review Gift Cards and Gift Card orders in cases where it suspects fraud, mistake,

alteration, issuance in an incorrect denomination, or violations of law, policies or these Terms and Conditions.

Lost, stolen or damaged Gift Cards will not be replaced.

Gift Cards are issued by CCL Gifts, LLC (Issuer). Issuer reserves the right, and holders or purchasers of a Gift Card agree

that, Issuer may at any time change these Terms and Conditions, as permitted by law.

These Terms and Conditions and all matters arising out of or relating to the Gift Cards, except as governed by federal law,

will be governed by the laws of the State of Florida without giving effect to any choice of law rule.

Redeeming Gift Cards

Gift Cards are redeemable at participating Carnival Cruise Line ships for passenger travel to pay for ticket purchases and

as deposit to an onboard account. Gift Cards can be redeemed for or on any cruise sold or operated by Carnival Cruise

Line® , except onboard those sailings operating in a non-USD functional currency onboard.

If you go to Carnival FAQS and type in "Gift Card", go down to the 14th question and you can read this.

Q: Can I received a refund on any unused portion of the Carnival Gift Card amount that was applied towards my Sail and Sign while onboard?

A: Any unused portion or overage of the Gift Card that was applied towards your Sail and Sign account will be issued in the form of another Carnival Gift Card.

Have a good day! ;)

If some of you just come into at least the 1980's, the use of a credit card (cc) solves all of these issues.

I understand the point is how to avoid using a cc but....there's no reason for this.

If you don't want to regularly use a cc, don't, but have one available for something like this. There are a ton of no fee cc's available that cost you nothing.

Save your money at home in a shoe box. Use the cc on the cruise and dont spend more than what's in the shoe box. When the cc bill comes due, deposit the shoe box money into your bank account, then pay the cc bill.

Presto, whamo, shazamo, you're done. Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy.

Put the cc back into the sock drawer until it's needed again.

And that's why we have threads like this.

Losing money:confused:

Jumping through hoops, going through gyrations, "working" the casino just so you can get YOUR money back:confused:

Complaining ad infinitum about the way it used to be:confused:

Complaining about being taken advantage of by those mean old companies:confused:

Sounds like a plan to me

+1 Like. I really don't understand why people go out of the way to buy cruise cash or even gift cards for themselves. You are using cash or credit to make this purchase so it is really an exercise in futility to do this but each to their own :). It makes sense to buy gift cards or cruise cash as a gift for a friend or relative though. I use my Costco Amex to pay for the cruise and sail and sign and get 2% back which adds up. $2800 dollar cruise plus 600 onboard expenses gets me 68 dollars in card rewards. That is not small change in my book for just using the credit card and paying it off when the bill comes due.
