11 Cruises with Carnival & NEVER AGAIN

First, Carnival (or anyone) cannot construct anything that makes everyone happy... Large, Small, Petite, Children.... etc. It is nearly impossible to account for all body sizes.

 

As for being mad at Carnival for the Hot water... OK, but should've contacted guest services for a quicker resolution. When you stay at a hotel, do you normally complain to the maid? No, you contact the front desk... same thing.

 

As for the cut, sorry, it happens, and it could have happened anywhere.

So in all, next time I fell the urge to cruise with Carnival all I have to do is look at my leg to remind me that I will NEVER cruise with Carnival again!!!!! By the way it's over a week and the skin around the wound is still red and uncomfortable.

 

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but I was on RCCL last week & had issues with the shower & public restrooms. (not the same issues, but issues nonetheless.)

This. If the OP couldn't sit comfortably in the stall, she should have moved to a handicapped accessible one thus preventing the injury.

In this case, the injury came about due to not paying attention to her own limitations in an environment thousands have used without incident. If an injury was from a plate breaking and cutting her, the injury would be a covered event because it was indeed an accident.

Your reasons to not cruise Carnival is a little petty. Perhaps to NOT go on the Sunshine, at least.

 

Shower--Ever heard of using the showers in the spa if there was a problem?

 

Bathroom and cut leg--if you said it was in the casino women's washroom, then it should have been covered by Carnival, and not you. If the cut is deep and long then it needs to be tended too. Perhaps that is why superglue is a good thing to bring along....clean the wound with water and antibacterial and then glue it closed....lots of glue......

 

Now, get off your computer and get the wound attended to!

Off to the Casino. I'm casual tonight wearing shorts. No, I did not go into the Dining Room. After about an hour and half after giving my usual donation, time to use the restroom. I'm a big girl, 5'9" and about 30 lbs over weight. The bathroom stalls are made for a 5'4" 110 lb girl, no room in these stalls. Get up off the toilet and ouch!!! Look down and there is blood everywhere. I had slashed my upper outer thigh. Oh terrific and in the bathroom (germs). I had cut my leg on the square metal guard hanging over the toilet paper. Cleaned it the best I could in the restroom, grabbed some toilet paper to compress the wound to stop the bleeding. Really needed a paper towel or napkin, but only dryers in the restroom.

 

Walked out the to Casino Bar to get some napkins, freaked out the bar tender and she took me straight to the Infirmary. Got there the Dr said I needed stitches, but it will cost quite abit and I need to keep pressure on the wound to stop the bleeding. Forget it, give me some band-aids and anti-bacterial ointment. Best deal on the whole ship, only $3. Now the adrenaline has stopped, this thing really hurts and very bruised and deep, but only 4" long.

 

On to Friday, not feeling well. By the evening I'm running a low grade fever. This better be the flu and not an infection from the injury. Saturday, self quarantine in cabin all day. Sunday disembark, still running a fever, I want to go home.

 

Get home, received Carnival's survey. Explain what happened, I get an email stating they are sorry, will let the proper department know so this will not happen to anyone else. Well, at least I got a less than heart felt apology.

 

So in all, next time I fell the urge to cruise with Carnival all I have to do is look at my leg to remind me that I will NEVER cruise with Carnival again!!!!! By the way it's over a week and the skin around the wound is still red and uncomfortable.

 

I'm not concerned about your shower, but about the cut you received from the bathroom stall. I haven't gone through all posts, but I hope by now you've gone to your Dr....especially if the Dr. on the ship stated you needed stitches.

 

For your sake I hope all is well with you and staph or something else hasn't set up house in your wound.

To the OP, you've had plenty of people tell you to go and see your doctor about your wound, so I won't say it again. I hope you have by this point and you're on the mend. I would've had the stitches done when they were offered. My big worry about cutting myself deeply on something in a toilet stall would be the germs and bacteria that could get into the wound. After all, people would be reaching for the toilet paper to wipe themselves and could potentially leave germs behind on the dispenser. This is why travel insurance, with medical cover, is a must whenever you holiday.

if my shower didn't work my first thought would have been to go to the spa and use the ones there. would have been an inconvenient but would have worked.

 

I find this hilarious. When I go on vacation, hotel or cruise ship, I go with expectations that the plumbing will work. If not, my first thought would be to have it fixed. Sure, I could go to the spa to shower, but that would never be my 1st thought. Instead, that would be my last resort.

Completely agree. I find that to be kind of an off-the-wall suggestion.

A few years back on a cruise I stubbed my toe on the threshold in the bathroom and a few nights later on a chair in Lido rest. The dr on board fixed me up and I was not charged since the injury happened on the ship. Maybe that has changed, I don't know.

 

I agree that they should have done the stitches at no cost to her if this injury happened as a result of a problem with the ship design, etc. The OP should post a picture on here so we can all weigh in.

How exactly is it a problem with the ship design? It's a stationary object... It didn't move from the time she sat down to the time she was finished... Are multiple people being injured every day due to this "design flaw"? What didn't fit perfectly for her may have been just right for someone else...

 

Also, why should the medical staff (which is independant) do this for free? She cut herself on a stationary object.... I'm sorry she was injured but it isn't always someone elses fault...

I agree. I'm laid back and tend to go with the flow. However, I do expect the shower to work and I wouldn't merrily be skipping off to the spa to shower.

If there is an object sharp enough to cause a gash in someone's leg when being used properly, it is their fault. And a good business would at least take care of the medical treatment associated with such a mishap as a gesture of good faith. Now, if she was standing on the toilet and fell off, that's her fault. Let's see how you feel when something happens to you or your family. Smh

It was not properly used. She rammed her leg into it hard. She knew where it was. I am assuming she used it. She then I guess she forgot where it was and stood up ramming her leg into it. It is a shame she got hurt. But that doesn't mean it is Carnival's fault.

so are there lines of people in the medical center every day due to this "negligence"?.... you may have a point if that's the case...

 

Otherwise, it was someone being careless in unfamiliar surroundings. Sorry it happened but it's the op's fault. She saw where it was when she sat down...

How do you it was used " properly " ? It is a piece of hardware mounted on the wall that thousands of people use without incident, one person cuts herself and now it's a design flaw, now I'm SMH. People get injured in numerous ways every day, we just don't all think we have to blame someone else.

A picture would be interesting. I still don't visualize a gaping bleeding wound. A stitch or two might have been a safety net, but obviously it could not have been huge. While this wound was "bleeding", she took the time to "clean up the area"? You can't wipe up blood with dry toilet paper.

Is this a design only on the Sunshine?

I have been on 10 Carnival cruises and never had this issue....and I have been fairly intoxicated on a few as well and still not had a problem. I am sorry you had this happen to you but it was an accident. Sounds like Carnival infirmary told you what should be done and you did not heed that advice. We all have choices and unfortunately it sounds like you didn't make the right one. Hope you feel better soon.

 

First off, the mounting heights are in a position that could and did cause injury. A few women I talked with stated they had problems with the restrooms, snagging or cutting their clothing on this specific toilet accessory.

 

Secondly, I notified my cabin steward of the problem in which he responded in a timely manner. I was unaware that I was required to notify Guest Services of a problem what was efficiently and to the best of his ability handled by my room steward.

I agree with you (although I guess I hear about plumbing problems on cruise ships a whole lot more than I hear about them in hotels). However, I think you're missing the point. I think the poster was simply saying that rather endure the hot-cold-hot for that day, to use the spa shower. Then once you've taken care of your morning routine, go find the right person to report the problem to.

 

In addition, given that despite the initial report, the problem persisted, the passenger is still left with the question of where to shower while it is being repaired. It doesn't do much good to "expect" the plumbing to work if, in fact, it does not work. I think the spa shower is an excellent interim solution while the problem is being assessed and repaired.
