This would be nice to have available on the TV in the room

They had all of this on the TV on the Getaway.

They even had a link to the casino on the TV and you could play slots right in the room, charged or 'credited' to your onboard account. I stayed away from that!

I'm torn on this one. As much as it would be nice to get ahold of my husband when we split to do different things this does ruin one of my fav things about going on vacation. We are glued to our phones with work at home. I love that as soon as we board we both turn them off and put them in the safe until we debark. We talk more, and I love it! We haven't really had too much issue, as for how big a ship is, it also isn't that big. When we separate, I might say I'm going to the sales in the promenade and then back to the cabin. If my plans change i go back to my DH and let him know where I am off to. It's good exercise to walk off those extra meals we sneak in too :) plus if I can't find my DH I know where to find him, at the pool with a bucket of beers or at the craps table

Agree with this one wholeheartedly.

Also, one of the things I enjoy is not having to carry around a phone with me like I do on a day to day basis. Gives me a feeling of freedom!!

Even with kids along we have always been able to keep in touch with notes, nightly plans etc.

I think that it is a great idea.

For those that do not want to include technology on their cruise - no one is going to force you to use the ap and text one another!

I must say that I find this holier than thou attitude of some folks regarding connectivity very strange. Just because your life allows you to 'disconnect' for the duration of your cruise, does not mean that other people can or want to do that.

Live and let live as long as people are respectful to others regarding using inside voices while on the phone.

If that was the norm I'd not dislike the idea - but often that's not the case.

Case in point - we were delayed on a runway for over an hour not long ago. A woman in the row in front of us was loudly planning a family get-together and arguing with the person on the other end of the phone connection for the entire time. It was very unpleasant!!

Inside voices and texting not a problem but I'm not too optimistic about the outcome of the "talk". :)

Why not offer Visual Paging Kiosks. If there is an emergency you can chose Urgent Message and an automated message would come over the PA asking so and so to go to the nearest visual paging system. or Guest Services. This is of course confirmed by someone in Guest Services to really see if its a true emergency.

Otherwise you could have an "Inbox" on this system setup under your Room Number. A threaded message could be started like text messaging. All you would do is write a message and then the person who wrote the message can read the reply.

You could tell your cabinmates or Children to check the Visual Paging kiosk every x hours etc. Or if they are going to be somewhere like the Teen Club just to leave a message on the Visual Paging System. The Visual Paging Kiosk could be tied in with your stateroom's Voicemail System and you could check messages there just like a Voicemail message the Visual Paging Message would be read to you.

Via your voice you could reply to the message. At the Visual Paging Kiosk you could see if someone left you a Voicemail As well.

What is nice about these kiosks is if there is an important message about your upcoming specialty dining or an "All Cruise Ship" system you could read the message either from the kiosk or on your interactive tv etc.

In an emergency all stateroom phone's speakerphones would activate just like in companies or if your cabinmate could not reach you via ringing the phone a staffmember could automatically activate the speakerphone as well.

What are your thoughts about this? The current Wayfiniding system can be used as Visual Paging.

Yeah, for some reason people on cell phones think they need need to talk extra loud. Maybe it has to do with background noise making it difficult for them to hear and their assuming the other person can't hear either. Don't know, but it is annoying and we should all try to be aware of others around us.

PLEASE NO!!! An emergency will be defined by (some) parents as "I can't find junior, he's lost and I know he's scared, please page him!" With over 4,000 passengers on Quantum, I envision essentially non-stop paging!

I would be happy to see this. As long as I was allowed to slap people in the back of the head and throw their phone overboard when they insist on yelling into their phone in my presence.

I would not mind that, but some would want to do this......
