overthehillcruiser Posted March 24, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 24, 2014 We are not smokers and I have nothing against smokers. This is just about what the real deal is ? We were on Triumph in Oct, someone smoking a cigar on balcony, told by guest services it was not allowed,so I checked CCL website. It says it is allowed. Called CCL. They said ship was wrong. Went on Magic 3-16-14..Funtimes clearly states cigar smoking is only allowed on deck 5 , Lanai , portside. Checked website again, says it is allowed, called CCL again, lady tells me it is up to the individual ship. What the heck is the right answer ?
jakeT Posted March 24, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 24, 2014 Different ships have different policy's on where you CAN smoke on the ship. All have smoking on Baloncys, and casino. Some ship on one side of one of the pools. Other can not smoke by the pool. Only on certain area of certain decks
KPfromCT Posted March 24, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 24, 2014 DH always has a cigar or five on the balcony. We have never been told that this was not allowed.
Disconnections Posted March 24, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 24, 2014 You can also smoke in your stateroom. There will just be a $250 cleaning fee at the end of your cruise. It is frowned upon, but they won't do anything more than charge you a cleaning fee.

Did you do this?:eek::eek: I was wondering if this rule applied to people "sneaking", and if the steward smelt it, or caught you, you paid the $250. So you can smoke ALL week in your stateroom, with no problems, and just pay the $250? Yikes!!!!!

No, I don't smoke. I think it is disgusting, but I have no problem with those who do. It is their right and up to them.
1313steve Posted March 24, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 24, 2014 This is straight from Carnival's website. As you can read below "Guests in balcony staterooms may smoke (including cigars) outside on their balcony." Effective June 15, 2011, cigarette smoking in public venues will only be permitted in Carnival’s dance clubs as well as in designated areas within the casino and casino bar. Smoking (including cigars) will be permitted in designated exterior open deck areas (starboard side) of all our ships. Additionally, smoking will also be allowed in the jazz clubs of the following ships: Carnival Destiny, Carnival Triumph, Carnival Victory, Carnival Conquest, Carnival Glory, Carnival Valor, Carnival Liberty, Carnival Freedom, and Carnival Splendor. * All Spa Suites and Staterooms, inclusive of the balconies, are an entirely smoke-free environment. Spa suites and staterooms are on the following ships only: Carnival Splendor, Carnival Dream, Carnival Breeze and Carnival Sunshine. * Effective December 1, 2011, smoking will be prohibited in all guest staterooms. Guests in balcony staterooms may smoke (including cigars) outside on their balcony. Guests who smoke in their staterooms will be assessed a $250 USD cleaning and refreshing fee on their Sail & Sign account. Information on this fee is included in Carnival’s ticket contract. Note: Electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes are only allowed in the designated smoking areas.
overthehillcruiser Posted March 24, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted March 24, 2014 I agree. This was the reason for my thread, and again was told by Carnival by phone today that the ship rule overrides the CCL website rule, thus very confusing. Again, Magic funtimes clearly states cigars and pipes can ONLY be smoked in Lanai deck 5 portside.. This is straight from Carnival's website. 1313steve Posted March 24, 2014 #9 Share Posted March 24, 2014 The confusion seems to be in which PUBLIC areas cigars can be smoked. The ships all have several areas for cigarette smoking, but often only one PUBLIC area that also allows cigar smoking. Balconies are OK for cigar smoking. That's consistent across the fleet. I think what the person on the phone was trying to say is that ships rules regarding where cigars can be smoked in public area trump what may be on the web site. They do sometimes change the smoking areas when in port when they are bunkering (fueling).

It is frowned upon, but they won't do anything more than charge you a cleaning fee. I always thought it was $250 per incident. Even if its not, their documentation says they can kick you off the boat for it Smoking is prohibited in all public areas except in designated exterior open deck areas, certain dance and jazz clubs, and designated areas in the casino. The Spa suite and stateroom accommodations are an entirely smoke free environment, including the outside balcony. Effective December 1, 2011 smoking is prohibited in all staterooms. Beginning December 1, 2011, Guests with a balcony stateroom may only smoke outside on their balcony. Guest agrees to strictly comply with Carnival’s non-smoking policy. Guest further acknowledges and agrees that any violation of this policy shall, in the sole discretion of Carnival, constitute a material breach of this cruise contract. In the event of such breach, Guest forfeits all rights hereunder, including the right to remain on board. Carnival reserves the right to disembark the Guest(s), at any port, as determined by Carnival. Carnival shall not be liable for any refund or other compensation or damages whatsoever to any Guest disembarked pursuant to this provision, or who disembarks because another Guest is so disembarked, and all such Guests forfeit all rights under Carnival’s “Vacation Guarantee.” Guest and Carnival further agree that any violation of the non-smoking policy would also cause Carnival to incur damages, including but not limited to, loss of Guest goodwill, revenue, cleaning, maintenance and/or other costs. Guest and Carnival expressly acknowledge the difficulty of ascertaining the amount of such damages, and therefore agree that a reasonable estimate of the damages for any violation of the non-smoking policy is $250 USD. Guest authorizes a charge in this amount as liquidated damages, as well as repatriation expenses (including airfare) against Guest’s on board charge account, without further notice, for any violation of the non-smoking policy. overthehillcruiser Posted March 25, 2014 Author #11 Share Posted March 25, 2014 (edited) Sorry to disagree, but you cannot smoke cigars or pipes on the Magic as per guest services and CCL funtimes....It is clearly stated and guest services confirmed it. Again CCL rep on phone said CCL website rules are OVERRIDDEN by ship rules..The word ONLY in Lanai is what is important, ONLY can be smoked there, NOT on balconies of this ship.. morganboys Posted March 25, 2014 #12 Share Posted March 25, 2014 you called carnival multiple times to argue this fact? makes no sense. I will worry about a smoking policy when & if it ever affects my cruise. then I would check with those carnival folks on the ship I was on and go from there. would find no need to call carnival multiple times and debate their policies. One evening while I was smoking, the cabin steward even commented on it, saying he was glad I was enjoying the cruise and our balcony. I can't for the life of me figure out why you are trying to make such a big deal out of it. Oh well, I'm going to smoke a cigar!!!!:D

bdever Posted March 25, 2014 #17 Share Posted March 25, 2014 I want to know why CCL has a problem with me smoking a non-tobacco electronic cigarette that has not odor, no smoke, and no ash anywhere other than the "Smoking Section." Really????? I quit regular cigarettes and NOW I am supposed to be subjected to second-hand smoke?!?!? SMH!!!! By the way, I smoke the electronic in my cabin (like a chimney) and manage to avoid the $250.00 cleaning fee :p Duh right?

By the way, I smoke the electronic in my cabin (like a chimney) and manage to avoid the $250.00 cleaning fee :p Duh right? Many of my friends discreetly use their E - Cigs in "nonsmoking" places without issue. The reason Carnival currently says "smoking areas only" is for 2 reasons: 1) to prevent the staff and crew from having to chase down every puff of smoke to verify it is real or E.... 2) sadly there would be additional problems with smokers seeing the "puff" and assuming it is a real cigarette and then lighting up themselves. The " well I saw them doing it" would just add a whole new can of worms that staff and crew do not have the time to handle and should not have to handle. I am hoping that when E-Cigarettes become common place, this restriction will be lifted because that is what E-Cigs are designed for. I do not smoke, but I have pushed for years for Carnival to sell E-Cigs at the bar. It would be a win/win for smokers and nonsmokers alike AND would make Carnival money. Sure looks like they should know ? Anyway, probably time to close this discussion before I upset many more people.. I have found the people at guest services are for the most part poorly informed on the rules of the ship. I have heard them give wrong information such as you received before. They are great for some things like if you lost your s&s card, but I find if you have a question on rules, you do better askin the cd. The only public place is advertised in the fun times mainly for those cigar smokers who do not have a balcony. If you want to avoid smoking on the balcony, you should always book a spa balcony. bdever Posted April 1, 2014 #25 Share Posted April 1, 2014 (edited) I think LHP put it best when stating: "Many of my friends discreetly use their E - Cigs in "nonsmoking" places without issue." The key word here being discretely. There are a few places in LA that still don't enforce the e-cig ban and those are the places I frequent most. LHP, I am with you 100% on the below. Hopefully e-cigs will become more common and widely accepted over time. "The reason Carnival currently says "smoking areas only" is for 2 reasons: 1) to prevent the staff and crew from having to chase down every puff of smoke to verify it is real or E.... 2) sadly there would be additional problems with smokers seeing the "puff" and assuming it is a real cigarette and then lighting up themselves. This is such a GREAT idea LHP!!!! I hope they take your advice! That would be a total win-win, especially if some smokers of traditional cigarettes were converted in the process :) Edited April 1, 2014 by bdever
