Does anyone know how far it is from the port at Cozumel to Chankanaab Park. Was thinking of booking the dolphin excursion through the park but I wasn't sure what was involved in getting there.

It depends on where you dock. I have only been there on Carnival ships that dock at Puerto Maya.

RCL uses a different dock, but even that will not add more than 5 minutes to the taxi ride to Chankanaab.

Walk thru your dock area and find the taxi stand. There should be a 'taxi boss' who will ask where you want to go and will tell you the price. Prices are fixed and reasonable.

I would estimate no more than 15 minutes to Chankanaab....more likely 10 minutes, from your ship.

A full (4 person) cab from the Carnival dock is in the $10-12 range (each way). There are van-type taxis, too, for more money if you need the room. Taxis drop you at the front gate where you can pick up your Dolphin tickets and any in your party who are not doing the Dolphin thing can pay their admission.

To return to your ship you go out the front gate and flag down another taxi.

If you are at Puerta Maya or the International Pier the cab to Chankanaab will be $10. If you are at Punta Langosta the cab will be $12. It is not a very long ride from either port. (Carnival and RCI are usually at Puerta Maya or International, which are next to each other. Disney and Norw. were usually at Punta Langosta).

We just got home from a week's stay in Coz so these are up to date cab fares. Cab fares are set and non negotiable. Just be sure you confirm the amount when you get in the cab. We used cab service all week and never had an issue. All of the drivers we had were very friendly!

Of course it depends on the amount of people in your party too, then the prices go up. :)

Oh yes, of course...we were a party of 2. Our hotel to downtown was $8 and we shared a cab with another couple once thinking it would save us a couple bucks...but they said the price was $8 per couple. If we had been a family of 4 I'm not sure if it would have still been $16 or if they charged us $16 because it was obvious we weren't together...lol

They have fixed rates that include the first 4 people for a price. Then once you add the 5th person, the rate changes. Then after 6-8 (I believe) the price changes again. :)

When we wer there in December I think the cab fare from RCCL's port ot Chank was 10 or 12 dollars when we went there just the 2 of us. On the way back we doubled up with another couple and the overall cost was more but spliting the cost made it cheaper. Think we paid 16 back 8 each.

DIY is piece of cake, there are lots of taxis as you exit terminal. For us it was 15 US dollars and about 15' ride. We got off the ship before all the tours and got to the park and it was deserted. Had our pick of the covered chairs right in front of the snorkel entrance. In the end we broke down and did the dolphin swim. If you can do it very early or very late and you could get smaller group.

Then the cruise ship came around 10:30ish and it was packed from then to about 2pm, and then we had the beac all to ourselves again.

I was a bit worried about catching a taxi back at 3pm but there was a huge line of them at the park waiting for fares.

We were on the Oasis and it docked at the International Pier. There was also a Carnival ship docked there. It takes about 10 minutes from this pier and was $11 one way. When you come out of the Park, there are plenty of cabs to take you back to the Pier.

We just did this last week and were at the International Pier. It took about 10/15 minutes and cost $11 one way. Make sure you have smaller bills though. We must have been the first ride of the day though because when we gave him a $20 he had no change except for 500 pesos. So needless to say he got a pretty decent tip. On the way back it wasn't the big of a deal because after running around all day he had change for us.

Funny how cab drivers around the globe always seem to be running out of change.

This will be the case no matter what time of day you are there. They all claim they don't have change, therefore not having the correct amount can really cost you. Always make sure you carry a lot of $1 bills for exact change. (We do this while shopping and even at the places we go at the beaches/resorts).
