Walkie Talkies on Ships (for advanced travelers))

Igor, since this is your first cruise, don't you have any questions for the well traveled people on this board?

It seems so abrupt to just come in the first time with a big pitch for walkie talkies......

What ship are you booked on? Most people find those things very annoying. You can leave messages on the phone in the cabin......use those yellow stickies or notes on friend's cabin door, or just arrange to meet at a certain time and place. We've been in a large family group and it worked out fine.

Enjoy your cruise, just consider others on board. :)

P.S. I'd still like to know what ship and date you're cruising.........;)

i wouldnt have a full on convo on it, it would only be used for meetups and accidental split ups

Just hold your Mommy's hand really tight and you won't get lost! Seriously ... what part of 'we are not interested in this' do you not understand? You are the newbie to cruising, and most of us are the 'advanced cruisers'! Walking around with a walkie talkie - no matter how sophisticated - is akin to wearing a fanny pack while out shopping in a foreign port. It screams "I AM NEW TO TRAVELLING!"

Relax. The first day when you board the ship, you and your friends will find your 'meet up location'. After that now matter how large the ship - and see my signature, I have been on the biggest in the world - you will find your friends. Pool/casino/cabin etc - there really aren't that many places to be. :)

According to their first post, it's in the planning, didn't even give a hint as to what they might be looking at, i.e., when, where, who, what. Rather odd that they found this forum while looking for walkie takies on ships when they haven't cruised yet, know nothing about cruising or if there is even a need for walkie talkies. Just seems like the OP is obssessed with wt's.:D

If you Google "walkie talkie cruise ship" the first item is a list of Cruise Critic discussions. That must have motivated the OP to join so he could educate the "advanced travelers" because knows so much more than we do.

My main issue with walkie talkies is the users don't seem to give a fig about emergency frequencies in other countries as long as they can meet up for pizza.

who gives a

you'll be in on shore for one day nobody is going to try to catch you

I think you guys might be right, but i will still bring a pair, if not for the ship then at least for the shore

I feel like you are not even reading what I am saying, I am recommending professional ham radios, not family 7 channel walkie talkies, of course you can listen to those with a pro ham radio

Advanced travelers know that walkie talkies are useless on cruise ships. It is much easier to say, " if you need me, I'll be in the casino or serenity area. If we accidentally get split up, I'll meet you in the room an hour before dinner."

I'm another who feels that "advanced travelers" know they don't need walkie talkies on cruises. From previous discussions on the topic, it is 'newbies' who are concerned/obsessed about keeping in contact with walkie talkies.

Absolutely correct!!!

Nothing more to add here other than that "walkie talkie" sounds funny - not like something that grown-ups should be carrying around. Unless they put it in their pursey-wursey (which matches their shoesie woosies).

well i did interchangeably call it a transceiver and radio

I fired up my crystal ball tonight and I saw into the OP's future:

BAHAHHAHAHAH funny! my god that would be terrible, medical school actually, so i wont be needing walkies
