amweather Posted April 20, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 20, 2014 We are going on the Panama Canal cruise with Princess on November 26, 2014. We will be staying in Fort Lauderdale for 3 nights before the cruise. Would anyone know of any good hotel deals with a shuttle service to the pier? Also being as we have not been there before are these hotels in an area where we could find good entertainment?
Langley Cruisers Posted April 20, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 20, 2014 Hi there, please feel free to read the Florida Departures board. There is so much good information there, and honestly, every other thread is about Fort Lauderdale hotels. It is discussed daily. :) I will give you the link below and you can read the thread titles, click on the ones you want, read, do your research, make your notes, go to the websites, get prices, and make your decision. Have fun. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=495 <--click here .

I have read that some of them will charge $9 or more per person, whereas a taxi would cost less - somewhere around $15. Also being as we have not been there before are these hotels in an area where we could find good entertainment? We stayed at Courtyard by Marriott on Ft Lauderdale Beach. Everything is nearby, beach, river taxis, entertainment and shopping. Taxi to pier around 15.00 and hotel for around 200.00.:)
wassup4565 Posted April 21, 2014 #5 Share Posted April 21, 2014 There are several hotels on 17th street. We've stayed at both the Embassy and Extended Stay. This is a good area pre-cruise, as it is not very far from the airport and some hotels do have shuttles from the airport to hotel. And the cab fare is only about $20 from the airport. We like the area because it is safe to walk in and there are a lot of stores and restaurants all around. You can also walk to the water taxi stop to take that tour of the inter-coastal. Lots to do, and handy for last-minute shopping. As a previous poster noted, some hotels charge per person for the shuttle to the cruiseport, and taking a taxi is in the same price range. Rare Azulann Posted April 21, 2014 #6 Share Posted April 21, 2014 Have stayed at the Gallery One-double tree. It is next to Galleria mall. has a taxi stop on the grounds. Also stayed in Jan at Aqua Hotel. It is a retro fifties hotel one block from beach. Fabulous service, two nice pools and I now have a new hotel to return to in future years. Cehck out their reviews on Trip Advisors.
CheckersMidwest Posted April 22, 2014 #7 Share Posted April 22, 2014 We stayed with old college friends when we were in Ft Lauderdale last summer so can't help you with the hotel. However, they took us to the Hard Rock area. Wow. Just wow. It was amazing - casino, entertainment, shopping, restaurants, laser lights, etc. It was a great place to wander around at night after dinner. Treven Posted April 22, 2014 #8 Share Posted April 22, 2014 My vote is for the Marriott Renaissance on 17th. It's close to the pier(s), restaurants within walking distance, and a Walgreens right across the street for those munchy attacks or little forgot to pack items. The Renaissance is my base of operations whenever I cruise out of FLL.
Rare Roz Posted April 22, 2014 #9 Share Posted April 22, 2014 Are you sailing during high season (basically winter)? If so, the deals on hotels in FL are far and few between. The airport, hotel area (17th St.), and cruise terminals are relatively close together. Therefore, most hotels don't offer free shuttle service to both the airport and cruiseport. Beachdude Posted April 22, 2014 #10 Share Posted April 22, 2014 You might consider renting a car since you are staying three days. That will give you a lot of freedom for shopping and entertainment, and most of the car rentals provide free shuttles to the ship when you turn your car in. sail7seas Posted April 22, 2014 #11 Share Posted April 22, 2014 Keep in mind some hotels, such as Hyatt Pier 66, charges a per night charge to park your car.
Beachdude Posted April 22, 2014 #12 Share Posted April 22, 2014 Keep in mind some hotels, such as Hyatt Pier 66, charges a per night charge to park your car. Yes, this is true. But you aren't limited to hotels on 17th st or near the pier, so you can expand your hotel search. We sometimes stay at some very nice five star resort hotels down the beach and have even spent a night or two on South Beach for a different experience. Lots of options, but we typically stay in Ft. Lauderdale two three days on each cruise because we enjoy the area so much. Nothing like taking an early morning stroll to breakfast in an open cafe with your spouse. I think the wine and food festival is pretty soon nad that is a lot of fun. What ever you choose, have a wonderful visit. We always do. Roz Book early, is my advice. The longer you leave it the more you will pay on 17th.
