Glorious cruise review

Recommended Posts

This was my first cruise and so will be my first review.

A little back ground information: I am 35, this was my first cruise ever and I am a chef. DH is also 35, this was his second cruise (both carnival) and works as a dispatcher for the local police.

We drove from Lafayette, IN to Jacksonville, Fl. for a family reunion. DH and I got up and on the road Sunday at 6am to drive from Jacksonville to Miami. We got to Miami about 10:30am and headed straight to or parking lot. I chose safe cruise parking and while it looked a bit shady everything was fine with our car. They charged $10 each for round trip shuttle service to the port. ry%3D400 We got to the port and on the ship in about an hours time. As we did not to fttf our room was not ready so we headed to the lido buffet for lunch. I am just going to say this now...Guy's Burgers are the best burgers I have ever had......ry%3D400

Here are some pictures of the old glory atrium. ry%3D400

After eating we headed to the casino to wait for our room to get ready.

At 1:30 we went to our room on the Lido deck room 9-231. We had an interior room and while it may have been nice to have a balcony the room was quiet and perfect for us.

Muster drill was outside on deck 3 and took to long to get started in my opinion. After muster we headed up to serenity to watch sail away.

We hung out on the serenity deck until it was time to go to dinner. We had late dining in the Platinum dining room.

Now lets talk American Table and American Feast. I have never tried the old menus but I found the new ones to be quite good. Our tables didn't have table clothes on American table nights but I thought the tables looked rather nice without them. ry%3D400

ry%3D400

The bread baskets were brought to our table every night with a nice selection of bread. ry%3D400

I forgot to take a picture of the menu this night so I don't remember the name of my first entree but I can tell you that my husband and I both had shrimp cocktail for a starter. ry%3D400

I had a beef dish with a side of ratatouille. DH had grilled chicken and garlic fries for our entrees. Our waiter informed us that we needed to order sides so we did every night. ry%3D400

We were both happy with the dishes although I didn't enjoy the ratatouille. Our food was always hot and came fairly quickly. For dessert I had Nutella tiramisu and DH had Chocolate Melting cake. ry%3D400

Day 2: Fun day at sea...

To be honest most of this day was spent in our cabin sleeping due to all the traveling we had done the several days prior. I did order room service breakfast that morning. Some fresh melon and toast. ry%3D400

ry%3D400

We did go to the Sea Day brunch around 10:30 and that food was awesome. I have no pictures of that food because DH made me promise not to take pictures since we weren't sitting alone. (thankfully we had a table for 2 at dinner or I would have had to break that promise) I had Steak and Eggs which were wonderful, DH had the Pancakes that he said were just ok.

The rest of the day was either spent reading on the serenity in one of the hammocks or napping in our room. That night for dinner was Elegant night.

The tables were beautiful with the table clothes and we had a silver starfish on our table.

ry%3D400

We were given Mango Champagne for a toast a little later in service that was ok (not a champagne fan)ry%3D400

I did remember to get a pic of the menu this night.

Day 3 Cozumel: This was my favorite port day because we checked something off my bucket list. Swimming with dolphins. We booked this excursion through chankanaab park not through carnival. We saved quite a bit of money by doing this. We split a cab with another couple on the way there and saved a bit of money. This is a wonderful excursion, the trainers are good and our dolphin Louie was sweet as can be. I highly recommend this excursion. The only down side was the ridiculous price of pictures. One [picture was 38 dollars. The park itself was pretty cool as well. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a4db28b3127ccef647322cb73f00000030O00AcOWLJy3ZuW4Pbz4I/cC/f%3D0/ls%3D00709379219820140509211749369.JPG/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/

After getting back on board we found a clam shell on the serenity deck and read until sail away.http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a4db28b3127ccef64773b8f71300000030O00AcOWLJy3ZuW4Pbz4I/cC/f%3D0/ls%3D00709379219820140509212317310.JPG/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/

For our main course we both had the new York strip and twice baked potato. It was wonderful with the roasted garlic on top. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a4db28b3127ccef647f42bb75b00000030O00AcOWLJy3ZuW4Pbz4I/cC/f%3D0/ls%3D00709379219820140509212406112.JPG/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/

For dessert Dh had melting cake and I had a strawberry almond cake with cold rhubarb soup. This dessert was gross. It was dry and to almondie and the rhubarb soup was not good. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a4db28b3127ccef646fd1c568c00000030O00AcOWLJy3ZuW4Pbz4I/cC/f%3D0/ls%3D00709379219820140509212420772.JPG/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ after the long day it was back to our room and a new towel friend http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a4db28b3127ccef646fdd1d77100000030O00AcOWLJy3ZuW4Pbz4I/cC/f%3D0/ls%3D00709379219820140509212425834.JPG/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/

day 4: what an unBELIZEably good time.

I don't have alot of pics of the Belize countryside because DH insisted upon sitting by the window and they are all on his phone. We went to xunantunich booked through carnival since it is a two hour ride there and back. This was DH's favorite day. We met in the Amber Palace to wait for our tender.

ry%3D400

We tendered in and then was shuttled right to our bus and off we went. Our tour guide JR was fantastic. He told us about his country, its people and thier culture, so much so that I couldn't even think of a question to ask. When we arrived at the river to get to the ruins we disembarked the bus and walked onto the ferry.

ry%3D400

ry%3D400

we took a small van on the other side of the river up a hill to the enterance to the ruins. It was alot of walking and due to a bad knee I didn't get to climb the ruins but DH did.

ry%3D400

ry%3D400

After visiting the site they took us to a local restaurant for lunch. The food was actually very good. ry%3D400

Then it was a two hour drive back to port where we had to get straight on a tender back to the boat. Overall it was a wonderful day in belize.
