Forward vs aft

Looking at an inside room on the jewel. Have to choose forward or aft. Any suggestions??

We normally stay mid ship but non open.

Thanks

I think the farther forward you are the more likely you will be to feel the motion of the ship in rough seas if that matters. Higher decks would tend to amplify that as well.

If you are looking at a cabin on level 4 or lower and think you might be one of the people who find the vibration from the turbines and shafts that propel the ship soothing rather than annoying, then go aft. Otherwise, go forward.

What sail date are you looking at?

I took a guarantee on a radiance class ship(Brilliance) twice and got fantastic cabins that I have booked again for different cruises. Deck 2 was super quiet and super convenient. Deck 3 has two oversized sideways insides on the starboard aft - I measured the cabin at about 190 sq ft. - wonderful for a 15 day cruise but more walking.

Jewel is a great ship been both aft and forward and balcony. All were great. if I remember correctly the ding from the elevator may be heard if forward so watch for that wherever you book your cabin. Have fun. :D

Aft can get some vibration depending on if prop shaft driven or azipods and front moves a lot

Mid area is smoother just watch lift locations near you and anything above you for noise at night

Also not too close to centrum re noise

I've sailed many insides, both forward and aft, high decks and low decks. The deck is more important to me than forward or aft... so decks 7-10 anywhere insides so that the pool/sports/Windjammer/Viking Crown decks above as well as the Centrum/shops/dinner venues/Theatre/club lounges/etc are accessible only 1 or 2 decks up or down without elevator.

On my only Radiance class cruise, I was in 8515 forward. I spent most of my time in the sports court, Viking Crown, back of the ship (Windjammer outside seating), etc. I personally would've preferred closer to the Centrum or rear elevators, but it was still great and easy to get everywhere with a short walk across the Solarium & pool deck, or through the Casino.

On Rhapsody I've been deck 2 and deck 8 for example... by far and away I liked deck 8 better as you are much much closer to things, changing into swim gear, getting stuff if you forget, etc etc. Just my preference :)

We were in room 3002 on Jewel last year and LOVED it. Yes, we could hear the anchor drop but, other than that, it was silent enough to hear a pin drop. At one point the seas got a little choppy and we could hear the waves rhythmically slap the side of the boat but the motion was just a little light rocking, nothing awful.

The elevators are farther away so it's a longer walk, but we decided to view it as extra exercise to burn off all the rich food we were eating. :)

I'd get the same room again in a heartbeat.

Aft you hear and feel the vibration due to the engine, front is quiet. Aft elivators are much more crowded than front elivators as the food is in the aft.

Agreed 100%. I always take rooms that are more forward. The anchor will only be an iussue for the occassional tender port. Not an issue at sea or when you are docked.

Exactly -- and even then it only takes a few seconds to deploy.

We have been in inside [once], ocean view, balcony and JS cabins. Far enough forward that the hallways were pointy and while never in an aft facing balcony, we have been within 2 or 3 doors from the back. Personally I have never had a problem with noise or vibration on an RCI ship. Since there is no direct drive shaft from the engines [actually no mechanical connection] on Radiance class and newer ships, you really should not have much of an issue unless there is a problem, like a worn bearing or bent propeller blade.

I am not particularly sensitive to motion, so location is not a big deal to me. If you are sensitive to motion, the lower and more to the middle the better. Midship OV on 3 would be a great choice. If you are sensitive to longer walks, then get close to the things you want to patronize. Personally, the cabin category and price are more important to me than location. But your mileage may vary.

Spent a week in an OV on 3 on Jewel and another week in a balcony on 8 on Radiance. Both were fairly well aft. Very pleased with both.
