On the Eclipse, we took the Blue Lagoon excursion from Celebrity at 7:30 am. It was fantastic. We were enjoying the Blue Lagoon by 8:15 am. The crowds did not start until 9 am. What a great time we had.

FYI, there are private showers in the back. It was such a wonderful experience.

Last summer we went to the Blue Lagoon during a 3 day stay in Iceland and we absolutely LOVED it!! So this year we're going to visit again, only this time we're staying at the Blue Lagoon Clinic Hotel. :D The hotel is very lovely, with only 15 rooms available. Each room has a porch that looks out over the lava fields. There is a smaller private lagoon (just like the public one) at the hotel for the exclusive use of guests. Included in the price of the room is a lovely Icelandic breakfast buffet and free admission to the public lagoon! We're so excited to be able to spend 2 whole days relaxing in this most unusual spa. Can't wait to lather up with the silica again and sit in the water with a nice beverage. ;) Iceland is one of my favorite countries.

I didn't notice any sulfur smell at the Blue Lagoon. Horrible, horrible though if you get a drop of the water in your mouth.

There was more of a sulfur smell in some of the wash rooms at restaurants in town. I think at the Blue Lagoon, and in our hotel - they use good filters that get rid of the sulfur smell that occurs naturally in their water. Not every establishment will use those filters.

A couple suggestions. If you go, bring a watertight swim cap. The water will wreck your hair otherwise. Also, bring a cheap disposable waterproof camera. You will want pictures inside the lagoon, but I wouldn't chance using an expensive underwater camera in this water.

Just returned from the Infinity. Blue Lagoon was great! No noticeable sulphur smell.

There are steps and a hand rail to get in and out, the last step slightly higher than the first too. Some stones underneath when you first get in but smooth sand within a foot or two from steps. Enjoy!

My husband and I were, also, on Eclipse on the same cruise but went to Myvatn nature baths. Similar to the Blue Lagoon but less commercialised. There was the same smell of hydrogen sulphide (rotten eggs) and a little sulphur but the breeze quickly wafted it away. We met several fellow cruisers who had also been to the Blue lagoon but preferred here for its unspoilt, quiet look and feel. My psoriasis has been much improved since the visit! I would love to go here again.

Do keep the water away from your hair - it strips it of oils and turns it to straw.

The Blue Lagoon suggests putting conditioner all through your hair before entering the water. I did that and it was fine after I washed it out.

Visited the Blue Lagoon about 10 years back and had a great time.

Found out recently that due to increased tourism, the place outgrew its bathhouse.

Rather than knocking down and rebuilding, a brand new, larger facility was built at a nearby location. Then the geothermal water source was diverted to the new area, and a brand new "blue lagoon" was born!

After getting out of the Blue Lagoon, I used conditioner again during shower and again when we got back to the ship. No problem at all. Bathing suit was a different story - was washing silt? out of it even when we returned home.

Private shower was a great bonus after all the talk about open showers for everyone.

The wonderful part of this excursion was leaving the ship at 7:30 am and floating around at 8:15 am in a quiet uncrowded Blue Lagoon. When we were leaving, it was so crowded.

We had a fab time on our recent Eclipse cruise - unusually for us a Celebrity tour but we had lots of OBC! Actually it worked well as, like previous comments, we left at 7.30 and there by 8.15am. The building was specifically opened early for the tour. So we had the pool to ourselves until it opened at 9 am. A couple of points to take care about

1. If you are doing your own transport then prebook on line. There were so many trying to get in that they closed the pool to anyone who did not have a prebooking.

2. Take care not to get any of the mud in your eyes. A cruiser damaged their eyes because she rubbed them when the mud melted into them.

Tip - as you go out to the pool it is extremely cold however before you leave the building to the pool on your left there is a small indoor pool. It is actually an access to the outside without going out into the cold air. Places to hang your towel on the inside as well.

Lots of warnings of not being able to shower wearing your swimsuit - private showers available and most of us just kept our suits on anyway.

Hope this helps. It was a lovely experience and one of our highlights
