El Cheapo Cruises Thread

Recommended Posts

It doesn't matter how upper crust or how low brow we all are, one thing unites us and that is cruising and cheap cruises at that. Bring on El cheapo, or bargain, or whatever you want to call it. Show the love and share the deals.:D

Even we upper crust types relish a bargain...eh what?

The discerning amongst amonst our throng could do a lot worse than check out Swan Hellenics cruises on Minerva. They are offering 2 for 1 on selected Asian cruises.

Mic, actually I am an Upper Middle Bogan, cop that, I socialise quite well with the Upper Class Chavs on P&O UK.

I actually partake of my cider from a glass not the bottle.

A Cunarder I will never be, I have no desire to travel with those snobs. LOL.

Yes old son, share the love and the deals. !!!

Not technically a cheapo cruise idea, but just something to watch out for with old friends and relatives. There are some TAs that package up cruises with train travel etc. I am all for them offering a nice product, but the train from Perth to Sydney is not just "included" as a nice 80 year old close friend said when I was looking into a trip she is interested in. That train also has bunks that are hard for 80 year olds to get into apparently, twin share (so another TA said - have not experienced that personally).

So if a cruise package deal is going for $4500 roughly, and I can see it on my research for around $2000 cruise component, then the 3 night train trip, and one night accommodation after cruise, is not "included". The train trip pricing direct on their own website is over $500 a night for a pensioner! (approx. $1700+) What! We are talking Suite prices here!

Beware the "shop a docket" deals. They are not always suitable for your requirements. Not saying they don't have some good deals, just not always the deal that suits. When someone says "I can't afford a balcony", but is looking at an "included" train trip for that price, I am just shaking my head.

I have learnt so much on here. Thank you to all those that have contributed to me being able to cruise more. Those people that don't cruise but mumble "how can they afford it" just have to realise that you can afford it by hunting down deals, and saving. Yep, we have to save. Work and save. Not really a hard concept.

Oops, off soapbox now. :)

GUT, for medical reasons, being a Coeliac, I cannot drink beer as it contains Gluten, Cider does not.

Cider is on tap at some drinking establishments in Australia and in all pubs in the UK, hence the glass required, not the most hygienic thing to do, to suck on ye olde cider barrel tap !!

Upper Middle Bogan I am.

Mate it's not the cider that bothers me it's the glass, I suppose you use a knife and fork to eat as well . My goodness how fancy can you get.

Put a hold on it now! You'll get your deposit back this far out if it doesn't work out!

We have put a deposit on a cruise for April 2016 knowing that we may have to cancel if our family member moves from HK before then :(

I've been thinking about that gae but herself says $5,500 is too much to tie up on spec and if we miss out we'll probably do the big one the next year anyway.

Hmmm. A well known site, with six month deposit options is showing no Princess cruises. They showing all sold out. Is it my computer, broweser (though I have checked on Chrome and Firefox) and i get the same. I wonder whats happening there. Did someone accidently deleted the inventory or is their link down to Princess.
