Hi Folks....headed to St.Lucia in March. What' date=' if anything can be seen within a walking distance from the pier? The hot springs looked interesting, but I have not seen any positive comments re: them.[/quote']

There is very little within walking distance of the port. DEREK Walcott square and the Cathedral. There is a Beach about 15 minutes walk or so, but no facilities like chairs or such...Rodney Bay if you Enter beach and facilities. We thoroughly enjoy the mud batch and go at least once a month.... Yes they smell, it's sulphur. Yes they are hot, it's a volcano. Yes, your skin feels amazing afterwards

Enjoy, whatever you choose.

St Lucia is a lush interesting port to get out and explore, so pretty.

We took an all day tour with Cosol and felt for $75 we did it all and got a true bargain. Saw all over the island, learned a lot, tasted a huge variety of local foods, drank local beverages all day, went to the mud baths/volcano area all included in the cost. So glad we didn't do a cheaper option as we felt like we saw so much!

It seems like the true gems of St Lucia require you to be driven around some twisty terrain first.

Since this is your first time in St. Lucia, if you don't take a tour you would be cheating yourself of one of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean. St. Lucia is very rugged and looks very much like islands in the South Pacific. I urge you to take a day long tour (about 7 hours) and see the wonderful sights. I recommend Herod’s (Land & Sea Safari) as the best I have taken. The current cost is $85 per adult. His web site is: http://herodstours.com/

Other very good tour operators are: Cosol Tours http://www.cosol-tours.com/ and Spencer Ambrose http://spencerambrose.com/

You will be glad you took one of these tours.

I totally agree... Take a land and sea tour! Our tour on St Lucia was our all time favorite.

I absolutely agree. St Lucia is one of the most beautiful islands there is but you won't get a feel for it by just walking around the port. Very little to see besides overpriced gift (mostly jewelry) shops. The real beauty is in the island itself. We also did the land and sea tour with Herrod. Not to be missed.

Can you give directions to the nearby beach. Is the snorkeling good. Thanks

I'm putting together a private tour for a Roll Call group of 8 adults next March. We want a land/sea combination, but no swimming. I have offers from several vendors, but only Joe Knows offered a speedboat return option. Are there other operators that would put together such a custom land/sea tour for us? Which are most recommended? Thanks!

Spencer Ambrose, Son of Man tours, Serenity TVL, Real st Lucia Tours, Solar Tours and Travel, Barefoot Holidays, etc can all arrange a private tour for your group including/excluding the stops you like and providing a speed boat return. Spencer's Land and Sea tour is already a speedboat return, with van down....

Enjoy your visit.

The nearby beach is Vigie Beach, and no, there is no snorkeling at all at this beach, or most beaches in the north end of the island.

To get to Vigie from Pointe Seraphine (one story cruise port) Exit the shops, follow the road out to the gas station, turn left and follow the highway till you get to the airport runway. Turn right, follow the airport runway till you get to the round-a-bout. Turn left and head around the end of the runway, then a left again on the road and walk down past the cemetery and down to the beach - can't miss it. Ask anyone if you feel lost - but it's virtually impossible to miss as you can see the beach across the airport runway....

From La Place Caranage (two story cruise dock): exit the shops, and turn left. Walk along the highway to the craft market, hang a left and walk along the waterfront- keep going past the waterfront, over the small bridge and you'll come to the same gas station from above.....follow above directions.

It is very much a local beach, there are no chair or umbrella rentals, and for food & drink, you'll need to head down towards the entrance of the airport for the local food and rum shacks. Lots of great natural shade from the many trees. Calm swimming waters, etc. Facilities can be found at the airport.

Enjoy your visit.
