By The Bay Posted January 13, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 13, 2015 My cruise instructions tell me that we embark at Darling Harbor Passenger Terminal Wharf 8. Is this the same as White Bay Terminal? Thanks. Darling Harbour is separate from White Bay. Here is a link to a map that shows the location of Wharf 8 at DH.https://www.darlingharbour.com/media/286278/Darling-Harbour-Map-Online-Master-July-2014.pdf

The_Big_M Posted January 14, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 14, 2015 Sounds like it could be the old Wharf 8, near Darling Harbour, which was used by cruise ships. This no longer exists, so could you check current documentation or advise which cruise.
By The Bay Posted January 14, 2015 #5 Share Posted January 14, 2015 Have you not looked at the map I linked to in post #2? It is not the old Barangroo wharf. According to the map, Wharf 8 It is located between the Star Casino and the Maritime Museum.
The_Big_M Posted January 14, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 14, 2015 (edited) Have you not looked at the map I linked to in post #2? It is not the old Barangroo wharf. According to the map, Wharf 8 It is located between the Star Casino and the Maritime Museum. I did have a look at the map. You even can see the reference to Wharf 8 for cruise ships in grid A2 of that map. The other wharf 8 you refer to has not been used for cruise ships. It's unlikely it's the one here as it isn't set up for it, and we haven't seen any other references to it. Hence, I suspect the OP has an old reference to the Wharf 8 for cruise ships, which was referred to as being at Darling Harbour. Yes there is a "wharf 8" at Darling Harbour but it is not a cruise terminal, it is part of the National Maritime Museum facilities. The only cruise terminal west if the bridge is the one at White Bay although some of the old finger wharves have been used in the past with overflow situations. I think more information is required before anyone can make a definitive answer.
By The Bay Posted January 14, 2015 #8 Share Posted January 14, 2015 Are you assuming the OP is arriving on a standard cruise liner, i.e. around 2000 pax? If it a small expedition ship it will be able to use wharf 8 at Darling Harbour. Maybe the OP can notify what ship he is traveling on.
Globaliser Posted January 14, 2015 #9 Share Posted January 14, 2015 Maybe the OP can notify what ship he is traveling on.It looks like it's Oceania's Marina - see this post.

If it a small expedition ship it will be able to use wharf 8 at Darling Harbour. Maybe the OP can notify what ship he is traveling on. That's what we'd asked to begin with, so as to not assume. Based on Globaliser's linked post, the ship will be tied up at White Bay. So the statement may well be based on old information, as the previous wharf for that cruise would have been the old Wharf 8 at Darling Harbour/Barangaroo. cassamanda Posted January 14, 2015 #12 Share Posted January 14, 2015 Sydney Ports has all the info now the Ship's name is known, http://www.sydneyports.com.au/port_operations/cruise_schedule In which case one could be fairly confident in suggesting that the ship will dock at White Bay as it has done this season. TERRIER1 Posted January 14, 2015 Author #13 Share Posted January 14, 2015 Thanks everyone. I agree that we are suppose to be at White Bay but our docs say Darling Harbour Passenger Terminal Wharf 8. The Oceania Marina is 1250 passengers - a mid size cruise ship. I googled a satellite picture of Darling Harbour and their was actually a cruise ship in the picture at the Passenger terminal. I don't know how old the picture is. I emailed Sydney Port Authority about Darling Harbour Passenger Terminal. I will post if I hear back. Once again, thanks. As said, wharf 8 was the old location for such cruise ships and likely in place when the ship's booking was made. White Bay opened a year or so back and replaced Wharf 8, Darling Harbour. Some systems have not been updated and still have the old information, as sounds to be the case with yourself. There are no longer ships at wharf 8, and in fact no access there, so your ship will be at White Bay. If Oceania is giving everybody that advice, they may wind up running some shuttle at wharf 8 though it would be just as likely there will be a mess-up on the day, and/or an urgent notification sent out just beforehand. If the advice is from your travel agent or some individual though, it should be disregarded. There are no check in facilities any more at the old Wharf 8 and as mentioned, no access, so in any case you would have to be transferred to White Bay so there would be no benefit to going to Wharf 8.
