t_car Posted March 11, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 11, 2015 I see some threads about particular cabins not to book, but very hard to decipher a thread with over 3,000 posts. So, here is one on areas where not to book. Please feel free to add to the list. 1. Below the Lido deck anywhere. From nighttime cleaning and prep work in the buffet area, to private parties by the pool and scraping of deck loungers, avoid being directly below this deck. 2. Below the galley area of the dining rooms. Cleaning and prep work will make for a sleepless night. 3. Directly above or below an entertainment lounge, or casino. Vibration and noise from speaker systems. 4. Right near elevators. Loud drunk and unruly folks finally going to bed at all hours of the night. 5. Lowest deck at the very back. Vibration and engine noise. This will be more specific to certain ships usually of older design. 6. Lower decks at the very front. In heavier seas, or if the captain is making up for lost time by speeding through the night, you feel the crash of every wave on the bow of the ship. BTW this happens a lot. Are there any other areas you would not stay on? Do you disagree with some of the above?
cb at sea Posted March 11, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 11, 2015 Near elevators on most ships is fine....most stairs/elevators are in a foyer...no added noise! Very convenient!
crystalspin Posted March 11, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 11, 2015 Agree with CB, last cruise our cabin was exactly at the "back" of the mid-ship elevator on Zaandam. Not a peep!
OCruisers Posted March 11, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 11, 2015 Near elevators on most ships is fine....most stairs/elevators are in a foyer...no added noise! Very convenient! Agree! We LOVE being across the hall from the elevator/stairs lobby. Never a noise problem for us. :) LuLu

serene56 Posted April 1, 2015 #7 Share Posted April 1, 2015 4. Right near elevators. Loud drunk and unruly folks finally going to bed at all hours of the night.? I do not agree with this. My cabin is always off the elevator area. I prefer the starboard side-- and across from where the firedoor is stored. If te loud unruly drunks are getting off the elevator do you think they get quiet once the door closes? they do not-- that manner of behavior will follow them down the hall until they get to their cabin
Raxter54 Posted April 5, 2015 #8 Share Posted April 5, 2015 (edited) 3. Directly above or below an entertainment lounge, or casino. Vibration and noise from speaker systems. Our room on the Serenade last February was an aft balcony directly over the Safari Nightclub. Never noticed any noise except for one night, could feel/hear the bass from the band. Not very loud, still slept well. YMMV... Edited April 5, 2015 by Raxter54
