any news on explorer?

Recommended Posts

Shocked to hear that smoking is still allowed in the casino and that it drifts into the other public areas.

Yep, it comes up the stair cases in the Promenade on the Freedom Class too.....

Still get some smokers on the balcony too...... although most seem to go to the casino now as it is smokier.

NikC,

Have you perhaps seen the new inside cabins on deck 3? (former night club..). I'm wondering how they look and if they are just like other inside cabins.

The reason I'm asking is that normally cabins are these pre-fab blocks, but I'm not sure if that's possible during a dry-dock. (you would need a large 'hole' in the side of the ship I assume...).

Thanks for sharing your pictures, would love to see more :)

NikC,

How is the ship looking in general? I know a number of people had said that she was quite rusty in places before going into dry dock...

The outside is gleaming, freshly painted and no rust in sight. I had a long look while in a bit of a queue to get back on board today :) I did notice a small amount of dirt in the solarium pool today, as someone has posted on Twitter, but it's nothing major. Our toilet had a similar sediment in it at one point too but that's cleared now.

I have noticed a few bits of woodwork that have been sanded and not yet varnished, but we're talking minor details here that to be honest shouldn't cause anyone to complain.

The poor room attendants are having their work cut out as an unavoidable symptom of new carpets is they are still shedding quite a lot of fibres so need constant vacuuming at the moment.

Sounds about what I'd expect to be honest. To put in new cabins and restaurants they'll have had to pull the plumbing apart and put it back together again.

Same with all the painting and sanding, bits will be done as the ship travels. On my last cruise on Liberty, 9 months after dry dock, they were vanishing hand-rails. It's part of ship life.

I did think the twitter complaints were a bit heavy handed, but hey ho. Glad you're having a good time!

NikC: Thanks for taking the time while on vacation to post all of the great photographs - the ship looks great.

One more drinks question, if you don't mind. Do you happen to know how much a basic well drink/mixer costs, such as G&T or Bourbon & Coke?

Hi...daft question.....we are on the all inclusive package and can see it is a little limited for wine...is it just a case of if you order a more expensive wine they charge you the difference or would you have to pay the whole amount? Alternatively I guess you could upgrade but not sure it's worth it...does anyone know? Thanks

Jayne I think you have to pay the full amount if you want a wine that's not on the package...the alternative is to upgrade your package...the next pack up is an extra $15 per day. I have this wine quandary also!
