spleenstomper Posted June 22, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 22, 2015 (edited) Trying to figure out how to keep up with the teens. Might have to go old school walkie talkies... We are just going 5 nights: progreso and cozumel from new orleans. Edited June 22, 2015 by spleenstomper
paul929207 Posted June 22, 2015 #2 Share Posted June 22, 2015 It varies by your plan, but most are about 50 cents for each text you send. Receiving is usually free or 5 cents.
Kamloops50 Posted June 22, 2015 #3 Share Posted June 22, 2015 Why not just use post-it notes on the door ?
Cruisin' Chick Posted June 22, 2015 #4 Share Posted June 22, 2015 On our last cruise, when girl was 15, we used pen and paper to keep each other informed. My girl had no interest in carrying around cell phone or any other device. She would let us know if interested in eating with us (she knew what time was our seating) or go to a show with us. And there was no way we would bring walkie talkies on a cruise ship.

cb at sea Posted June 23, 2015 #6 Share Posted June 23, 2015 Make tentative plans..meet for meals...PHYSICALLY SEE your kids...a walkie talkie or text tells you nothing...except what they want you to hear!
spleenstomper Posted June 23, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted June 23, 2015 True, true. They are older teens now, so I'm expecting no shenanigans. Last cruise the steward was very surprised to see me in the interior cabin: said he NEVER saw parents look in on their kids. Very unusual. Usually parents just let them run I guess.... Amandah1987 Posted June 23, 2015 #8 Share Posted June 23, 2015 I'll probably be texting the people I cruise with, since we are in different rooms, on different decks I'm really not going to carry a Walkie talkie with me. Will be easier than taking my 3 year old to their room any time I want to ask them a question. It's not that expensive really.
SPacificbound Posted June 23, 2015 #9 Share Posted June 23, 2015 You could call your cellular company. :)
sail7seas Posted June 23, 2015 #10 Share Posted June 23, 2015 Most cabin telephones have voice mail. There are lots of 'hotel phones' all around the ship. Walkie Talkies usually are very poor on the ships..... all that steel interferes.
Amandah1987 Posted June 23, 2015 #11 Share Posted June 23, 2015 You can go on your providers website and it will tell you the cost of international calls and SMS

spleenstomper Posted July 30, 2015 Author #13 Share Posted July 30, 2015 (edited) Well, several of us forgot to put it on airplane mode and so we racked up 100.00 of offshore data charges before ATT turned off data roaming automatically (thank goodness). Put it on airplane mode!!!! Edited July 30, 2015 by spleenstomper
