How much are text messages onboard?

We are just going 5 nights: progreso and cozumel from new orleans.

It varies by your plan, but most are about 50 cents for each text you send. Receiving is usually free or 5 cents.

On our last cruise, when girl was 15, we used pen and paper to keep each other informed. My girl had no interest in carrying around cell phone or any other device. She would let us know if interested in eating with us (she knew what time was our seating) or go to a show with us.

 

And there was no way we would bring walkie talkies on a cruise ship.

Make tentative plans..meet for meals...PHYSICALLY SEE your kids...a walkie talkie or text tells you nothing...except what they want you to hear!

True, true. They are older teens now, so I'm expecting no shenanigans.

 

Last cruise the steward was very surprised to see me in the interior cabin: said he NEVER saw parents look in on their kids. Very unusual. Usually parents just let them run I guess....

I'll probably be texting the people I cruise with, since we are in different rooms, on different decks I'm really not going to carry a Walkie talkie with me. Will be easier than taking my 3 year old to their room any time I want to ask them a question. It's not that expensive really.

Most cabin telephones have voice mail. There are lots of 'hotel phones' all around the ship.

 

Walkie Talkies usually are very poor on the ships..... all that steel interferes.

You can go on your providers website and it will tell you the cost of international calls and SMS

Well, several of us forgot to put it on airplane mode and so we racked up 100.00 of offshore data charges before ATT turned off data roaming automatically (thank goodness).

 

 

Put it on airplane mode!!!!
