on board account

Yes, just go to Guest Services or load them at one of the kiosks after you board the ship.

Let me edit this a bit. I'm not sure if you can use the gift cards that don't have his name on them. I'm sure someone else will chime in, but if not just deposit them into your bank account and take the cash with you. In fact I would probably do that anyway just to avoid the hassle of doing anything on embarkation day.

my question is this: am I able to use those visa/mastercard giftcards to put on my sign and sail account? my hubby gets them instead of cash for part of his bonus from work and we have over 1000 dollars in them right now

I think I've read no but I can't say for sure where. You may be able to use the gift cards to purchase cruise cash or a carnival gift card and that would be a way to use the gift cards for your on board account in a round about way.

Can you pay your cruise off with them instead? Or is that already paid for?

we already paid off our cruise in July. I put that we are using cash for our sas account, thinking we could just add those prepaid cards on like cash, but im not sure thats possible

Only if his name on them.

Probably better to buy gift cards at your local market and use those to fund your account. This way there will be no doubt if they can be used.

If the cards have his name on them, you can use them to purchase Carnival gift cards online and then apply those to your sign and sail. I've done that when I've received the Visa/MC gift cards.

Once on board, take the carnival cards (I usually just do electronic cards and print out the emails) to the kiosks or guest services to load.

Keep an eye on your balance. If you don't think you'll spend it all, go to the casino, transfer your balance to your casino account, play the slots a few times and then cash out.

Keep in mind that Visa/MC gift cards generally can not be redeemed for cash (prepaid cards can; there is a difference between the 2).

I'm confused by these answers. If these are just the Visa/MC gift cards you get in a store, why wouldn't she be able to use them anywhere that Visa/MC is taken? Does Carnival specifically exclude these for some reason?

Could you use them to buy Carnival Gift Cards at your local grocery store (Kroger or Tom Thumb have them here)? That way, you convert them to a medium that you know can be used on board. And, as an added bonus, you get gas points for your purchase at the grocery store.

Many places will not accept cards without your name on them.

They will accept them on board (even without a name on them) those that say they won't, don't know what they are talking about, I just did it 2 weeks ago, $1200 worth.

Having said that, they can be a PITA. I had to go back down to GS 3 times during the cruise to get them reactivated because they would deactivate and my S&S would be overdrawn.

Is Carnival one of them or are people just guessing? I have never had any problem spending those type of gift cards anywhere.

It's been reported on here that they won't accept them.

huh?

Read the fine print on the package that the gift card is enclosed in. Most state that they can not be used outside of the U.S. Also the AX (American Express) gift cards state that they can not be used/approved for shipboard purchases.
