Consecutive days at sea on Celebrity Solstice.

Hi, I am considering a 10 day cruise on Solstice, which includes 5 consecutive days at sea. (Hawaian cruise and repo to Canada). On previous RCL cruises, I enjoyed the days at sea. On more recent HAL cruises, not so much. I have never cruised on X, so any feed back on that topic would be appreciated.

I did a transpacific on the Solstice from Hawaii to Sydney, which had 5 sea days between Maui and Tahiti, 4 from Moorea to Bay of Islands and 2 from Auckland to Sydney. I love sea days, we had a balcony room so I'd often be out there with my book, or in the solarium. If I have a nice place to relax I'm happy. I did find there wasn't a lot of activities I was interested in attending, I like things like trivia and game shows and cooking demos, these were more art appreciation lectures, port lectures, spa tours and dance classes (or extra cost things). So if you like high energy activities you will find them more lacking on the Solstice.

Solstice is a beautiful ship and one of only three in the fleet with the Hot Glass Show. It is complimentary to attend, very interesting, and they were blowing glass every day, several times a day. The artists said they are inspired by their surroundings and were excited to be going to Alaska. The pieces they created were gorgeous. I would fully expect the Hawaii repo would be inspiring for them as well.

We are more familiar with Royal and each one of their ships feels like "coming home" for us. When we embarked on Solstice for the week-long Alaskan cruise, I admit that it took a few days but then we felt comfortable. It is "a step up" from Royal on many fronts, and they have some nice touches (every stateroom has a cabin steward plus an assistant), there was made to order Eggs Benedict in the buffet, and an ice cream bar with toppings in the buffet as well.

We enjoyed X and purchased two next-cruise certificates to use in future. :)

I would be sure to post this on the Celebrity Board.

I have sailed Celebrity with eight days at sea (four at a time on a particular cruise) and thee was lots to do with many enrichment activities offered. The time wen fast and we really enjoyed those sea days.

Like another post we did Hawaii to Sydney. We enjoyed the sea days to recover from some of the hectic port days we had experienced.

You need to be aware that your weather may not be great resulting in the Solarium being very busy. We ensured we had loaded iPads, took cards and chess with us. We really didn't need them, by the time I had seen a couple of cooking demos....Some other cruisers did seem to need more entertainment and a few had arranged their own tournaments including mahjong and a non casino card game.

These sea days are great times to add in some extra dining experiences. Most ships will organise chefs table events if about 10/12 people are interested. I have also heard of people signing up to a Murano cooking experience but I have not done that myself.

Visit your roll call and see if anyone is looking to set up an activity you might be interested in - or suggest one yourself.

We love the Solstice and can't wait to get back on board in March! Have a great cruise.

I'd say the sea days on a Celebrity ship are right in the middle between HAL and RCI. There are more activities than HAL, but not as much as RCI.

Celebrity Solstice is absolutely gorgeous. You'll probably get bored at times during 5 sea days straight but all in all, you'll probably love being on that ship.

Good morning,

If you are considering next April's Solstice sailing from Hawaii to Vancouver, I will be there! I have sailed Equinox twice, both times with multiple sea days; however, this upcoming cruise with the five sea days at the end is one I am really looking forward to. We booked sunset verandas so we could sit on the balcony and enjoy the view. I am hoping for nothing more than rest and relaxation.

Hope to meet you on board.

Susan

Thank you very much for your feed-back. It is really appreciated. It will definitely help us to make a more fact based decision. Thank you also lola2013, for the kind words, unfortunately, the cruise that we are considering is the May 7, 2017 cruise from Hawai to Vancouver, so we will be missing you by one year.
