Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted October 9, 2015 #2 Share Posted October 9, 2015 Might be a bit earlier than that - 8:30 to 9pm. This site allows you to calculate it. http://ports.com/sea-route/port-of-newcastle,australia/sydney-harbour-port-jackson,australia/

Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted October 9, 2015 #4 Share Posted October 9, 2015 Are there any good bars overlooking Newcastle Heads? That way she could party while she's waiting for you to sail by. :D

GUT2407 Posted October 9, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted October 9, 2015 (edited) She wouldn't be that mean surely ;) Actually she's a darn good kid but always say she's planning a drug fueled orgy while we're away. Last person on earth who'd do such a thing. BTW did you also post about this on a FB site? I didn't but I think SHE did using my a/c. And that JJ is this JJ, I had wondered. And I'm sure some of the GG posts that I've seen were yours based on the style of posting. BTW Diamond is doing a run from Sydney to New Caledonia on Monday, departing at the same time as your cruise, so you could go and check it out. And if we went Monday THEY would need to know what tme Monday night to come and hope to spot the ship. Of course at any of the times the chances of her seeing us are slim. (Unlike moi). Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted October 9, 2015 #10 Share Posted October 9, 2015 And if we went Monday THEY would need to know what tme Monday night to come and hope to spot the ship. I meant you could go to Newcastle Heads on Monday to get an idea as to what time Diamond goes past. :D Assuming your cruise would go past at a similar time, of course. :p

I've actually posted on the 12th's Rollcall asking for a heads up if anyone notices. Unfortunately I'm out of town Monday night.

Unfortunately I'm out of town Monday night. It was fully booked anyway. :( Good idea about asking on the rollcall though, although it might be hard working out exactly where the ship is if it's dark. Unless there is a very noticeable landmark, there would just be a mass of lights stringing up from the Central Coast.

Bit hard to predict - unless you've got a tight itinerary so will be travelling at top speed.

Thats the key. There are usually quite a few ships at anchor off Newcastle so any cruise ships would head out to sea to keep a fair distance from them...I would presume. By The Bay Posted October 9, 2015 #15 Share Posted October 9, 2015 A good way to know were you are is by observing the lighthouses. The first you pass is Norah Head and then Nobbys Head at the entrance to Newcastle. Each light has a distinctive flash sequence, see http://www.lighthouses.org.au/lights/NSW/Index%20NSW.asp
Russell21 Posted October 9, 2015 #16 Share Posted October 9, 2015 Actually the first one you pass is Barrenjoey Lighthouse up near Palm Beach.

Rare MicCanberra Posted October 12, 2015 #20 Share Posted October 12, 2015 Hey GUT, It is approximately 65 nautical miles, so should only take around four or five hours, weather permitting. Your daughter may see the ship but you probably won't see her as they go off shore a fair way to get the shops and Casino open.:D
