casofilia Posted January 7, 2016 #26 Share Posted January 7, 2016 We had the same problem with our booking for the last cruise; it was no problem getting on the boat. I did carry a 1c piece just in case!! I would check with NCL and get the OK in writing. Mike

RobTheGob Posted January 10, 2016 #29 Share Posted January 10, 2016 The one interesting thing I noticed - for each OBC purchase I made, several days later a $0.01 refund was issued to my CC! NCL's system is messed up...

NCL's system is messed up... I think the problem is that NCL's system rounds up all figures rather than rounds down or the other way!! I think it was one way and then changed to the other!! I have been both short and had refunds. Mike
trish4bruce Posted January 13, 2016 #31 Share Posted January 13, 2016 My friend and I each purchased 1000 OBC at Canadian rate of 11% When I look at our vacation summary on MY NCL she was charged $1111.11 and I was charged $1111.12. Why is there a difference? I am not worried about a penny - I just don't want any issues getting our OBS when we board.

trish4bruce Posted January 14, 2016 #38 Share Posted January 14, 2016 (edited) Yes, many cruisers have received a call to tell them that the maximum OBC per cabin was 1000$.... We have not received this call and cruise in 30 days. How can you tell if you are on the same account? All these inconsistent rules are ridiculous. This is my first time sailing with NCL and I have to say I am not all that eager to cruise with them again. I understand changing a policy but it should be done in a transparent and consistent way. I am nervous though about getting that phone call. this is also our first time with ncl and there has been numerous changes since we booked 11 mos ago. not that eager to cruise with them again either.if they did change the rules about the max amount of obc, then let the guests know ahead of time instead of calling them a few days before the cruise. Freckles_51 Posted January 14, 2016 #40 Share Posted January 14, 2016 Just curious....I only discovered last year that NCL has these great rates for Canadians.....do other cruise lines have reduced exchange rates for Canadians for cruise fares, and allow the pre-purchase of OBC, shore excursions and prepaid service charges at the same reduced rate? We've only done dcl, but no, they don't have reduced rates for cdns nor do they allow the prepurchase of obc. sometimes they do have specials for cdn. We actually started cruising with them when they had the "20% off for canadians rate".

Ontario cruise duo Posted January 14, 2016 #43 Share Posted January 14, 2016 When I called customer service they told me that there is no limit to obc... Well that seems truly false, based on others' recent postings. I would try calling again and you will probably get a different answer (but maybe not). If not then buy as much OBC as you can, but as others have posted, don't be surprised if shortly before you sail, you get a call, just like the others have mentioned in this thread. Definitely frustrating to say the least. Glad my cruise is over and that I could cash out my OBC as we had certainly purchased more than $1,000.00 for our balcony cabin that we sailed in, and that was just in December:D! Frenchsnowhite Posted January 18, 2016 #45 Share Posted January 18, 2016 Just spoke with my NCL rep and she told me that there were NO limit of OBC I could buy!!!! (wish my husband would say the same :p) And then I told her about the penny on the account, and she told me she would ask but not to worry!!! ;)
cjcruises Posted January 18, 2016 #46 Share Posted January 18, 2016 I called NCL yesterday and asked about a $1000 limit on pre-purchased OBC. The rep on the other end said she'd been asked this a lot lately by Canadians and that last she'd been told, there was no limit. She then checked with a supervisor, who advised her that there is no limit, but any amount over $3000 needs approval from the powers-that-be as money laundering has become a concern. I plan to buy OBC within the next few days.

If so I wonder if it only allows $1000.00 in one transaction. I would think that NCL wants people to spend money onboard. So the more people purchase the more they will spend. Arlene I presume that the "Regal" you talk about is from another cruise line! Each cruise line will have its own rules. Did you buy it online? Cherie I have bought more than that online in both my wife's name and also my own, in the same cabin. Also we are cruising for 34 days which may well make a difference. Are you on a short cruise? Mike We are doing a 14 day cruise. In the past we have purchased more than $1000.00. It will be interesting to see if things have changed. Funny how people can get so many different answers for the same question. Cherie
