likestorelax Posted February 6, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2016 What is the earliest flight time anyone has had leaving out of Miami. We are docking on a Saturday morning at 0700 and plan to do walk off. How early of a flight could we possibly make?
Solon Posted February 6, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 6, 2016 In my experience, make it as late as possible. Have seen people miss their flights due to slow customs at the port and slow check in at the airport. Taxi to the airport is not usually a problem. If you arrive at 7am, I wouldn't consider anything before midday, if your flight is domestic. Better to be safe than sorry.
likestorelax Posted February 6, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted February 6, 2016 thanks. that was what I thought too. Miami is big, crowded and can take a long time to navigate through.
neverbeenhere Posted February 6, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 6, 2016 10am is the absolute earliest time to try. AND you better have a backup plan, if you try for it.
crazycatlady82 Posted February 7, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 7, 2016 We've been at the Miami airport by 9:30 before....and sat until our 3:30 flight. I would say try to book your flight around noon, and you'll be ok.

I made a 955 after disembarking NCL Escape - took one hour from 730 to 830 to disembark and was at airport at 9. I checked luggage. I have TSA precheck. It was a bit stressful but was ok. sayaguru Posted February 7, 2016 #7 Share Posted February 7, 2016 We were told not to book before noon. We were due to dock at 7am. At 6.45 they announced we could get off so we quickly finished our breakfast and walked off. We grabbed a taxi out front and were at the airport at 8.15. Luckily the airline let us get an earlier flight. :D If you get off quickly before the crowds it's very quick. I think if we waited half an hour it would be congested. cb at sea Posted February 7, 2016 #8 Share Posted February 7, 2016 If you're at the Miami port, and have a 10:45 flight out of Miami, you'll be fine. Nothing earlier. No later than 1pm, or you'll just be sitting in the airport, waiting and waiting....
Rare Keith1010 Posted February 7, 2016 #9 Share Posted February 7, 2016 If you do not like stress i would book a flight at around Noon. You just never know at not only Miami but at all USA ports might go wrong from a work slowdown/stoppage by the local union or a delay in immigration or you could be the unlucky one who customs stops to go through their luggage. mcomd508 Posted February 7, 2016 #10 Share Posted February 7, 2016 Drive from port to airport is about 15 min or less. Problems may arise depending on how fast immigration is working. If you are a US citizen/resident, it's pretty fast. I believe that if you do early walk-off, anything after 10 am is fine. However, if you don't want to worry about it, just book your flight around noon as others have previously suggested.
florisdekort Posted February 7, 2016 #11 Share Posted February 7, 2016 10:30 for Miami, 9:30 for Fort Lauderdale. That has always worked well for me.
az_tchr Posted February 7, 2016 #12 Share Posted February 7, 2016 The questions are simple: Is Customs and Immigration set up on time with enough agents? Are you carrying off your luggage and first in line? Is there an issue with traffic getting to the airport? Is everything working fine for checking in your luggage? Are you TSA pre approved to be able to go into a shorter security line? Is security working fast that day? Are you a person that handles stress well? Do you have a plan "B" if there are issues with any of the above to fly later?
likestorelax Posted February 12, 2016 Author #13 Share Posted February 12, 2016 Thanks for all the feedback. We are not going to chance too early of a flight. Not worth the stress or the $$$ it would take to rebook a missed flight.
